This was originally a 40 dollar DS game so 15 dollars doesn't seem too ridiculous. You would probably find it used for the DS around the same price. As a company, I think square has to at least test this price point. And at least you are getting a full game here with hours of tested quality game play. That's better than paying 10 dollars for mediocre (IMO) and short rehash of some old sonic levels.
It's true that we've become accustomed to dirt cheap games on iOS devices but as more games most close to their handheld counterparts I would expect the price to as well.
All that being said, 15 dollars is still more than I'm willing to pay for an iOS game, but maybe I would feel differently if I hadn't already paid 40 dollars to get this on my DS. As a consumer I'm not sure I like where this is going. I'd wait 6 month for a price cut or some holiday sale. Square does tend to be much stingier about those though than say Capcom or EA.
This is why iPhone gamers are leaches on the industry. The business model doesn't support any decently long, or complex games, because no one wants to pay more than Angry Birds prices. Nintendo was right.
I think the bigger question, though, is whether people actually WANT games on the iPhone with the depth of a devoted console. I suspect the answer is no.. I know I certainly don't want that on my phone. Even games that have a splash screen are rarely touched because my phone gaming is basically while I wait for my lunch to cook at work or waiting for a table in a restaurant.
I would think that would be the biggest limiting factor toward longer games, especially something like FFIII where the save point positioning isn't completely forgiving.
ps I'll take an iPod touch over a 3DS. like I need more shit in my pockets & $40 games.
