Final Fantasy IV (or, II, as I will always remember it on the SNES) is one of my favorite games of all time. I was excited about the DS remake, but a little nervous as I didn’t want the fancy new polygonal graphics to take away from the original’s charm.

After watching the above English language trailer, however, I am now losing my mind with excitement. I have to play this game right now.

It has been a long while since I have experienced this otherworldly feeling of unbridled joy and wonder. Hearing Cecil, Kain, and Rosa speak for the first time over that beautiful, classic music just gave me chills. Even though it was for only a minute, I felt like a kid again.

Please be nice in the comments about the voice acting. It may not be the best, but let me bask in this warm, wonderful light of nostalgia just a little bit longer.

[Thanks for making my day, CronosBlade]

Why would we NEED games to be in japanese with english subtitles?

Anyone who doesn't like English dubs...hates america. There, I said it.

Eh, I liked the Japanese trailer better. This was essentially a shorter version of it, only with mediocre voice acting. >.>

The game looks awesome though. Never played the original, so I'm excited to have a new game to over again. xD

Shame upon all ye who have yet to play this game! If I were to do that "How the affair started" thing or w/e this would be what it is about. I was 4 when it was released in the States in '91 and I had played FF1 before it on my cousin's NES, but I never really got into RPGs until I played this one.

Actually, the original Japanese katakana has it pronounced "se-shi-ru".
I think that's why the translator/director made the choice to pronounce his name as in the video, because it's closer to the original Japanese pronunciation. That and they probably never played the game on the SNES like the rest of us.
I also used to pronounce his name "see-sul" (in my head) back in the SNES days.

And Japanese voice actors on average are better than their North American counterparts. But that's largely due to the cultural emphasis on animation and voice acting in Japan. Demand and competition breed quality.
There are some AMAZING NA VAs, but they're few and far between. Most of the rest are sub-par to our own internal dubbing back when there were no voices in games.

Wait, you mean you didn't use different voices inside your head when playing SNES RPGs? >.>

For those who don't speak Japanese, the pronunciation I should have written is "se-she-roo".

And just to keep the ball rolling, Rydia was always "rye-dee-uh" to me.
Apparently to the Japanese it's "ree-dee-uh" (sounds a lot like Lydia).
Who knew?

Cecil's voice is ok. I agree very cliche.

Twins sound pretty bad. Should be more serious rather then the silly voices they have.

Kain voice is so terrible and stupid. He sounds like like that blonde guy sky from winx club but a little deeper. His japanese voice is quite sexy lol. but this one D:. damn i don't find him sexy at all now in this english version !

Rosa sounds wierd. Listen..does she sound a little old?

The 3d things look silly . I would of prefered more real images like the trailer. (WTB real image of kain's face..there's none in this i think. he takes his mask off at the end but its only in one cutscene where he is in his stupid 3d form.)

SE just making money again. why can't they actully make a decent graphic upgrade rather then make a serious story with serious good looking characters look like such stupid 3d big head things..

I'm just going to fight back on this since many are of the grain that mediocre or just tolerable voice acting is fine and it's those who oppose it who have the problems. First, when you play a game you sign up to live with the eccentricities for the rest of the experience. And that this should be enjoyable.

Frankly I didn't pay to listen to pokemon voice actors and I think it's a waste of development money if the voice acting would be bad for the english dub but much better in japanese. Also it's not just japanese. If this was originally in spanish and that sounded better I'd prefer spanish as well. need to turn off the voices to bypass a feature I don't like. That said, yes I can enjoy it without hearing a thing but for those who are ROOTING for the voice acting and think those who disagree are lazy for not learning an entire language, I beg to differ. First such a statement is ridiculous. You should know not many of us can just OH pick up native fluency conveniently for the sake of playing games when we have full time jobs. (I'm trilingual already, why bother learning another language to native fluency when it won't benefit my line of work). Second, we prefer reading rather than having things dictated with bad acting to us. I'm a fan of good subbing and that would be Cowboy Bebop.

If you like it more power to you but don't say those who really dislike it are "lazy" for not learning a new language. We can easily fight back and say you're lazy for having things read to you in cheezy tones and medieval accents.

*dubbing not subbing. Cowboy bebop's dubbing was excellent.
