Final Fantasy IV DS, Dissidia, and Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Job Thang scans photo

Keeping up with Square-Enix's avalanche of Final Fantasy development in the last few years has been a handful, but very exciting for the RPG gamer. This fresh paella of scans comes from the latest Shonen Jump.  Each page features one of the three upcoming games you'll never finish and wish you did: the DS remake of Final Fantasy IV on the DS, the new and mysterious Dissidia PSP (melee?) game, and the XII spinoff title respectively. JeuxFrance notes that International Zodiac Job System "will make it possible to each character to have his own grid of licence and to choose among 12 jobs available."  That should keep us busy.

Warning: Hardcore FF fans will recognize the famous Cecil and Rosa tower scene and will immediately s**t their pants. Of the batch, I'm personally most excited about this title. It appears they've greatly improved on the III engine, presuming it will play similarly. Like somebody said on GAF, I can't believe I'm excited to buy this game again FOR THE FOURTH TIME. G'aaah!

We also finally see Nomura's take on Kuja and Zidane. Do you approve?

Too much Final Fantasy. Even my roommate, who is a FF freak, is getting tired fo the remakes.

FF4(US:2) is my favorite so yes please!

Even though I still haven't finished it on the GBA, I think I lost it.

I love FF but I still need to play and beat 7. I know I know..blasphemy blah blah blah. At least this will give me a reason to turn on my PS3.

As much as I enjoyed 4, there's absolutely no way I'm dropping another 35 bucks for another remake.

=(

I'm tired of remakes, until they bring them to the 360 for FF Achievements. And then, I really only want them to remake FF9, even though it's already perfect.

Hmm, I approve of Nomura's Zidane, but anything that makes the hydrocephaloids from FFIX look more human is good.

I'm sick of having to buy all the FF games a million times. Better start saving up, I'm sure V and VI will follow shortly.

hmm...

III, IV, Chocobo Tales, Ring of Fates, Tactics A2, Revanent Wings...

6 ff games for the ds? isn't this kinda overkill on the whole final fantasy ds thing or the name as a whole?

I didn't like FF7, ruined me for RPGs, but then I picked up a used copy of Golden Sun and I got a little back into RPGs

I have to disagree with some of the comments so far- FFIV on the DS? Uh, HELL YES!!!!

I know it's the same exact game I've played countless times before... but I can't help but get a little misty-eyed just seeing those 3D screens. CecilRosaKainRydia FTW!

God damn.... Final Fantasy IV.... Wow, that looks so awesome I'm almost speachless.It's been forever since I've played that. I was tempted to run out and buy the FF Advance ports but I'll wait and see what happens now.

This is completely ridiculous. They haven't even released all the spin-offs/remakes/sequels they've already announced yet. And how can they still be missing the concept of putting out the main FF games on Virtual Console?

If they are gonna keep going with all of these remakes, they should just go all out and remake them for next gen systems.

I'm excited about IV -- I've never played it. So I find it particularly cool that I'll get to experience the souped up version.

Sorry for the double post, but I'm kind of confused about the new FFXII game -- is it a totally new game? I was under the impression is was just an international version with a tweaked license system.

Who is the other character besides Zidane in the Dissida scan? O__o

I can make out the kana, but for the life of me I can't think of any character it could possibly sound like. >_<;

I'll play a FF game when it is no longer a turn-based RPG. Until then, meh.

As somebody who got into Final Fantasy late in the game, these are a welcome commodity. Especially if they're as great as FFII on the DS. I'll probably pick up FFIV, unless it rolls around near christmas again. Lets get some Chrono Trigger love though.

BTW: Canadian Geese--->FFXII was not a turnbase rpg, so have you played an FF game at all?

I'm a hypocrite, I've been bashing ff remakes since the remakes on the psone. However FFIV and FFVI remakes on the DS are definitely something I want to see. Seeing that Square has given up on making good new games, they might as well remake their good games, that in all honesty many young'uns haven't played. Who doesn't want to see a chrono trigger, Romancing Saga 3, Secret of Mana, Bahamut Lagoon? I know I do. Rereleases are stupid like what you saw on the psone and the gba releases of the ff games. I'm for remakes if they did what they did to ff3, which is what I call a true remake. From what i see from FFIV, i'm completely for it. I will also buy ffVI if they did the same thing

I'm really glad to hear the news on FFIV... it's about time they made som real remakes... before FF3, all the "remakes" were more like ports with a few extra fetures and slightly updated sprites... The DS treament that the old games are getting really adds something to the old experience.

@Pistolaero

your asking for too much there... even if Square wasn't making like a dozen different games, games for the next-gen systems would just plain cost too much to make; not to emntion how long it would take to make them... i mean, the remakes would probably not seal as well as games like FF13 will, so they may not churn enough of a profit to make it worth while... i think this why they haven't made the FFVII remake many fans have been dying for, it still be a bit too costly in order to make the game and hope to make a good profit... given a couple of years and we may see a PS2 remake

DS however, has a grpahic level about that of the PS1... games on that level in this day and age are not nearly as costly or time consuming to make. So Square can turst that the games will sell enough to cover those costs... hopefully it will not be too long until they can do the same on PS2 level graphics... I'm kinda guessing that FFVI will be next to get the FF3 treatment, though i would personally wan to see it done in a more serious style like that of FFVIII... or even more preferable, Being remade for PS2 (though that might be too costly)... not really a big fan of that super deformed style...

Ha, good point. I guess I'll be buying IV for the fifth time when they make it on 1080p when 3600p games are available :)

I'm down for them remaking/reimagining any game they want. Its better than playing the same damn football/baseball/basketball game every year.

But all I'm saying is they better make with the Chrono action(new one, remake, i don't care) soon.

@ Orcist: You're in for a treat then since you've never played IV. I've only ever played the original snes version, so a complete 3d remake looks sw33t! Plus, if they do anywhere near as a good of a job as they did with IIIDS, then it should be pretty great.

One thing that is a little weird though - why the fuck is Cecil so skinny? Why must every FF made for Nintendo be chibi? FFIV is epic and dark and huge dammit.
Monte's Avatar - Comment posted on 05/09/2007 23:42

@grrza

My guess... Square thinks Nintendo=kiddie and Sony=mature
It's clear when you look at all of Square's track recond ever since Sony showed up...
nintendo- Revelent Wings, FF3, FF4, FFTA, FFTA2, Chocobo tales, Cystal Cronicles, KH:COM
Sony- FFVII-XIII, Crisis core, FFTactics, Dissidia, Dirge of Cerebus, kingdom hearts 1 and 2

Seriously, everything done for Nintendo is given a "kiddie" treatment... they're either much more kid friendly games or atleast done in a style that appeals a bit more to a younger generation (chibi)... where as everything done for Sony is made in a style that is much more darker and serious, something that appeals to an older generation...

This why i fear that If either FF4 or 6 were done in a serious style, they would probably wind up on the PSP instead of DS (even though i think the DS could handle FF8 quality graphics)... apparently, square is part of the crowd that thinks nintnedo is more of a kid's system.
