Final 2 character classes announced for The Old Republic photo

With six classes announced, things have looked pretty good for LucasArts' and BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic. After all, with Troopers, Jedi Knights, and Smugglers for the Galactic Republic, and Bounty Hunters, Sith Warrior and Imperial Agents for the Sith Empire, there are plenty of character choices for gamers to rock out with. Of course, knowing the nature of gamers, this is never enough for us, so what's to happen for our picky and whiny needs?

How about announcing two more classes? Of course! Rounding out the choices include the Jedi Consular, a new Jedi class for the Galactic Republic. This character offers a more thoughtful response to attacking, as opposed to the direct brutal attacks of the Jedi Knight. There's a lot of support options, as well as plenty of Force attacks. Promises to be a well rounded option for people looking for something a little different than typical Jedi attack options.

And finishing things up on the Sith Empire is the Sith Inquisitor. Fulfilling the role of a Palpatine-like character, the Sith Inquisitor uses a lot more attacks based on Force Lightning and support. he hangs out in the back, letting other do more direct damage while he zaps away at enemies .Check out the gallery for both class types in action.

Both classes seem to fix an empty spot on each side of the Republic and Sith opposition: support and mage roles. While nothing is as cut and dry as traditional class definitions, it looks like players will have more badass options, without resorting to become something lame, like a vendor or dancer. Who the hell would want to be that?

After burning our on WoW around Burning Crusade, The Old Republic is the only MMO that has any chance at all of sucking me back in. That looks like a fairly well-rounded class set. Now if only they'd announce non-human playable races. Why would anyone want to be a human in a sci fi or fantasy game? How boring is that?

You failed to mention the upcoming Hero class: Representative Jar Jar Binks. His combat style focuses on being a coward and giving Palpatine 'Emergency Powers'.

Although playing as a Sith Inquisitor seems more attractive of a prospect considering Jar Jar resembles a poorly rendered space wombat.

The lightsaber hilts are still too big for the characters' hands. It's kind of a big deal :/

Hey now, the crafting profession in Galaxies was incredibly entertaining and much more rewarding than any other MMOs current system. Your items where the best weapons or armor out there, not some drop off a huge dragon. Your products ran wars and cities. SWG was a good game before it was "fixed".

Galaxies was shit except for the crafting. But it became a huge chore, I was financing myself in the game by making and selling medicine and it became way too time consuming to go out and find the good materials for it. On the upside it had the most hilarious bug I've ever seen when I was in the beta. Sometimes npcs would randomly just not have clothes on, and you could see their ken and barbie parts! The first time I saw this I ran into a group of naked npcs dancing around a campfire in the middle of nowhere.

@ Brannigans Law

Or the bug where NPC spawn locations would continue to create new mobs with no limit in sight. Nothing like riding around on Dantooine and have a Legion of Grauls materialize around you, choking your computer while murdering both you and your speederbike.

Kind of disappointed that the final two classes aren't Jedi related. I thought the previously announced Jedi and Sith classes would be able to specialize into being these types of roles. That's not to say that I can really think of a good, fun, fourth playable class. Maybe a droid class? (only Star Wars trope that doesn't seem to be represented)

@ Ben,

"without resorting to become something lame, like a vendor or dancer. Who the hell would want to be that?"

Apparently you didn't play Star Wars Galaxies Pre-NGE/Pre-CU. That sucks for you, you missed out on something great. But to answer your question... a LOT of people wanted to be entertainers. They filled a vital role in the game and it really added something to the Star Wars ambiance. It was also another area where people could role-play if they so chose, and it allowed the cantinas to actually have people in them, as opposed to barren NPC hideouts.

Interesting update on the classes. I wish I was paying more attention to this game, but until it gets closer to release I don't want to get too excited.

I still think this game looks way too generic. I'll keep losing interest until I see group dynamics, their plans for group encounters, and the difficulty level of the game.
