Fils-Aime says third parties just don't get it photo

Nintendo of America's beefburger boss Reggie Fils-Aime has claimed that third parties don't "get" the Wii, and that is why there is a lot of rubbish on the console.

"I will be able to say our licensees 'get it' when their very best content is on our platform," explained the savory executive after admitting that third party support is not known for its quality. "And with very few exceptions today, that's not the case."

I find myself disagreeing with the gravy-blooded boss on this count. I think third parties "get" the Wii completely. They "get" that you can put shovelware crap on the platform, fill it with useless waggle, and sell a bunch of copies to retards and the terminally ignorant. I'd say they "get it" completely.

If anyone's failing at the Wii, it's Sega and Capcom. Putting good third party games on a system? They're doing it wrong!

If nintendo "gets it", they should make a few more games that prove their point - or at the very least, up the quality control of 3rd party support. Give me a reason to buy a damn game for the wii. I have the money right here. If you want me to keep giving it PS3 and PC, I will. If not, prove it. Truth be told, last game I bought for the Wii was Baroque. That was a while ago.

As much as I love Sterling's writing style, all jokin aside, I do agree with the Regginator in the sense that I feel disappointed that there is so much potential with the Wii and that the third-parties are choosing to not take advantage of it as they have on the DS. Some of the DS' best games have come from third-parties taking advantage of the system, such as The World Ends With You and Elite Beat Agents.

With that said, all of the excitement that I formerly had with the Wii has dwindled into nothing now that my beloved Animal Crossing is a crap rehash on the Wii and there is absolutely nothing else this year. This former Nintendo fan is starting to really despise Nintendo.

As it stands I'm only buying games for the PS3, whilst you're pushing out grade A horse manure from 3rd party developers. Make (or enable someone else to make) a good game and I'll buy it!

Well Reggie speaks the truth! Sure there are some great little gems on the Wii, but its all 2nd & 3rd rate development teams working on them. Meanwhile the top teams are all working on multimillion dollar games on the 360/PS3. Its sickening that Wii owners are essentially funding the development of these AAA 3rd Party games, and get crap back in return which sells a million on the Wii!

Haha, I love the burger pictures of this clown.

The Wii is a joke. To me, its biggest problem is everyone and their mother thinks a game on the system must include waggle. They don't. Traditional games can be made for a non traditional system. It can be done, it just isn't.

As much as the Wii is, Nintendo itself is not a joke just yet, only because they have the DS. Thats where the good games go.

Now I'll sit back and laugh as the fanboys get personal, go crazy, and start listing games for the Wii. D-Toid at work provides me with more entertainment than I should be allowed to have :D

Why would it be "crazy" or make someone a "fanboy" to use material examples to refute your point? In any case, I don't really get the constant Wii complaining. The vast majority of people here are multi-console owners and probably a PC to boot. There are good Wii games, quite a few actually. They're pretty different than good PC, PS3, 360 games. This is a GOOD thing. Unless of course your the kind of kid who says "I am a hardcore gamer!" when what you mean is "I am a hardcore testosterone addict and if my media isn't dripping with macho, musclebound violence its crap!"

Though I agree with Jim, I must also agree with Reggie. So far only Nintendo has brought out good games, such as Wii Sports, TLoZ: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Sure, there's not much new here, but they're all good and solid titles, and they're more numerous than what any other console manufacturer has managed to muster up so far. While third party developers give out shit like Carnival Games, Hannah Montana and Petz, with only rare exeptions such as No More Heroes and Zak & Wiki.

Maybe they need time to learn how to program with the Wii?

The is the new PS2, the 360 and PS3 are not. It's Publishers fault for betting wrongly on who would win the console war.

Now it's time to shift resources away from 360/PS3/PC development and put them on the Wii.

The Wii is the new PS2 - The console for everyone.

Developers need only look at Super Mario Galaxy - A game that blows most 360/PS3 games out of the wear graphically and gameplay wise.

The Wii is the market leader, the savior of the gaming industry, get off your 360/PS3/PC high-horse and support he market leader.

The Wii will continue and inevitably the 360/PS3 will vanish into oblivion.

If GTA/Halo/Black/Forza/Riddick/Doom 3/Half-Life 2 could be done on the Xbox, then there's no excuse that the Wii can't handle great games.

