Fatal Frame IV fan translation to feature voiceovers? photo

Holy sh*t! Talk about dedication.

I decided on the import route early on with Fatal Frame IV, as I had little hope of seeing it here any time soon. But those that couldn't wrap their head around the moon language were screwed. A fan translation is about to save the day, though. The group says that the text is 99 percent translated, and a patch will be released soon so that you may begin playing.

What's crazy is that they're not done. Now they're beginning work on voiceovers for the game. I don't know how good voicework by gamers is going to be, but you have to respect their dedication.

That's awesome. If YouTube is any indication there are still quite a few undiscovered great actors out there so hopefully they just happen to be friends with a few of them.

They are doing what Nintendon't; bringing good third-party games to the Wii.

I check the site nearly daily for months on hopes of release.

Its really sad that fans have to do Nintendo's work for them because they just can't be bothered.

Nintendo really screwed Fatal Frame fans everywhere.

I hope Silent Hill: Shattered Memories never gets a release in Japan.
That'll teach'em.

I'm still holding off on importing this. I loves me some Fatal Frame, but I don't want to find out that the team abandoned the project at 99 percent, or someone comes along to serve them a cease and desist...or by some miracle, it gets a US release.

When they hit 100% and release the patch, I'll grab the game. Until then...

I remember a Chilean Gamers grupo who was working on voiceovers for one of the first Call of Duty, 'cause the spanish version (from spain) really sucks

I wish they wouldn't. As it is, professional actors aren't even a guarantee of good voiceovers in video games - amateur actors found on the web have even less of a chance, going by unofficial fandubs I've heard for various anime on YouTube. It's best just to find a way to hack in subtitles (if they're not already there) and leave it at that.

I'm still impressed by the project, though, and wish them the best of luck.

These guys are really great. It's nice to see fans put such effort into a game. If only I had the courage to mod my Wii.

I've seen impressive voicework by internet filmmakers in the last few years. I expect a lot of their dub.

The translation itself is going to be released completely separately -- All new costumes, extra artwork, voicework and anything else will be separate downloads and 100% optional. Not only that, but you'll be able to enable/disable all the extras from the Wii itself.

Can you tell I've been following this as closely as possible? :P

I was a big fan of the series until the third installment and I realized that it's just the exact same game/story, just with different characters. Fatal Frame II is still my all time favorite survival horror video game.

Good to hear that the text/sub patch is going to be separate. Not that I hate dubs, I like them, but since it's almost finished it's going to be released first, right?
It'd be a tease if they released everything at once when one is already ready.

But, can't really complain since they're doing what Nintendo should have done by now.

Wow. It's cool that they're putting so much effort into it, but I would honestly prefer having the original voices with subtitles. The voice acting on dubs are usually horrible, and those actors get paid to do that shit.

I'm still holding out for a proper US release. The Wii is shaping up to be a pretty decent platform for horror.
