Final Fantasy Tactics rated by the ESRB, heading to PS3 photo

Yesterday it was Capcom with Street Fighter 3 Alpha, and now that other master of the re-release, Square Enix, has been outed as bringing Final Fantasy Tactics to the PSN. As always, this leak comes courtesy of the ESRB, with a new rating listing the game for a PS3 release. That could only mean that the PSOne Classics store is being graced with yet more nostalgic delight.

As much as I poke fun as Capcom and Squeenix, I must clarify that I do so in jest. The PSOne Classics section is my favorite part of the PlayStation Store, and more cheap downloadable bits of retro are fine by me. I'm one of the few people who have so far failed to fall in love with Tactics, but its presence on the Western storefront is more than welcome.

It looks like Sony is  finally getting its act together and producing a PSOne Classics section in Europe and North America that rivals that of Japan. The Western store has been threadbare for far too long, and it's wonderful to see so many great PSOne games headed our way. Now I shall continue to stomp my feet and demand the Oddworld games.

[Thanks, Scary Womanizing Pig Mask]

I want Ehrgeiz on the PSOne store-- and I realize that I'm the only one.

greatest game ever aside....I still own the original so this isn't for me but hopefully this will get more fans of the game to enjoy it.

This is all leading up to the announcement of Capcom Vs. Square Enix, an epic 2D fighter that will be realesed 27 times over the next 3 to 5 years.

Also, mrplow8 wins.

Although I have the original and the PSP version already this is good news for the ones that haven't played this excellent game yet.

Tactics=best FF game, if you are counting outside of the true series.

Honestly, it's story/lore fills an in-game bible, and the combat is the most involved in the series. Play it...now.

@GamingGoddess
Nope! I lost my copy of Ehrgeiz! I wants another!

@Jim
Oddworld is another PSX great! PS1+PS2=greatest library ever.

Ok, does this mean this rerelease is a direct port of the original PS1 version, with spoony bard mistranslations and all? I'm sorry to say that if so, no deal. I loved FFTactics, but I'd rather that they port War of the Lions (aka the PSP remake), since that one was, y'know, not broken.

Really, I'd pay money again if they could port War of the Lions to PSN, because the slowdown makes it nigh-unplayable for me. Having it on a home console would greatly help along my efforts to finish the damn thing.

This game was pretty tough. I dont think I've ever gotten past the 5th or 6th mission lol. But still, the part I played I enjoyed.

As a side note, I would love to see Square put any of the Front Mission games on the PS store.

@ unangbangkay
I assume by "spoony bard" you mean FFIV, but are these the mistranslations from the PSX version of Tactics you are speaking of (scroll down towards the bottom)? It's not so bad that it doesn't warrant a purchase, right? :D

You know what'd be awesome? Getting some Shmup love for a change. Do Donpachi, Gradius Gaiden, Parodius (ANY OF THEM), Raiden DX, etc. It's fucking pathetic that Nintendo is the one to release games that were Japan exclusive before Sony on their digital game download thingy, since the PSThree is region free and the Wii isn't.

You already screwed the Shmup fans the first time around, show us some damn love you cock sucking fuckwits. Thanks. Love you tons.

Well, I kind of agree with Unangbangkay. The PSP version was a bit smoother than the original. But still, I could care less which one.

@magnalon

Ah, yes, spoony bard is an FFIV joke, but it was also used as an insult in FFT, or at least War of the Lions.

Perhaps a better example would be Professor Daravon?

O-M-G!!! I think I like Tactics more than any other FF game because of the great attention to detail in the game. Plus I love the class system, and the wealth of religious allusions in the very well written story and game world. It really had something that the two Tactics Advanced titles lacked in their overall designs.

@GamingGoddess:
Ehrgeiz made me like Zach more than Cloud(Crisis Core just cemented it). I would love to play that game again.

So, PSOne originals run on the PSP too, right? So... will square be embarrassed when the emulated original performs better, ie without slowdown, than the PSP port?

I would be all over this if I didn't still have my original copy and PSP remake. Despite the patchy translation I really preferred the names of items/spells/abilities from the first one. Probably all due to nostalgia but it's still fantastic news.

I've never played this, it's one of the few PSone Final Fantasy games I've never played next to Chocobo Racing. I support the cause by buying the best PSone Classics released through the PSN, I just wish Sony would take Europe a little more seriously with it though.

I'm hoping for the PS1 translation over the PSP version. I always enjoyed one of the lines in the first fight that was removed.

"Surrender now or die in obscurity"

Seeing it changed on the PSP, killed a small part of me.
