Borderlands is out and available at most retail outlets and as a digital download via Valve’s platform Steam. Chances are you knew this -- we’ve covered the game exhaustively on the news side, as well as reviewed it. But we’re not ready to close the book quite yet. This afternoon 2K Games blasted out a final launch trailer that does a decent job introducing people to the odd characters, the loot-mongering, and the fact that Brick can punch a midget’s leg off.
We’re not kidding about that last part.
Yeah, so, Borderlands -- this thing has happened. How are you guys digging the RPS?
This is the trailer they showed at the Borderlands Extravasplosion event in Dallas, TX. Great to see it again.
@10BobMarleys:
When it was shown at the event all the main characters had delightfully goofy mustaches; I guess they edited them out but forgot Brick's in that shot.
I'm on playthrough number two, enjoying the seriously ramped-up boss levels. I'm not sure if I'll try the co-op, given the occasionally gamebreaking issues reported on Gearbox's forums (which seem to be mostly frequented by illiterate, drug-addled 12-year olds).
YA WISH THEY WOULD STOP MARKETING THIS HORRIBLY BROKEN GAME. DO NOT BUY FOR PC; BUYERS BEWARE - GAME MAYBE YOUR NEXT BRICK. PC Version has - Crashes, NO multiplayer support, tons of interface problems with bad design choices, fov problems, random erase-character bugs, list goes on...
Just as proof.

Yeah, the story is pathetic and the ending is TERRIBLE.
Besides that though I have had a blast playing it. My second play through is even better than my first! Tougher enemies and better loot = awesome fun! Love this game!
Story was lame, end wasn't as horrible as I thought it was mostly because I wasn't expecting much. I thought it was actually kinda funny, in a really lame way.
On my 2nd playthrough, way more fun, much harder and way better loot. Just bugs me when it costs me freaking $400,000 every time I die. But man, you can get some good weapons.
I need the DLC. Like, right now. :P
I also just tried out the arena thingy, which is awesome. I love being challenged to duels then just throwing my bloodwing out and ending it straight away.
I think we all knew deep down that the story wouldn't be great. It's too hard to actually follow anything story related when you're playing with 3 other people anyways. The general consensus is "when do we start shooting things again?"
Because grindfests are fun for some of us. (I don't play WoW, but 10 million people can't be wrong, can they?)
I personally think it's a great game (didn't buy it for the story), but there's a TON I'd like to see changed for future releases/patches. I'd like to see a decent way to trade/duel for weapons and items other than the honor system, more customization for your character, a town safe (similar to Diablo 2) that you can store cool stuff in that you don't want to sell but don't want to keep with you, and a more intuitive way of comparing weapons to name a few. All in all, however, I can't put the damn thing down. I am incredibly satisfied.
You seem to not grasp the concept of a "grindfest". Those force you to repeat certain actions (like kill a monster) for extremely large amounts of tmie in order to reach a goal (be it a level cap or some quest).
I reached level 50 in Borderlands in a matter of days and I never had to stop so I could grind or farm enemies or do any sort of repetitive action at all... I just went through the regular quests (which are pretty varied, even though there are some clones here and there).
@mrandydixon:
Yes they can. Much larger numbers of people have been wrong. You think there can't be 10 million idiots? Do you know how much money Transformers 2 made?
This game still looks amazing and I get depressed whenever I see all of my Steam buddies playing. Anyone know if a laptop that can run HL but can't run HL:E2 will be able to handle this game?
Love every second of it, found a good farming location too, the one where you are running around a dock area while doing the "bottle of booze" quest....4 big chests 6 med ones, and a few random junk piles where i allways find at least a green, once an epic.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Take money , Buy Borderlands , enjoy the profits (In your head...)
my only criticism is that the plot is extremely thin, but the game is so good that it doesn't matter at all.

Touche.

No way, the code is based upon Unreal 3, so unless you can run Unreal Engine 3 games, then you are out of luck.
:(
Looks like it's the Xbox version for me. Some day I will have a gaming PC, this I swear.
