This just in: the new Pokémon games will be called Pokémon Black and Pokémon White, and are set for for release on the Nintendo DS sometime this year. According to the games' Japanese Web site, we'll be getting more info on this situation on April 15th. Exciting!
We've known these games were coming since the announcement of Zoroak a while back, but the announcement of name, console, and year of release were all new. A lot of people were thinking that these games would end up on the Nintendo 3DS as exclusives, which we now know won't happen. People are also saying that the games' names are racist, because they contain words that are colors that people use to describe other people sometimes.
Personally, the first thing I thought of when I heard the news was Macaulay Culkin and Michael Jackson's classic collaboration on "Black or White." I think they'd both make great Pokémon. Macaulay could evolve from a cute little goof to a powered-up drag queen. Stunning! Michael's evolution cycle would be even more awe-inspiring, from normal-child-star type to noseless-zombie-ghost type.

So, I guess Im a bit peeved how Nintendo has killed any sort of evolution in Pokemon... This series has less change over time than Dynasty Warriors.

And yeah, not sure how everyone assumed race when they heard the names. I sort of imagined a more film-noir setting. Now that I think about it, a film-noir style Pokemon would be sort of awesome. Honchkrow got pretty close in design I guess.
