Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift box art comes to light photo

Phew, that's a long title. Looks like fans of the cartoon style of previous Final Fantasy Tactics titles (Advance and War of the Lions) may not care much for the new, darker approach to the box art above, but for those of you with a distinctly gothy streak still left over from high school (ahem), it ought to suit you just fine. Then, of course, there's the game itself -- here are the features per Square Enix:

- Explore the fantastic world of Ivalice and join forces with famous heroes from FINAL FANTASY® XII – Vaan, Penelo and Al-Cid.
- All-new content and enhancements, including polished game mechanics, new jobs, new classes, and a new clan system that enrich the Ivalice experience for fans and newcomers alike.
- The North American release will allow players to command characters in battle and navigate through menus all with a tap of the stylus.
- Witness vibrant and colorful visuals in dual-screen presentation, made possible by Nintendo DS.
- Increased replay value with up to 400 available quests, allowing players to immerse themselves in a multi-faceted storyline.

There's more to wipe your saliva all over at the official website, which marks the title for a June 24th release. Here's to hoping you have plenty of free time to dedicate to this one.

Man, I seriously can't wait until this game comes out. I've played over 120 hours on final fantasy tactics and tactics advance, and I think that they're great! June 24th won't be that long of a wait tho.

I like the box art. I mean the game is called "grimoire of the rift"- it's bound to have a dark aesthetic.

Also, Colette your article title has a typo in it.

@Rucksack - what else is new. I spellchecked it, so if it went through that I don't know what to tell you.

I like this cover art. I've always been a fan of the Japanese FF boxes; very simple and elegant. This seems to be in the same vein.

FFTA was video game crack to levels unheard of since Diablo or PSO. I can't wait for this game. :D

Instead of this FFTA kiddy crap I wish they would make a real sequel to the original FFT. The story for the original trumps the Advance version in every way. That said, the box art is cool.

I was wondering when this was finally going to come out. Seemed like forever since I heard any real news on it.

I'm sold but I think that's a given.

Wait, does that mean you cannot command your guys in battle when you buy the PAL release?

Awesome boxart.

Now if only the story was more along the lines of the original FFT instead of another kiddy story that happens to take place in Ivalice then I'd feel a little more hyped for FFTA2. It was my biggest peeve with the first Advance game and will likely be the same with this. The gameplay is its own saving grace.

Awesome, I dumped over 100 hours into the GBA one, I'll definitely pick this one up. I hope the AI is better though, the computers in the GBA FFT:A were dumb.

aaaaamen.

i love love love the original FFT (as well as the PSP "re-make"). i would absolutely kill for a true FFT sequel and not the FFTA style kind.

i will definitely buy this and play it, but if its like FFTA1 then i may end up putting it down after a bit. it has its merits and im sure some prefer it over the original, but i find it to be a lesser version, lacking in many places... and from what i hear this game is very similar to the first, save for the storyline. while im all for a better storyline, there is much room for improvement in other areas as well.

FFT is awesome, so ill take what i can get, but cmon... wheres the REAL sequel?

Great boxart, but I echo the call to a non-kiddy story (and this is coming from a guy who plays Mario and Kirby). It amazes me that apparently FFTA2's story is even worse than FFTA's. It makes no sense--the story is absolutely incongruous with the target audience of such a game.

I will most likely buy this game but I'm afraid it will be just a bunch of crap like the other FFTA. Honestly there's been no strategy game that comes close to FFT.

FFT was good cause it also made sense, if you were from at a high location your archer had greater range, attacking from behind of flanking would cause more damage, etc etc

FFT was the perfect tactical game.

The UK are lucky enough to get those elegant FF covers (I almost considered rebuying the PAL version of Revenant Wings just so my collection was uniform) and this is a step in the right direction. American box art is always too busy design-wise. This is beautiful.

wut? those are ffXii aka 12 characters..

i kind of like the cover.. reminds me of the psp remakes of 1 and 2.. which to me are just boring.

also, i could do without the 12 tie-in's...i was hoping for another Neverending story rip off.. /sigh i loved the first tactics advance.

I'd have to agree with Genius here. Why keep making crappy Tactics game when a sequel to the original FF Tactics for the PS1 would be amazing? The original Tactics is easily one of the greatest RPGs (both story/plot wise and all around game wise) ever made, in my opinion. A sequel to that Tactics would be a vast improvement over this silly shit they keep putting out for the DS. Make a PS3 sequel to the original Tactics already SquareEnix.
