Fils-Aime talks Wii storage, forgets a hard drive completely solves the problem

Fils-Aime talks Wii storage, forgets a hard drive completely solves the problem photo
     Nintendo

In a recent interview with Latin America’s official Nintendo magazine Club Nintendo, NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime acknowledged the issue with storage on the Wii, and that the company is currently working on a solution. He also mentioned that the solution might not necessarily be a hard drive.

I want the people to have the right expectations. We have never said that it will be a hard drive, nor have we mentioned how we will fix this issue, but we are going to deliver a better way to store games.

If by “right expectations” Fils-Aime meant “hard drive” then it looks like Nintendo and I are on the same page. Unfortunately, the Nintendo boss’ next line is spent tiptoeing around the idea of the rational and easy fix that a hard drive would provide. If only Nintendo realized how many times I’ve deleted StarFox.

Maybe all that Holographic drive talk might be real... I don't know how they would implement it though..

I hope when the Wii 2 comes out all this will be solved...

i think bhive nailed it. they're probably trying to figure out how they can pull off a storage solution with minimum chance of piracy.

Whatever the storage solution end up being Nintendo just better hurry up, and release it. I mean my god they're the market leader so start acting like one already. This problem should have been addressed a year ago, or more!

I have a 320 GB laptop harddrive in my PS3, why can't they just use a thin HD like that in the wii?

It's going to be a service that you pay for on a server that will be shut down in 5 years.

This is code for them doing something stupid that they think will fix the problem, but make things even more annoying. No matter what hackers will get around stuff, they may as well provide a storage solution that will be easy for their consumers, beit a usb HDD or enabling reading directly from SD cards.

From what I understand, reading directly from SD cards isn't fast enough to run games. Really a pisser.

I'm just guessing that nintendo is going to do something weird like make Wii remotes with a "memory card" in them or some kind of add on that allows that.

either that or what Knigge said.

Speculation but probably just a NAS type device that connects to the Wii's wifi. It'll be wireless, except for the power cord.

On another note, the tomato external hd used in this post's picture is H-O-T. Those koreans need to bring more of their tech/designs to the US of A.

You might be right Knigge. I heard rumours that they might try solve it that way. Now, while I like an MSN server holding all my emails, I'd not like one to hold all my games.

And indeed, what happens when the console dies?

Stop fucking cock blocking and make a fuckin hard drive. I'm so tired of Nintendo treating us like we don't know what we want.

Like most of you, I think that Nintendo's trying to implement a regular storage device but preventing the piracy options at maximum, and that's why they don't want to release something as simple as a Hard Drive. For me, I'm not downloading any VC nor WW game 'til they release a comfty storage option for my Wii...

Seriously! I had to move like seven of my VC games to an SD card just to make space for SBCGfAP. Hard drive please.

I dont think they're going for a HDD because it isnt nearly as fast as SD, and they wouldnt make as much money off of it.
I expect Nintendo to release a Wii-only storage card, which'd only contain enough space for about 5 VC games.

Thats what I'd do if I was Nintendo.

I've boughten quite a bit of online games through PSN. If the PS3 didn't have a great hard drive system like it does, I doubt I'd buy much until it was fixed. Regardless, it seems pretty plain to me that Nintendo doesn't care all that much.
