FarCry 2 receiving a 'hardcore mode,' as if malaria wasn't enough photo

Community outcry has its advantages. A Far Cry 2 community developer recently revealed and attributed an upcoming “hardcore mode” update to forum dwellers that feel as if Ubisoft’s shooter lacks realism in the multiplayer department. The update will include a new hardcore mode, stronger guns, and an ability to tweak respawn time.

Below is a snippet (the rest is after the break) of the rest of the enhancements:

  • All weapons have been rebalanced on normal mode, and on hardcore mode.
  • A new search option will be available in multiplayer to allow you to find games that are playing on hardcore mode.
  • Enemy names will disappear after the spawning invincibility period is over (A shield is displayed above a player’s head for a few second to show that he is invincible).
It’s unclear if this is downloadable content or not, but hardcore mode -- and its various balance tweaks -- will make its way to all platforms with Ubisoft’s “next round of patches.”

"The addition of a 'hardcore' setting, available in every game mode, will have many consequences," according to the community developer. Here's a list of those:

  • A new damage model will be applied with increased damage for all weapons.
  • All weapons have been rebalanced on normal mode, and on hardcore mode.
  • Enemy names will disappear after the spawning invincibility period is over (A shield is displayed above a player’s head for a few second to show that he is invincible).
  • A new option will allow you to tweak spawning time (but not spawning rate).
  • A new search option will be available in multiplayer to allow you to find games that are playing on hardcore mode.

I believe this is going to be a patch.
Far Cry 2 has a very very underrated multiplayer so this is good news. This game got lost in the shuffle amidst all the high profile winter releases.
What ISN'T good news is they continue to put out patches that don't include SINGLE PLAYER fixes.
Ubisoft, fix the fucking save game glitch already! It's been 3 months since the game came out! I just want to finish this fucking thing already, but I can't even load my game to do so.

I love Far Cry 2, it's multiplayer is fun as fuck once you get down the basics and realize you can base slide at 180 degree angles.

But one thing they need to fix, is the lack of matchmaking. Whenever I'm in a player match and a friend tries to join, 90% of the time he ends up on the opposing team. Which is no fun to us. This wouldn't be a problem if there was a fucking switch team button (its a player match goddamnit) but there isn't.

So, I'd really love to see them fix this shit so we don't have to find random games that are still sitting in the lobby (of which there is no way to tell.) but I guess this is cool too.

But shit, Single Player has some game ending bugs right now and they aren't even addressing the shit it seems. Ubisoft kind of blows as far as game support goes.

It sucks that every game that comes out needs patches and updates a million times before they actually work the way they're supposed to.

No Holyetheline, Far Cry 2 is a very well made and polished game with very few bugs.

Wasn't hardcore the level below infamous?

@gamadaya

FarCry2 polished!? few bugs? hah! to put simply, that game has issues, and this patch is not going to save it.

Woohoo! Thats what eveyone wants, another difficulty level! Who cares about the horrible matchmaking, the fact that its almost impossible to finish the single player without it freezing, and the dreadful save game/ enemy buddies/ unopenable doors glitches? None of that matters - we've got another difficulty level!

Seriously though, Ubisoft have been promising a patch since November... and it still hasn't appeared. What HAS appeared is 800msp of DLC - providing new maps for you to glitch out on, and new vehicles to freeze in!

It wouldn't matter so much if the game wasn't absolutely amazing (or rather, will be absolutely amazing when it actually works)
