I remember when Final Fantasy games felt like hand crafted works of love. These days they're developing so many Final Fantasy games at once that they have to keep some from stepping on the toes of others.
Honestly, I feel like 9 was the last one with any soul. Everything after that felt increasingly like design by committee, with an increasing focus on "how pretty can we make everything".

I'm over this game. They've dragged their feet for so long on this one, while announcing more and more FF titles.

This is what happens when you announce a game in 2006 and don't start working on it until 2009.
I have little doubt it will be great when it is released, but don't count your chickens (annouce multiple games) before they're hatched (before the games' graphics engine is completed).
Next time, keep your mouth shut until you're ready with tangibles.

That may also go without saying because they have more soon to come big releases (FF Type-0, FF XIII-2, KH3D) to focus on. They could definitely hamstring themselves by putting more tangible coverage of VsXIII too soon. COMGNET has VsXIII as one of the higher ranked games in terms of pre-orders in Japan.
This is getting ridamndiculous! What in the name of sweet holy monkey hell is holding this game up? FF15 will probably hit the shelves before this.
Final fantasy type-0 really looks kick ass and I hope it comes here. I was most looking forward to versus 13, I just dig the dark vibe and the characters look like they might be interesting. I'm not writing it off just yet, I would love to hear more about it though. :( fuck square with a whale dick. :@

Same thing happened with Agito, remember? But then when development was closed to be finished, new trailers came out, same with a bunch of info and a new name - it completely blindsided people.
I expect the same to happen with Versus. Just let them focus on XIII-2 and Type-0 for now. Type-0 shouldn't be overshadowed.

Call me a blind fanboy if you will, but I really hope the reason this game is taking so long is because they're making it perfect. I honestly hope they're capable of doing that.

I dont know, smells like vaporware and like Tetsuya Nomura might get canned because of project over runs. The whole nova fabula crystallis thing has kind of been a nightmare for Square, FFXIII was supposed to be a last gen game after all.
They're making money but I imagine by they would have loved to have moved onto a Kingdom Hearts III by now and not have FFvXIII coming out at what looks like the end of this current console generation.

There are about a bazillion games coming out the rest of this year and in 2012. Chill out, play some of those, and wait for the damn game to be done.

Even so, I am pretty damn excited for news on it at SOME time hopefully before I die. My real concern at TGS will be ANYTHING substantial on Dragon Quest X!!!!
I had been looking forward to Versus being what saved Squenix's ass, but now I can see this game being cancelled before the end of the year, anybody wanna take bets?

I dont think the game will get cancelled but I can see them shitcanning Nomura over this, you could tell something was wrong with this project when during his press events interviews he spent more time talking about characters clothes than actual gameplay.
I think even the most diehard square enix fan is getting kind of tired of his art direction in about everything they do so I would welcome them giving him the boot and giving project lead to someone who can finish games within less than a 2 year cycle.
