Early last month we learned that classic RPG Final Fantasy IX was confirmed for Japan's PlayStation Network. Great news, though it's not a confirmation of a U.S. release. It's worth nothing that in only one month's time Square Enix has announced that development work on the game is done. A twitter update from Square Enix Members' Japanese account says that it's done already.
The tweet also says that fans can expect an update on the game as early as next week. Maybe Japan will get a solid release date.
I don't know how long they were working on it before, but I'd love to believe that it only takes a month to get these things wrapped up for download. If that truly is the case, then where the hell is all of my favorite PS1 games?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'm about halfway through Soul Silver, hopefully this is available by the time I finish!
I am so incredibly psyched for this since I discovered recently my PSX copies have died a death. FFIX is probably the best Final Fantasy, even if it may not be my favourite.
GLEEGASM.
Probably where my digital copy of Jet Set Radio HD on XBLA is sitting. :(
please BRING XENOGEARS!
FF IX is fantastic; I will definitely be picking this one up.
Granted, it's no III(VI, whatever) but it's hard to top perfection.
Now that they will have all the FF games out, they need to get Vagrant Story on the US store. EU has had it for almost 6 months now.
Bring Einhander to the states too while you're at it Square.
Also, whoever owns the rights to Colony Wars needs to get that shit on there too.
You can't set the JP store to english, but you can make a HK account and set that to english. The HK store gets about 99% of the same content that the JP store gets.
However, the game itself will not be in english until they release it for US.
"What exactly takes time?"
Hype.
Yeah, it takes no time whatsoever. The games ALREADY play on all PS3s (they're all PS1 compatible), and most of them will play on PSPs as well with only minor issues (though I could never get Brave Fencer Musashi to work).
And on topic, I'm looking forward to this because it's the only PS1 FF game I didn't play for some reason.
Also, I'm waiting patiently for Vagrant Story to be released on PSN. I suspect it will be next in line after this one. Even though I still have my original PS1 copy, I still think I'll buy it again for ease of play.
