The EVO Championship world finals are set to take place in just a little over two days. Players from all over the world are coming to the Rio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas this Friday to play games like Street Fighter IV, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Soulcalibur, Guilty Gear and more.
Spectators that want to check out the competition can go for free to watch some pro players play and they can play some games themselves. The latest build of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars and the first publicly playable Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be available for all to play.
If you can’t make EVO, you can catch a live stream of the entire weekend of competition over on the official EVO Web site or at Capcom-Unity.

Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
i just wish i had the divination skills required to pull off something like that
shinryu is right. in order to parry that special, you actually have to anticipate because u need to tap forward BEFORE the super animation even takes place. you cant actually use your eyes to see chunli coming towards you and then parry. It wont work. so anticipation is the key.
I look at 3rd strike & i look at SFIV, and i cant help but feel that SFIV is a step back. its not a better game. And i always thought that with sequels, you aim to make it better?
they say they wanted to make it more casual, but honestly, when i look at the focus attack and the parry. Its much harder to follow up after a successful focus attack, or focus canceling into a super or ultra, etc.
parrying is easier and therefore should be more casual, its just the developers felt that holding 2 buttons down made it more casual rather than tapping forward on a slow moving fireball or against an opponent who always jumps in and hard kicks at the start of a match ><"
To be honest SF4 is pretty much identical to 3 bar the parry system. EX moves, 1 super/ultra, dashing... not much about 4 is new.
i think the whole casual thing is regarding ultras. how many times have you played an awesome round and then your opponent catches you with one and puts you on the same health?
yeah you are right. i forgot about how much i hate ultras being there. but like you said it is there for the more casual gamer.
although SF4 has EX moves and stuff, i think its more of a cross between the alpha series and the EX Plus alpha zero infinity long name 3D series.
The combos in SF4 are much more akin to Aplha 1 & 2.
3rd strike is more fluid and characters can be played in alot more different ways.
a Ryu player in SF4 is almost expected to keep distance utilizing fireballs. punish jump happy opponents, and focus cancel the dragon punch, dash, Ultra.
a Ryu player in 3rd strike isnt pre-defined to use certain tactics. all you know is that he has a fireball, a dragon punch, a hurricane kick and the off the wall kick. how that player will play as ryu wont be as predictable.
3rd strike is way more technical & not jus coz of parries. it has universal overheads, more cancelable moves, more opportunities to juggle, reseting, kara cancels, red parries and such.
i admit after seing a few SF4 tourneys such as the gamestop nationals and some advanced players in my own arcade, that SF4 can be played buetifully and at a high technical level, but its not as technical and deep as 3rd strike, an because of that i see SF4 as a step back.
i hope they try to level it out a bit with the inevitable second edition of 4.
Rooting for the west coast over here. John Choi, Ed Ma, do it.