PS2 games like Okami, God of War, Shadow of the Colossi, ICO, Resident Evil 4, Gran Turismo 4 and MGS3 stomped all over the shader heavy Xbox One.

Developers are unwilling to innovate like Nintendo and instead just churn out shinier versions of lastgen games with bigger textures.

Look at Call of Duty, GTA IV, Bioshock, Halo, Fable and MGS4, Resident Evil 5 - They'll all just shinier versions of their lastgen counterparts.

Now look at Super Mario Galaxy - An beautiful, innovative game like no other game before it.

Publishers will have to support Nintendo or sink on the PS3/360/PC.

The recession is going to destroy the PS3/360/PC ship with only the Wii above water.

Reggie is just spouting a bunch of garbage out his pie hole. It's nice he wants to play the martyr but really, if your 3rd party devs are making crap games...don't put the damn Nintendo seal of quality on the box. Nintendo wielded that seal like a club back during the NES days. Perhaps they should grow some balls and use it some more.

Nintendo has pulled its weight. They can't be expected to churn out a quality title for this game every month. Sure, there's always the Wii series to complain about, but they've been delivering a solid title every 2-3 months. The 360 might be able to do it more often, sure, but they're not splitting their development teams between two entirely different gaming devices.

Third parties have been dragging their ass save for a few like Grasshopper Manufacture (Suda 51), Hudson, Konami and Capcom except for that debacle with Dead Rising Wii. EA has been back and forth between putting out solid games and putting out crap. The rest? They haven't even bothered to show their damn face at the door.

Bam!!! A Nintendo Wii game is the 2nd highest rated game following the over-hyped technical debacle that is GTA IV.

OF course, true gamers know that Super Mario Galaxy is a better game than GTA IV, Nintendo still wins.

So much for all that power that the 360 and PS3 possess.

Super Mario Galaxy is proof that Wii games are better than the overhped drek that PS3/360 developers can come up with.

Oh year, Super Mario Galaxy will age much better than GTA IV due to the art direction taken.

Nintendo doesn't really care about the 3rd party game makers. The Wii is a good system but it's difficult to make a good game and use a wildly new control scheme that's been around for only 2 years. Add in the fact that people who buy a Nintendo system are going to get Nintendo games makes it really hard to get a profit since people will likely choose the Nintendo game before their own if presented with a choice. The other consoles are a much leveler playing field since Sony and Microsoft are more about the system then their own games and then add the fact of better graphics and that the control schemes are something people are used to makes it an easy decision for 3rd party companies.

The Nintendo Wii has an incredibly list of crappy games made by 3rd parties. No doubt that those companies think that Casual gaming = Cheap games = Low quality.

In my own opinion, there is a few games that made me buy a Wii, most of them made by Nintendo (or 2nd parties). The control scheme is great but has not been implemented correctly in software and that what disappoints gamers and it seems even Nintendo.

I'm sure it's really annoying for Nintendo to see games like L4D, Bioshock, and Portal (all of which would kick-ass with Wii pointer controls) go to the other guys, especially since other sci-fi shooters like RE4 and RE:UC sold so well on the console.

This is what Nintendo gets for making the Wii so under-powered. Developers who want their games to look as good as they possibly can don't want to develop for the Wii.

You can't have it both ways.

Not to mention Wiiware games that own, but receive little attention.

If these games turn out as I hope they will, I'll be set for next year;

Sin and Punishment 2
Mad World
The Conduit
Punch Out!!!!
Demon Blade
Little King Story
House of the Dead

That's a year's worth of games that I probably will love but never have time to finish or pay for. WHY WOULD I WANT MORE??? NOt even mentioning Wiiware and DS cause my brain would explode.

Yeah, Wii owners don't care about 3rd party games, that must explain why

-Guitar Hero 3 has sold over 3 million copies on the Wii and is the best selling version of the game

That must also explain why

-Resident Evil 4
-Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
-MySims
-Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
-Red Steel

Have sold over a million copies

Tiger Woods
FIFA
Madden

also sell well on the Wii

Yeah, I guess Wii gamers don't care about 3rd parties.

Why don't you do some research before you post? You'd make yourself look like less of a fool.

