Square Enix has revealed that it's working on yet another Final Fantasy port, because we definitely need more of those. Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection gathers not only Final Fantasy IV, but its mobile sequel, The After.
Thankfully, it won't just be a pair of straight ports. The Complete Collection will boast new visuals and, more crucially, an all-new scenario which ties the two games together. It's set for a Spring 2011 launch in Japan, with no international details at this time.
I just remembered what a bitch Zeromus is.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
God, did I love 5's job system.
Oh well, I'm getting repressed memories of that cave that doesn't allow metal weapons.
But what will I do if my folks got me FFIVDS? :O (*whisper* Not to mention we're getting a system that can play The After Years for Christmas. *whisper*)
*I'm still part of an age where a physically released game should be as complete as it should be (though I guess with the minor changes in Metroid Prime and SSB Melee, not to mention my seeking of an EU copy of FFIVA, I've already traveled parallel). Downloadable titles, sure, but if it requires physical media, by dammit it should be self-contained.
Kains jump command saved my ass so many times in that fight.
Lol, right? Maybe when the next FF game comes out and inevitably sucks we will get an ff6 remake that looks on par with something like ff13.
I'd actually be down for that. I wasn't too keen on the DS version and shelling out eight bucks for each installment The After is a bit too steep for my liking. Plus you'll get some visual consistency in this version with it being all 2D.
Wonder if they'll keep the voice acting in, though.
Never mind, I just remembered what Cid sounded like.
Though his "And so young, too" quip was boss.
"Square Enix: "Sorry for FF14:"
FTFY, considering they have nothing to apologize for on 13.. but 14, that's a whole other thing. You may have simply not been able to appreciate 13 for whatever reason (oh no, it's linear!) but 14 on the other hand is an admitted train wreck on SE's part.
The script and graphics also put the original game to shame. That's about as good as you can expect a DS game to look using polygons. I agree that souped-up sprite work would have been a better fit for the hardware, but at least enemies were animated rather than flashing to indicate an attack.
I actually disliked the slightly SD style too - till I tried the game out, that is.
About the only thing that bothered me about the game was Rydia's weird custom summon. Seemed tacked on for no reason other than to draw its face.
It would be funny if they did sprite graphics on the PSP version.
I'm hoping, desperately hoping this sees a Western release. C'mon, Square, don't let us down now!
Me too. FFV job system was really awesome. Hell I was really impressed of how much complete it was, even modern JRPG's lack of complex in this area, and thinking that was released more than 15 years age makes me thing that it was really advanced for the times.
But don't worry. Is true that the remaking of FFV and FFVI for DS was halted, but it wasn't cancelled at all, so considering that the 3DS is around the next corner and that all the nintendo consoles have the same architecture which makes really easy the process of translate a project from a nintendo device to an another, I will bet my kingdom that in a near future we are going to see anounced the remakes of those games for 3DS.
