Far Cry 4 devs talk divergent play, seamless co-op

3:45 PM on 08.20.2014

Far Cry 4 is all about affording players an open world that allows you to do cool murders in cool ways, like on elephants. This mini developer diary talks about giving players tools to tell their own stories through exciting things that just happen to happen.

Also, co-op now takes place in the main game world, seamlessly. When your friends come to join you, story-based missions are turned off, while co-op appropriate stuff stays on. When they bounce, it's back to story missions for you. If you're on PS3 or PS4, you can invite up to ten friends to the game, even if they don't own it themselves. So who am I bumming Far Cry 4 time off of?

Far Cry 4's Pagan Min teaches a man to scream for help, not text for help

Poor Pagan Min. He tries ruling his regime with a positive influence, but all those terrorists are there to just, ahem, "muck" it up. Maybe his tendencies to take hostages and implement electroshock torture aren't viewed by everyone as "positive," but it's tough to argue with such a snazzy dresser.more

This Far Cry 4 trailer is all about the elephants

Even when Far Cry 4 was officially nothing more than message-board rumors, I was all about the elephants. It's nice to see Ubisoft give the people want they want, then, by putting out a trailer that's devoted to these animal...more

Of course we checked out Far Cry 4's elephant booty physics at PAX

Prior to this video being shot, Max may have taken a double dose of the assorted pills that truckers use to drive 36 consecutive hours. I can't be sure. It wasn't my day to keep track of him. But, the point you should take away from this is how realistic that elephant's ass (probably) looks. With booty physics like that, it's no wonder Far Cry 4 ended up as one of our top games of PAX Prime.more

You aren't at PAX? Let Max Scoville give you the tour

PAX Prime 2014 is winding down, but that doesn't mean those of us at home can't pretend like we are there, stalking Max Scoville as he roams the show floor. I was going to give a detailed play-by-play of the video here, but ...more

Meet the Far Cry 4 villain's striking right-hand woman

Far Cry 4 is certainly shaping up to have quite a colorful cast, with the eccentric self-proclaimed king Pagan Min and now his newly-revealed second in command, Yuma. Yuma is a "deadly tactician" and acts as the general ...more

Far Cry 4 directors drew inspiration from Nepalese Civil War

Although the upcoming Ubisoft FPS is set in the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat, Far Cry 4's directors conducted extensive research on location in Nepal to both research flora and fauna and to interview those who had fou...more

Far Cry 4's take on Shangri-La sure is stunning

As someone who tended to stick with the bow as the weapon of choice in Far Cry 3 -- and especially in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon -- I like the look of the mythical Shangri-La in Far Cry 4. In these levels, you'll fight against ...more

How Far Cry 4 plans on making memorable missions

Think back on Far Cry 3. Reflect on all the memorable moments you had with that game. What sticks out the most? The missions or the unscripted stuff that happened in the open world? Chances are you primarily remember the unsc...more

Command a tiger that can turn invisible in Far Cry 4

Far Cry 3 had some pretty wild moments. Like, remember when Vaas was dancing around on the stripper pole? Good stuff. Far Cry 4 will have some crazy segments as well, but these are a little more grounded to the core of the ga...more

Sad day: Bungie nerfs Destiny's loot cave

Bungie's grand social shooter Destiny has boiled down to an interesting and repetitive formula for a lot of players lately: fire into the darkness of a cave and hope some interesting gear drops. No world exploring, no co...more

Not a lot looks changed in Call of Duty's 'Power Changes Everything' trailer

For a trailer that boldly suggests that "power changes everything," Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sure looks pretty similar to past installments in the franchise. I guess the guys jump higher before using their mega-de...more
