I was going to tip this in, but there we go. It was originally released in 1998. This is some sort of inexplicable PC re-release, possibly to test the waters for future ones that actually take advantage of the hardware.

those system requirements seem to be more about the pc being able to handle windows rather than a game the ps1 ran just fine

I always loved the part where you get the Airship and can go wherever you want, but with the Character Booster, now I don't have to wait! I'm gonna fly Cloud right out of Midgar.

I wish it would also include a reworked Engish localization. No more "attack while its tail is up!" or "that's how I fooled them".

I doubt that this will have anything updated to justify the higher requirements. What you're seeing is basically the requirements for Windows Vista/7 as opposed to Windows 95.
Also, for mods, there were a few already made previously. Should be interesting to see if those are compatible or will be updated to work with the new release. Mainly what I'm hoping to see out of this is a more stable product, FF7 PC originally was notoriously buggy/crashy.
It would also be super cool if this entices more JRPG publishers to consider PC a viable market.

@Jaksser: Yeah, but at least it's not as bad as some of the stuff Nintendo are doing. In the most recent Mario game (or is it the next? They all blend into one recently) if you keep failing a level, you're given a golden tanooki suit that makes you invincible, moves obstacles out of the way for you and protects you from every single way of dying apart from your own clumsiness. But that's not even it!
If you somehow still can't do it after that, they give you a special P! thing that teleports you right to the end of the level. Looks like Hepler got her way and even Nintendo are putting in ways to skip the gameplay segments of games.

Half of the comments here are people stating that it was once on PC, as if this wasn't common knowledge already. Duplicate comments from multiple people make Destructoid a dull robot.

Still have my FFVII PC discs. Too bad Eidos totally left supporting it to the community, even when it was released.

If it was 5 bucks on Steam, I'd get it to give it another playthrough. Especially if the loading times were short and smooth.
Also, Square, if you want to release the game on Steam and want GUARANTEED sales, offer a free item for TF2. Either the buster sword for the demoman, or Cloud Strife's hair to put on any class.

Though I do wish it was a remade version of the PC one. It will most likely be an emulated port of some kind. My favorite feature of the PC version was the flexible MIDI soundtrack and the original S-YXG70 playback of the XG MIDI. I found it to be a lot more enjoyable to listen to than the PlayStation Version soundtrack.
Why do those stats seem unnecessarily high? I swear I remember the original PC version needed only like 366MHZ and like 128MB RAM for MAX graphics. Is this a sign that they're upgrading the graphics somehow? AT LEAST do the game in widescreen.
IT'S ALREADY ON PC. jesus christ, it came out on the pc ages ago,if you didn't get it, you can emulate it.
