Fat Princess' online is bad, Sony says a fix is coming photo

I've been playing Fat Princess for our upcoming review, and I love it to bits. However, the numerous and time-consuming online issues, including connection failures, lag and crashes, are really dragging the game down, threatening to dramatically alter the title's score. Fortunately, Sony is looking into the problem, with a fix allegedly on the way.

Titan Studios says that it's "working with Sony now to get the patch into the Sony testing process as soon as possible." Hopefully it sorts everything out, because I'm getting sick and tired of staring at endless loading screens, or worse, getting thrown right out of the game and back into the PS3's XMB.

The issues I'm having were prevelant in the Fat Princess beta as well, so I really don't know why things were still this bad. The game is otherwise excellent, however, and if this patch works, I'd recommend it to anybody. In the meantime, $15 for an online game full of lag and no decent single-player is hard to justify.

I picked this up last night and got in a couple good games but had difficulty connecting the rest of the time. I was confused since we had just had FiOS installed. This explains the problems, I hope they sort it out cause the little bit I did get to play was lots of fun.

The few games I've been able to play online have been amazing amounts of fun. It's really too bad the game only connects around 25% of the time, and the fucking initial loading screen lasts 5 minutes.

Of course they say they're going to fix it. Though, if the problems have been prevalent throughout the beta, does it make sense that a patch will hit anytime soon?

These online failures are just getting more and more recent these days..
Please get your shit together before the game launches devs.

I have actually had very little trouble with the online play. I've had a few mindless loading screen stares only to be kicked back to the main menu but overall its been pretty decent, especially when playing the soccer gametype.

Sounds like the launch of castle crashers. Hopefully it won't take nearly as long to fix the problems.

i've definately noticed trouble connecting to games (its hit or miss somedays its perfect others i give up). But as far as lag goes i haven't had any trouble there and i've yet to be kicked out of a game. Still they need to get that fix out pronto i'm surprised it wasn't addressed before this. With all that said i'd still suggest it to just about anyone the bugs are annoying but haven't rendered it unplayable or any less fun for me

Can't remember a recent game launch that hasn't been plagued with on-line bugs.

I know it's hard to truly gauge how many people will be on your servers but seriously guys... you should at least try!

Only problem I have is to find and connect to a game, I get connected two or three out of ten times. Never experienced lag or any other problems once connected, except for when the host leaves the game and it tries to find another host, then it just disconnects and puts me in the games main screen.

What are the developers actually doing with beta tests? None of the issues in Beta were addressed. Why bother delaying the game in the first place if you didn't fix anything?

Why is online so difficult for bloody cartoon games? Why can't hyper violent cartoon death battle games be more stable to create?

Its not terribly bad. Like some one said up there. All you need to do is get connected and then its good to go.

I'm enjoying this game but it needs some serious Valve-level tweaking. Just about everything needs some polish including balance, targeting, AI, menu systems - everything. I'm still having fun but when your worker can't target a structure to fix or destroy it (or, when targeted, can't get your guy to do anything), there are problems.

Also, based on the rounds I've been playing, something needs to be done to keep 90% of the games from ending in a stalemate on the capture-the-princess levels. Swapping control over a few control points for 20 minutes can get pretty old.

Don't forget about the numerous left over bugs. Like the winning screen staying up the whole time for the next game or menu options overlaying other menu options.

Also why are all the MP games Capture the Princess only? Why can't anyone put up the Soccer match (badass btw), or any other options? There should be some sort of play list setting.

Right now it appears that only Sony official servers can host anything.

@Pacopaco You do realize when you mention Valve "tweaking" to PS3 owners it means doing nothing. No patches, Valve products to PS3 are not updated or supported.

I've had troubles as well. I find if you go to "Find Game" and filter your search, then it tends to be more successful getting on. I haven't found the soccer style yet? That sounds awesome!

As far as bugs go. Does anyone else find it trickier then it should be to feed the princess cake?
Other than that, this game is awesome! It made me cancel my Blockbuster "Gamer Pass"

I'm amazed some of these bugs are still in the final release. Like the one where it freezes the menu items over the top of the screen when entering and exiting some of the menus. I'd say it was extremely sloppy, but they clearly knew about these problems and must have thought it didn't matter to leave them in.

Poor showing. But the game still basically works and is a blast to play.

@GameraTheGreat That was EA, they went out of there way to attempt to help PS3 players, however EA never received any of the other major patches to TF2 or any other part of the game. Realistically the patch was to make up for the lack of effort on Valves side. So no they never did.

I was thinking it was a little sketchy that they announced the game was coming out one day before it came out, giving nobody a chance to review it before release. Like they were trying to trick me into buying it even though i have every intention to get it. Anyways ill wait a few days and hopefully the patch will smooth things out.

Very disappointed with the online in this game, I have only been able to play 2-3 games. Considering it had a BETA and a crap load of development time, this is ridiculous. Wish I had my $15 back until its fixed.

The only way that works for me is searching for any game, any mode and it'll let me connect within 1 or 2 tries.

Trying anything else - including joining a friend's game or altering search options and I'm treated to an endless loop of "connect to host" timeouts and mashing X to try again.

Yeah, I'm aware that Valve/EA hasn't done jack for the PS3 version of TF2. It pisses me off to no end (PC version kicks ass) but I'm still gonna stick with what I said. You can insert any other capable game-design company if you like, I just chose them since their games tend to be very polished.

There's a lot of other subtle stuff that Valve took into account when making TF2 (like using visuals/design/lighting to make characters easy to tell apart) that I'd love to see in a Fat Princess update.

The online performance is FUCKING UNACCEPTABLE.

I really hope you'll give them a chance to fix the problem before you let that happen.

I've had some lag, but I also have DSL in the middle of nowhere so I occasionally have issues with that anyway. I've just had trouble connecting about... meh, half the time. I've never had to give up getting an online game tho.

I've got a recent "gamer-convert" friend, who is using current gen for the first time since sticking to his nintendo roots, I've had to explain, and it's a shame i had to, that...

"Yeah a lot of online games usually take a few days to get their online up and running, it'll be working soon"

I should not have to say that! They knew full well how many people wanted to play this fat bitch, be prepared mother fuckers?!

I've got an idea, why don't you let us download it, say a week before "actual launch" let us play the training or something, then on launch day, you'll know how many people have it DL'd and how many you need to accomodate on the servers when you flick the switch.

Rather than the current idea of, "Flick the switch, fuck! it doesn't work, make all those people who paid money for the game wait a week or so while we sort it out."

Saying that, the games i've gotten into (persistent bastard me) have been fucking BRILLIANT! its a fucking awesome game and as soon as the online issues are sorted i'm gonna sink some serious hours in.

i'm glad a patch is on the way, but i'm getting really sick of having to wait for a patch or some other fix until games function like they should. Battlefield 1943, KOF XII, Fat Princess… just some recent examples. i freely admit my ignorance of the technical side of online gaming, i just wish i could buy a game on day 1 that works like it's supposed to.

Meh, I played this game single-player for about 3 hours the other night. It was entertaining for a while but has absolutely no depth and every round is the same.
Multiplayer might be fun for a while but I doubt it since there is no room for using actual tactics with 16 people per team, and every class seems to be about as powerful as every other.
I gotta say, I was disappointed.
