I felt a little sketchy about Final Fantasy XIV when I first saw the trailers and such, but since I've seen more I admit I am considering playing it. If I hadn't already been convinced, though, this trailer would have done the trick, since it stars one of my favorite Japanese actors and is just kind of my kind of thing in general. And it's a little on the gay side, which goes a long way with me when it comes to Japanese media. I know, the guy looks like a girl, I know. I LIKE IT.
The game will be out on September 30th for PC. PS3 users will have to wait until March, according to the official website. Who else is biting?
Destructoid's not sure of it, Spoony's not liking it, and the general public is wary. I'm going to step back a moment and concentrate more onto GW2 now.
That trailer was pretty awesome! Still not sure if I can get around the whole MMO thing with FFXIV though, I've always thought of Final Fantasy as single player experiences. I might have try it out if reviews are good though.
And just a little aside: Colette, I LOVE seeing you posting on the front page again!
Tell me that doesn't look like Anakin in Star Wars Episode III. So weird...
Anyway, I don't think I'll play it. I don't play MMOs in general because I know I'll get addicted and I don't wanna risk it. I'll definitely watch for reviews though.
Nope. I remember too many stories about a guild fighting the Pandemonium Warden for 18 hours strait before giving up to want to sign up for Square's new time sink, no matter how pretty it is for an MMO.
@Collette - I ALMOST didn't recognize him! He actually looks more manly in this than usual! I can honestly say I'm now more interested in this game....lol
Are you SURE about 360 and PS3 version also coming out on 9/30? Far as I know it's PC on 9/30, PS3 sometime early next year and 360 is up in the air at this point. If it's true, sweet. I might not get it right away though. Still have bad memories of 11 and want to see if people say it's better or just SSDD.
well don't get your hopes up, FF14 is a horrible game. after playing it for several hours i find no redeeming qualities whatsoever in square's lack of innovation or willingness to adapt to rising standards of the mmorpg genre.
I will give them credit for marketing the crap out of this as the cut scenes looks nice (tho the first one did seem a bit dull) but for what I've seen of the game its dull much like 11
They can put up all the advertisements and all the cinematics they like, and it's not going to change my view that the game looks incredibly dull. It's a classically-styled MMO and the combat looks incredibly placid.
If they wanted to spend all this time sprucing up the graphics and the cinematics, I have to wonder why they don't just take another run at making movies.
"You obviously don't know anything about the game"
@runtheplacered: Did you even read the commentors post? Besides, I ahve to agree - the only redeeming quality FF14 has going for it are the graphics; everything else is dull - it's just another generic MMO; whatever "skill system" they try and employ...
After playing the open beta for FFXIV, I will not be getting FFXIV. If you're a PC and PS3 owner, wait for the PS3 version and hope the game is playable and fun by March.
I logged a few hours of the beta. I wanted to like it, I really did. The class and XP system seem really neat. I just can't get past the UI - it sucks more than anything that has sucked before. I understand it is easier for them to keep the console and PC versions as much the same as possible, but when the UI actively dissuades you from playing the game it needs to be replaced. Get it out of my way and let me play.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

@epic-koryuken -- Oh, how sweet of you! Are you saying that so I don't ban you?
@Moe P0w3r - IT TOTALLY IS! OMG SOMEONE ELSE KNOWSSSSSS
The white girls at 0:41 are super cute. Also, I love how there's only two seconds of gameplay shown.

It would have been amazing if that 1 line was sung somewhere in the build up of the music.
You obviously don't know anything about the game. I mean, it certainly has its faults.. but "lack of innovation" isn't one of them.
