Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

I am still torn on this one. While my love for generic action games is well known (I don't care for faux-innovation, just give me a sword and some monsters), there's something about the brawler style action game I truly miss, and wish Golden Axe: Beast Rider would have brought back. Teaming up with a pal and smashing a bunch of cheap enemies before a little arrow says you can move on fills me with such frustrated joy.

This particular trailer looks to be trying just a mite too hard to appear epic, but it's never going to be Willow. Now Willow was one class film. A trailer can only provide so much, however. If the action is good enough, I won't care much whether or not it isn't a true brawler or how close to being as good as Willow the story is. I really want to watch Willow.

Looks a bit like that game with War in, only with fewer clothes.

(She can ride my beast any time.)

I want this so bad now. Thought there is still something really awesome about the old side scrolling action.

I tried to feast my arse on this by employing a "spread and press" technique on my monitor. Now I have a dirty monitor.

c'mon...its a SEGA game. Even if they do everything right, some part of it will feel unsatisfying.

Despite the fact I wish a new Golden Axe game would end up being more traditional hack 'n slash and less beast riding, I can't say I'm not excited to play a game where the animal I'm riding CAN RIP A MAN IN TWO. I mean... come on, last beast I rode that could do that dumped me.

Zing.

This looks shitty as hell, boooooo! Couldn't they just have made Golden Axe Trilogy HD for XBLA/PSN instead?

If I could play this with a friend I could look past the generic brawler stuff, but all I see is a SEVERE lack of imagination that didn't even try and do a unique brawler... they had to take the idea from a 90's sidescrolling three-player beat em up.

Seriously, come on. I'm gonna go watch Willow.

I'm just not interested in this game it's a single player game based on a multiplayer game. It just makes no sense to me at all. Unless she becomes topless or totally nude in the game I am not fucking interested.

Me like-y. Maybe a rental, at least, if it has satisfying 2-player offline play it might be a good one to get after all.

I dunno, looked cool but there was no real gameplay so I'm also undecided.

Maybe Im in the minority, but I think this game is gonna be wicked fun!! I agree that it sucks that its single-player, but I remember reading somewhere that the developers do plan to integrate multi-player into the sequel. So in order to ensure that there IS a sequel, we need to make sure the sales figures for this game are high....so get out there and BUY it!!!

Wait, no co-op? Is this true? Only one playable character? No super-buff barbarian or endlessly superior dwarf? THERE ISN'T EVEN ANY MAGIC SPELLS CAST IN THAT TRAILER. I realize that this is the premier trailer and it's still being developed and not much was revealed but I'm concerned.

Single player only is a horrible idea. Should have titled this something else, and do a proper Golden Axe separately (the supposed "sequel," such bullshit).

How much is Sega paying you to push this game?

They would have been better off making slapping a coat of paint on the old gameplay. At least there would have been multi-player and the badass dwarf.
Favorite part of the old games from when I was a kid: Smacking those little fast dudes for the magic potions.

This looks horrible. It reminds me of a PS1 but with bilinear filtering. It looks to be on the same level as that terrible PS2 Altered Beast game.

But you really can't expect quality from a developer whose last game was Iron Man.
