It's going to be another few major game events of smelling the vapor from this game before we see anything solid. We know for sure it's not going to be at next month's TGS, though.
Tetsuya Nomura talked to Dengeki PlayStation magazine in Japan and told them that the game will not be shown or playable at the September 15-18 event, but that he does already have the first showing planned for later. When? He doesn't say.
I bet they're holding it back to give the other Square Enix Final Fantasy big dogs, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Type-0, the spotlight at TGS. 2012 is when we'll get the real meat on Versus XIII, I bet.

Honestly, I feel like 9 was the last one with any soul. Everything after that felt increasingly like design by committee, with an increasing focus on "how pretty can we make everything".
I'm more than happy playing FFVI over and over, and that game is over 17 years old!
I miss squaresoft...
Also I'm very surprised that 13-2 is coming this January very quick turn around there. I still need to beat 13.

This is what happens when you announce a game in 2006 and don't start working on it until 2009.
I have little doubt it will be great when it is released, but don't count your chickens (annouce multiple games) before they're hatched (before the games' graphics engine is completed).
Next time, keep your mouth shut until you're ready with tangibles.

All of which were announced *after* FFvXIII.
If you have a scar on your right side that looks conspicuously like the scar on my left side, then you may be onto something. In which case, I guess we should figure out which one is the evil twin sooner than later. I think being the evil one gives you a tax write off...
Same thing happened with Agito, remember? But then when development was closed to be finished, new trailers came out, same with a bunch of info and a new name - it completely blindsided people.
I expect the same to happen with Versus. Just let them focus on XIII-2 and Type-0 for now. Type-0 shouldn't be overshadowed.

can't believe it's another year without Versus though it's understandable but still announcing the game way too early.

They're making money but I imagine by they would have loved to have moved onto a Kingdom Hearts III by now and not have FFvXIII coming out at what looks like the end of this current console generation.
Anyway, I suppose this is gonna be for ps4 or something...
Versus 13 was announced in early 2006 alongside FF13 and Type-0 and was being made by Nomura and his team.
FF13 was released in 2009 and got a sequel that will be released in 2011.
Type-0 will be released this year.
now let's see what games Nomura's team started making after they've announced Versus 13:
The 3rd Birthday,
Kingdom Hearts coded and its remake Kingdom Hearts Re:coded,
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days,
Dissidia Final Fantasy and its sequel Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy,
all of those titles - already released.
let's also add Final Fantasy XIII-2(2011 release in japan) and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance(early 2012 release in japan)
soon they will have to go with multiplatform release for this game or it will be released on next generation platforms.

I dont think the game will get cancelled but I can see them shitcanning Nomura over this, you could tell something was wrong with this project when during his press events interviews he spent more time talking about characters clothes than actual gameplay.
I think even the most diehard square enix fan is getting kind of tired of his art direction in about everything they do so I would welcome them giving him the boot and giving project lead to someone who can finish games within less than a 2 year cycle.
