A semi brand spankin' new Final Fantasy Versus XIII popped up yesterday on YT which was reportedly shown at E3 earlier this year. Despite being there, Square didn't allow cameras at their booth so this will be the first time a lot of people see it. News to me, too -- have a look, it's perty.

Before you orgasm, note that it is a completely pre-rendered sequence of what Vidal Sasoon can do for an evil man.  The game will look good, but not THAT good. Nevertheless, we can expect that Square will fatten up that Blu-Ray disc with a ton sequences like this in full HD.  Just check out the IGN screenshots below to fully appreciate what YouTube can't reproduce. So! If you're looking for a reason to justify Blu-Ray and your PS3 purchase, bookmark this page for the haters.

One can't help but compare it to the recently released Halo 3 trailer, who's production values are just as amazing but also doesn't show actual gameplay (sigh).  Which trailer would say was better, FFXIII's trailer or Starship Troopers? No bias there whatsoever.

I'm not going to lie, if there's one fanboyism I'll admit to, it's that I'm a Final Fantasy fanboy, so my vote goes to Final Fantasy XIII Versus.

Though I'll admit Halo 3 does still look cool.

final fantasy is a much better trailer than the halo 3 trailer, though i'll admit i loved the shield in the halo 3 trailer... this one has much higher production values, and actually feels like a trailer, not just a scene taken from the game... either way, i'm sure both will be great games, though final fantasy xiii, being a final fantasy, will be much much better! especially a final fantasy who's gameplay is produced by the kingdom hearts team and graphics is produced by the advent children team.

Hmm which is better....

NEITHER of them are in-game footage or even CGI from in-game shots...just random footage they put together.

But even though I hate to admit it...Halo's got me more into it than this one. Of course I didn't bother to read the text in the beginning of it, it does have a more epic cinematic appeal.

Ive played every final fantasy (except crisis core, FF3 for DS) so its not like im NOT intrested, I cant fuckin wait. But the Halo 3 trailer had more to it that made me want to play NOW! FF13 was just.. uh.. he's using spells to not get shot at, nothing new there, but I still like FF, KH, and so on and so forth.. but this is the 3rd halo. Thats the 13th (actually more like 16th) FF. I remember when the first one came out on NES...

Guess you have to play Halo to be impressed by that trailer that sci-fi look in games never really appealed to me. My vote goes to that chocobo trailer for having in-game footage. And yeah some of those Paul Verhoeven movies (Starship Trooper, Robocop, Total Recall and a few dutch ones) are damn awesome.

I wish Vidal Sasoon did that to my hair.
Overall I prefered the Halo3 ad. Something about it left me wanting more, even though I thought Halo2 was a pretty mediocre game. This one was a bit too long and boring. I couldn't be bothered to read the text.

Not bad, but after watching them both back to back, I'd give it to Halo 3. I've seen the Halo ad probably five times now, and it's so insanely badass that it stil gives me chills (like every Halo video all the way back to the MacWorld one).

FFFanboy here. Yeah, I enjoyed that a lot. Screw Halo. If I want to play an FPS I'll play it on the computer.

Yeah right, this Final Fantasy trailer made me sleepy. Starship Troopers / Halo for the win.

Halo 3, has the epic feel to me. You can almost feel how tired the Master Chief is by the way he reaches for the sky.

I am ready to finish the fight.

Hey I just read on Neogaf that the swords in that shot are allegedly the Ultima Weapons! Can anyone identify them? The Rune Axe seems to be on the left, I assume Excalibur is on the top left. That's all I got.

After how much i didnt like ff12 and ive been playing since 3 on the snes. This game doesnt impress me i really dont care if it has insane graphics. And plus there putting out 2 final ff13's for the ps3 at like the same time. Just looks like square-enix is pushing games out. Ill wait to see actually game play footage until i consider this. Halo trailer was alot more intense and badass so ima give my vote to that.

Seriously I think they've cranked out six final fantasy games to the shelves in the last year. My wallet and free time has a huge problem with this, but I'm not complaining too much :)

I have to go w/ the Final Fantasy XIII trailer here, boys and girls. It had more of an epic feel to it, like something big big big was going to happen. Looks like when I finally get my PS3 (in about 5 years or so) there will be some games I'll have to get as well.

That's not to say that the Halo III trailer was bad. Quite the contrary. I just find that the Final Fantasy XIII trailer wins this round.

This trailer really just gives you a lot more to look forward to, the Halo 3 trailer not so much.
Square is just better at making trailers.

FF13 Trailer was so gay... AND retarded.. thanx for showing us, uh, NOTHING! What a fuckin yawn. (is now bringing the heat, because of all the halo bashing.) Seriously, who the hell says "if I want to play a FPS, I'll play it on the computer." First.. WHAT?!!? and second, Halo is on the PC, but ... WHAT??!!

*Sigh* I hope the Final-Fantasy-playing-box falls into my lap sometime before ffxiii.

Bungie's strength has never been CG (to their credit). They focus on physics, AI, gameplay. Square is the undisputed master of CG. The Halo trailer doesn't come close.

"I will buy a ps3 the day this game comes out and not a moment before. "

I may buy my PS3 before if FFXIII or Kingdom Hearts III come out before it... otherwise, yeah, probably the sae, unless Ratchet and Clank PS3 is totally amazing