I certainly don't think that Nintendo is making good on their promise of the Wii's potential, but I would find it hard to deny that the majority of third party publishers aren't even trying. I'd say it's Nintendo's responsibility to pave the way for the third parties, which is the same way when I felt that the PS3 did not deserve most of their exclusives that went multiplatform because Sony had made no effort to create an incentive. On the other hand, there is a huge Wii market out there, and I believe third parties are being completely lazy and negligent in not trying to come up with a notable and compelling title for the system barring a few exceptions. Nintendo's putting out a few good games a year, which is all you can really expect from a single publisher. Nintendo has clearly shown that a console with the Wii's hardware can thrive in today's market and even dominate. Nintendo has also shown that motion controls can enhance gameplay (to some extent) in a popular, quality title. Nintendo hasn't done all it should to entice third parties to follow their example, but they've certainly done more than enough to earn far more support than they're getting. On the other hand, the justification for Blu-Ray is questionable at best. You don't need multiple discs, but you can get most of what's on there on a single DVD with compression. Not to mention that 2 DVDs would surely do the job for nearly every game. Besides that there are technical advantages to the DVD in load times, which beyond immediate advantages prevent any required installs. Separate required installs in MGS4 were a horrible idea and only accentuated how almost all of the install time would have been avoided if it was on two or three DVDs. I don't really think there's much to this, besides the fact that blaming Nintendo for what is at best the fault of both Nintendo and the third parties is a little harsh, when Sony told everyone that Blu-Ray was the future and did little to rebut any criticisms of the format.

There are a lot of good 3rd Party games coming to the Wii in 2009 which the system has only been out for 2 years now. So just like the DS it will take time for 3rd Party's to fully jump on board because once the Wii has outsold the competition by leaps, and bounds 3rd Party's will have no choice but to develop good quality titles for the Wii just like what's happening on the DS right now.

If the Wii outsells both the PS3/360 install base combined than 3rd Party's would be leaving massive amounts of money on the table if they continue to ignore the Wii. Which 3rd Party's don't walk away from money for nothing so they'll jump ship to the most install base platform in a heartbeat. They won't care how less powerful the Wii is as long as its making them the most money!

If Nintendo wants third-party developers to "get it," then they need to make a console that is up to modern technological standards. If I'm making a game for the PS3/360/PC, I'm not going to want to dumb it down (as well as add in motion controls) for the Wii.

I'm not saying that all Wii games look like shit, but they are not up to par with anything else. They look last-gen. Nintendo needs to realize this. They fucked themselves when they designed the Wii the way that they did.

Maybe if Sony and Microsoft ever hope to outsell the Wii, they should innovate instead of just make uselessly more expensive consoles.

As it stands, the Wii is about to outsell the PS3/360 combined this holiday seaon.

Microsoft's and Sony's problem is that their machines are too expensive and too complicated for the mass market. They basically only appeal to introverted geeks still living in their parents' basement.

The Wii, like the PS2 and PS1, is the Everyman console. Games from E to M, 8 to 80.

The Wii Motion and Pointer Consoles totally destroy the 360/PS3 outdated Dual-Analog controls.

The 360/PS3 only offer lastgen gameplay with a shiny coat of paint. Developers on the platform are creatively bankrupt and can only muster to crank out the same old RPGs/FPSs/Racing games that we have seen since the PS1.

The Wii is not for lazy developers. It a console for the talented and creative.

The Wii is the mass-market console, the 360 and PS3 neither are nor ever will be.

Play BioShock and tell me that 360/PS3 developers are creatively bankrupt. Ever heard of Little Big Planet? What about Mass Effect?

Yeah, thought so.

Those three alone have better story, graphics, and innovation than the Wii could ever hope to have.

"It is a console for the talented and creative."

We Cheer is the most creative game I've every played, and I'm shocked that Carnival Games: Mini-Golf isn't in the GOTY talks. What a shame.

Dual-Analog controls aren't outdated. Motion control has been out for one fucking console generation. When I start to play ALL my consoles with motion control, then you might have a case, but until then I' afraid you're wrong.

And your exactly right, Wii is the mass market console, which is why it gets so much crap dumped on it that it's ridiculous. People will buy anything if it has motion controls. Get real, do you really think people are buying Boogie for it's epic narrative? NO. Motion controls are a fucking gimmick, plain and simple.

I'd rather have RPGs, FPSs, and Racing games that are any GOOD rather than the same gimmicky games over and over. You'd figure with Wii developers being so "creative" that we might see more good games out for the Wii, instead of the mass-produced shit that infests the console.

And if the 360/PS3 are too complicated for the mass market, then holy fucking shit we're in trouble.
