You know if they just came straight out and said they won't make it would be one thing but to say that it would take 10x longer to remake VII than it did to make XIII from the ground up is an obvious lie. They already have the story, combat and world layout already done all they need is the graphics, I don't think people care if it's on the FFXII engine if they would just either do it or stop lying to their fans about it. Lord knows they keep bringing this issue up.

I just don't understand why they keep bringing it up. It seems really fishy and it just makes me expect some sort of announcement. If they really weren't doing anything it would get to a point where they would just ignore people who are asking about it. I'm gonna dial it in now: Final Fantasy 7 HD in 2012.
1) Remake III (VI, whatever) if you remake any of them

This is a joke. From what we've seen from guys like Bioware, Square-Enix is just being a wimp. Or is it simply because they're a Japanese developer who doesn't know how to be efficient anymore *OH SNAP*
I gave up hope of this happening a LOOOOOOONG time ago. Too bad though. After release the BS known as FFXIII, Square owes it to the fans to give'em something that doesn't stink.
I want them to remake it, but if they did, every time they released something new, like a remade monster model, I could see everybody saying "SO?!"
They're better off just making an Advent Children Blu-ray of the original storyline and letting the fans that want to, accept that as canon. Because that's pretty much what they're going to do anyway, interpersed with 15 minutes of gameplay between cutscenes that offer no real exploration, especially if they're wanting to base a remake off of FFXIII's model.
I'm done with remakes. Let's make a good RPG that doesn't add ridiculous hours of gameplay to an otherwise 40 hour game by doing nothing but fighting giant turtles.

I'll be happy with FFVII Remake with no voice over. I still enjoyed text based jrpgs, voice is fine during cutscenes.
This is still kinda fucked up. They would make a killing, so does this mean that we can't look forward to Final Fantasy games, and any games for that matter, of FF7's quality, depth, and scope?

but really one of the reasons XIII took so long was because they were creating the engine for the game, getting it to look good. Now at least the square's wonderful engine is done, and it's not like they'd have to spend time being as creative (creating something new) they'd basically copy VII (except for a few surprises), not to say it wouldn't take a chunk of time, but not as long as 10 times.

This is the biggest BS ever. Squeenix is just teasing everyone. They're building hype by saying how long it would take, enraging fans. Squeenix has remade and repackaged so many titles it is absolutely ridiculous. If they dare to deny fans something that they explicitly ask for, they are dumbasses. A final fantasy 7 remake would be the best thing ever considering the weakest point of the original was probably the graphics.

Well technically the only ones that they remake over and over are Final Fantasy I and II. I'm surprised they remade III and IV, but at least III made business sense, as it wasn't brought over to the states until they did that.

Why would a remake have to be in the super-detailed realistic style of FF13 or other modern games? A cell shaded or crisp cartoon style like in Dragon Quest 8 would work just as well and I would welcome a respite from so-called HD graphics.
Also, why bother with voice actors? At this point everyone has their own idea what the FF7 characters sound like. With design choices like these, a remake would be much more doable.

You can get the original off PSN for cheap. Why do so many people stress a remake? Wouldn't you rather see Square-Enix try and be creative with a new game? I think a lot of people just live in the past. I have fond memories playing VII as a kid, but you gotta grow up and let go.
I still own my original PS1 copy of this game, and really, I don't see what all the fuss is about. Sure, it'd be shinier, but the original version is still head and shoulders better than a lot of games in general that come out these days...
