Emulation =/= stealing.
...downloading a ROM, on the other hand...
And, as I implied earlier, if you buy this version, you're basically buying an emulator program for one game anyways.
Oh, I completely agree with you. But read his comment -- He was talking about the PC release. You can't "emulate" a PC game, you can only either have an original copy or pirate it.
And as far as emulating this one particular game goes, it'll be a lot like how GOG does it. All those game are pretty much emulated, but you're legitimately buying them.
See, if this ended up on GOG, I'd buy it in an instant. I don't see that happening, and if this ends up being Steam then screw it, I'll just go online and find a copy of the original PC one. I've already gotten that to work on my PC with widescreen and updated graphics.
This is something I've blogged about, so I'm not going to steal the comments, so I'll just give you kind of a dirty and quick version.
Steam, while it's not as bad as a constant online connection, is still as restrictive as any other DRM. Want to install a game? Get online. Want to back a game up? Get online. No one other than you can play a game you buy, unless you give out your account credentials or use offline mode, which is shoddy at best. Hell, if a game isn't fully updated, you can't even START it through Steam.
I think Steam as a PLATFORM is great, i.e., the customer service, the storefront, the game selection, etc. But Steam is two halves of a whole, and the DRM side of it is no better than any other DRM scheme. No one can say that places like GOG don't make money, either, so there's really no excuse to not have every game on both services. It's not like Steam stops piracy or anything.
If you want to read my original rant, here it is. I don't hate Steam, I just hate DRM, and that's what Steam is, except for games like Super Meat Boy, which has all the Steamworks benefits, but is actually COMPLETELY DRM-free. I'd buy every game EVER on Steam if they were all like that.
"I have a feeling this will be like Ocarina of Time. Not as good as everyone thinks it is."
gamers these days...
it would be so, so easy to give this game a new coat of paint. i don't understand why square doesn't just do a proper remaster. updated 3D models and effects, improve the quality of some of the artwork, clean up the english translation and if they really want to push the boat out, re-record the soundtrack with an orchestra.
i'd pay good money for that. i'll pay significantly less for what it seems like they are planning to deliver. unless they also plan to do some of the above i'm not sure why they are bothering with this, but i shan't complain too much either way.
Having "Achievements" when it's not tied to an existing service is completely pointless. The only use for Achievements is to show off.
Also I don't want my savegames on Squeenix's proprietary "cloud" that will probably be shut down in a year.
What? Are you a non English speaker requesting improved English localization?
Disregarding context as I haven't played the game in years, those were both entirely acceptable sentences. Wtf, are you looking for dickensian style english or something?
I don't know about his second quote, but the "attack while the tail is up" quote is wrong in context. It actually punishes you if you follow that advice.
Have they ever even fixed the music? The silly tooting synth-score was ass.
People are bitching because it's not built from the ground up, which I think is a stupid reason to bitch. I, for one, am excited about this, since the original PC version is crazy-hard to get now.

You don't have to have Steam to have Achievements. The PC retail versions of Mass Effect 1 and 2 both had Achievements.
Square-Enix (well Squaresoft really) has a bad history of awful emulation so I would hope that they aren't going down that road again.
But, given the 'Square-Enix Store' nonsense coupled with the achievements we could be looking at some type of GUI/Wrapper/Launcher system which could account for the jump in specs.
Yeah, just fucking use Steam you dipshits.
But...
If it's a barebones port that doesn't mess with the game, I suppose it's not a bad thing to let more people play it. Those extra features don't mean anything to me, and the idea of a 'character booster' is ridiculous.
I suppose Cloud needs his support, especially when he's cross dressing.
@Mr Jonson
What the hell. That made me sad.
That sounds horrible compared to the Playstation OST...
They included one that had a ton of custom instruments. Without it, the music sounded really bad.
Heres hoping they learned from that mistake. I doubt it.
