Final Fantasy IV, FFIV: The After coming to PSP photo

Square Enix has revealed that it's working on yet another Final Fantasy port, because we definitely need more of those. Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection gathers not only Final Fantasy IV, but its mobile sequel, The After.

Thankfully, it won't just be a pair of straight ports. The Complete Collection will boast new visuals and, more crucially, an all-new scenario which ties the two games together. It's set for a Spring 2011 launch in Japan, with no international details at this time.

I just remembered what a bitch Zeromus is.

Still waiting for the DS remake of 5...

God, did I love 5's job system.

Oh well, I'm getting repressed memories of that cave that doesn't allow metal weapons.

Is somewhat annoyed that a WiiWare sequel to a SNES game is being release on the PSP, not the DS...

Wouldn't this be better on the 3DS? No?

It's not really a "WiiWare sequel" since it was released initially on cell phones and only later ported to WiiWare.

I still love it. Release as many as you want Square. Just please eventually do the same with Vi. And Chrono Cross. and IX.

Also: Please, oh please, let this be on par with the inevitable FFV and FFVI 3DS remakes (minus the 3D part, though I guess that could be *shudder* patched in*). FFIV's always been on the short end of these in comparison to its SNES/SFC kin (for example: FF CHRONICLES FMV vs FF ANTHOLOGY FMV, FFIVA's bugginess vs FFVA and FFVIA), all on account of going first.

*I'm still part of an age where a physically released game should be as complete as it should be (though I guess with the minor changes in Metroid Prime and SSB Melee, not to mention my seeking of an EU copy of FFIVA, I've already traveled parallel). Downloadable titles, sure, but if it requires physical media, by dammit it should be self-contained.

Yeah zeromus was a pain, for the first 5 minutes or so he spams his big bang attack and after that he go's nuts with his flare spells. Its nit so bad once he starts using flare though, that just messes up one person, Big bang kicks the entire party's ass.

Kains jump command saved my ass so many times in that fight.

Great, there's no way that I'd get the download only WiiWare of The After Years on account of it costing a stupid amount of money. This is just what I could do with to complete this saga. Just hope you don't have to complete the first part before the second becomes available; I'm still planning on playing Final Fantasy IV DS soon after all!

Here's hoping for a PSP version of FF VI. It's the only one (besides V) that I haven't played.

Lol, right? Maybe when the next FF game comes out and inevitably sucks we will get an ff6 remake that looks on par with something like ff13.

I'm guessing this is going to be a 2D remaster of FFIV akin the previous PSP releases, but with some of the job refinements from the DS version. Plus After Years.

I'd actually be down for that. I wasn't too keen on the DS version and shelling out eight bucks for each installment The After is a bit too steep for my liking. Plus you'll get some visual consistency in this version with it being all 2D.

Wonder if they'll keep the voice acting in, though.

Never mind, I just remembered what Cid sounded like.

Though his "And so young, too" quip was boss.

@ThisTookMoreThanFiveSecondsToMake,

"Square Enix: "Sorry for FF14:"

FTFY, considering they have nothing to apologize for on 13.. but 14, that's a whole other thing. You may have simply not been able to appreciate 13 for whatever reason (oh no, it's linear!) but 14 on the other hand is an admitted train wreck on SE's part.

I hope it's a great port. I LOVE FF4 and 6. They're my favorite, but the DS remakes were absolute shit. Please no retarded graphics.

As much as Square likes to shovel out these remakes with mostly minor changes, I actually beg to differ; the DS remake of FF4 was amazing. The boss difficulty made it quite challenging, and they balanced the game's reward rates enough to make the dungeons a test of endurance too if you didn't sit around grinding.

The script and graphics also put the original game to shame. That's about as good as you can expect a DS game to look using polygons. I agree that souped-up sprite work would have been a better fit for the hardware, but at least enemies were animated rather than flashing to indicate an attack.

I actually disliked the slightly SD style too - till I tried the game out, that is.

About the only thing that bothered me about the game was Rydia's weird custom summon. Seemed tacked on for no reason other than to draw its face.

It would be funny if they did sprite graphics on the PSP version.

Square Enix is pretty much the only reason my PSP is seeing use. I'm using it for FFIX, still have to work my way through Kingdom Hearts BBS (dropped it briefly due to school overload) and they've got Lord Of Arcana, Parasite Eve 3, Final Fantasy XIII Agito and now this in the works.

I'm hoping, desperately hoping this sees a Western release. C'mon, Square, don't let us down now!

Meh. I'm so very thoroughly not interested. I've bought Final Fantasy IV enough times now that I officially don't care. It's a great game with a lot of great memories, but I draw the line after paying $200 for the same game, same story, same graphics. Hell, I'm sick of the DS remakes. Unless I start seeing Final Fantasy games remade on consoles, with all the bells and trimmings that entails, I'll give anything coming down the line a pass.

Hopefully they fix the encounter rate. I bought Final Fantasy Chronicles when it came out and tried playing through FFIV, but man oh man the encounter rate was ridiculous ... seemed like literally every 3 steps you got into a battle. It completely ruined the game for me and had to stop playing.

@Onyx Oblivion

Me too. FFV job system was really awesome. Hell I was really impressed of how much complete it was, even modern JRPG's lack of complex in this area, and thinking that was released more than 15 years age makes me thing that it was really advanced for the times.

But don't worry. Is true that the remaking of FFV and FFVI for DS was halted, but it wasn't cancelled at all, so considering that the 3DS is around the next corner and that all the nintendo consoles have the same architecture which makes really easy the process of translate a project from a nintendo device to an another, I will bet my kingdom that in a near future we are going to see anounced the remakes of those games for 3DS.
