Fatal Frame IV features Luigi outfit, Nintendo fails with US release info

Fatal Frame IV features Luigi outfit, Nintendo fails with US release info photo

The Nintendo of Japan-published Wii exclusive Fatal Frame IV launched in Japan last week, and all sorts of secrets and game info are starting to pour in.

Among the secrets is the slew of unlockable costumes for the game's four characters, and it looks like one of the outfits is a spot-on match for Nintendo's "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" plumber, Luigi. It makes sense -- Luigi already has ghost hunting experience, having cleared haunted areas with a high-powered vacuum in Luigi's Mansion on the GameCube.

So far, no North American release information has been revealed for Fatal Frame IV. At this year's E3, neither Nintendo or developer Tecmo made any mention of the game. Post-E3, however, Tecmo representatives were telling press to check with Nintendo of America. When contacted, NOA reps were quiet, telling us that they'd let us know as soon as they had some solid information.

With Nintendo having shown their first-party Wii hand for the remainder of 2008 (WiiMusic, Wario Land: Shake It!), it's possible we won't see a North American release of Fatal Frame IV this year. We're crossing our fingers for a Halloween surprise, though.

@Spooky Electric:

I purchased the first Fatal Frame when it was released, and loved the atmosphere but hated the pacing. They do seem to be a bit on the slow side. I had tried playing Crimson Butterfly (FF 3) and found it to be just as slow. I keep trying, though!

This whole cos-play thing...too much for geeks and otaku. Not our target audience. Never mind the fact that we completely stole an entire fanbase by buying this franchise...we don't want it in America. Go ask Carrie, maybe if she likes it we'll release it in America. Sans photagraphy (cause Capcom told us it doesn't work on Wii) of course.

That Luigi costume is strangely erotic.

I've only played the first game, as I soon after grew out of the whole "Japanese horror" thang.

But was it good? Did that leak yet?

I only have the first Fatal Frame, and it scared the hell out of me. I can play thru the RE's, Silent Hills no problem. But its this games play mechanic, it forces you to stare down those ghosts in first-person-view, while they are coming right at you...it gets my heart pumping. Also, a total lack of "safe areas", even in the save-game rooms, makes it very intense. Play, be scared, and enjoy!

I will stab Nintendo in the eyes if they don't give us info soon.

All of their eyes. Every single employee.

They go on and on about Wii Music, yet can't say anything about Fatal Frame. Fan-tastic.

I have the 2nd Fatal Frame and I was hugely disappointed with it, HUGELY disss-A-pointed. I got about 2 hours in then shut it off and have not touched it since.

I am glad I only paid $20 for it.

@Nick

Crimson Butterfly was actually number 2. "The Tormented" was number 3. Just saying. :P

I am looking forward to this... shouldn't be any reason to stop it from going to Western audiences, considering how much interest it gets.

I'll be intrigued to see if this does any good on the Wii.
