Final Fantasy VII is rated by ESRB photo

Wait for it. Wait for it. There! Did you hear it? It was the collective squeal of thousands of Final Fantasy fanboys. The ESRB has let slip a little information that Sony was probably hoping to drop on us at their E3 conference. The listing shows Final Fantasy VII for the PS3 and the PSP, so it looks like FFVII on the go is Go. Hell, they might even be planning to drop the game on Tuesday, the day of their press conference, which would be a nice little surprise.

Obviously, rumors have been flying for a while that Square Enix would be re-releasing FFVII in one format or another. The game is the RPG that made Final Fantasy the name it is today and Square Enix has whored it out to no end. Why it took this long to get it out for download is beyond me. There's no word if anything is going to be revamped graphically or gameplay-wise, but we do know that it will be rated Teen for comic mischief, mild fantasy violence and mild language. If you've popped the game in recently, you're probably hoping they've done a bit of a graphical overhaul, as Cloud's Popeye-like arms are pretty hilarious in this day and age.

Christ. Just because you're a FF fan, it doesn't mean you have to be a fanboy. Seriously, that phrase is so tired.

Looks like Sony is starting to get their big stuff out there. RE, MGS, FF7, all of the Crash & Spyro games. They're still a long ways away from having a great library though.

I'll probably download this when it comes out just because I haven't played it in forever. Sorry about being a spelling nazi, but you spelled "anything" wrong.

Hmm. I've been meaning to give this another try, since I feel like I'm missing out on an important slice of gaming history, not having played through the Final Fantasy games, VII in particular.

I wish it did, but I doubt it will have a visual overhaul.

You typo'd 'Fantasy' in the article's title, and 'anything' in the second paragraph. Sorry, grammar nazi, I assume you must be excited about the news, hehe

question though... if they release PSONE classics on the PSN that are playable on either system... then wouldnt it have to have an ESRB rating for both?

so, in theory, this could just be the release of ff7 from ps1 on the psn/psp correct?

i dont want it to be, but im trying not to get too excited.

This game needs a Resident Evil like makeover. As far as I'm concerned, that could just throw new graphics on the same everything else and I'd be over the moon with it. I never had any issues with the gameplay. But even if it doesn't get a visual overhaul, I'll be one of the first to snap it up.

Unless this is a graphical update coming out for the PS3, I don't particularly care. If I want to play the original FFVII, I'll play my PSX copy. Which will still work on my PS3.

Oh god, please let this be a remake and not some lame re-release.

Square if you're going to whore it to us (which we want you to) then do it the right way, remake the damn game, put SOME effort into this at least.

There is no reason to expect that the game will be touched up. It was already released in Japan a few weeks ago as is, and I guarantee that is how it will show up here.

I'll believe it when I see it, lots of games get rated by ESRB that don't come out. And I don't have a problem playing my original copy.

Also their arms always made me laugh.:)

Even this, a original copy, will sell like mad.

I'm awating MGS with baited breath, my love for FF started with 9, then 8, so this does not interest me that much.
Kamikaze Slowey's Avatar
Kamikaze Slowey at 05/31/2009 21:18
Same here Mushman. I had the choice between FF8 and FF7 and i went with 8 because it was newer. If this does come with a graphics update, Ill dust off my PSP for it. Im still waiting for Dissidia (spelling?) and i loved FF7: Crisis Core so FF7 will be a great way to get some more fun out of that thing.

kefkaesque's Avatar
kefkaesque at 05/31/2009 21:29
Well and unchanged version of a game that I already have and which has graphics that have aged badly coming out isn't going to get me to buy a PS3. If Sony wants people like me who aren't overly interested in buying a PS3 to want to get one, then just remake the damn game already.

Square has remade 1-4, why the hell not the most popular one in the series (my favorite 6 would also be nice but Square seems to despise 6 for some reason).

I'd really enjoy seeing FFVII re-done with a graphical style similar to Crisis Core. It'd be a natural fit in my estimation.

As it stands, I still replay FFVII once every few years. Most recently on PSP via not emulating it. So really as cool as this is, a graphical over-haul would be ideal.

Sigh...every blog in existence has the worst headlines for this piece of news. I guarantee that every person who read this headline thought that this was finally news of the rumored PS3 remake, and was then confused by the actual news as to why it was coming out of the PSP as well. I'm sure some people didn't bother to read the comments and realize that it's the original game and definitely not a remake.

Eh, whatever. The game is just okay anyway, not "bad," but certainly far from "good."
