I really want to get this game, but Fallout 3 is taking up all my time right now. LittleBigPlanet is frustrating, I have to get Gears 2, The Last Remnant, and Mirror's Edge still. All these games come before Far Cry 2.
If the game didn't piss me off and hand me a game-breaking glitch at 58% complete, I would be happy for them. Nah, who am I kidding. It's still a great game. Just surprised it sold that many copies though, but I guess I'm not the only one who enjoys the thrill of hunting minorities down.
I hated it at first but Far Cry 2 has grown on me a little now. I do think the maps are a bit too big and the lack of any non-hostile NPCs outside of the few ceasefire zones is poo, as are topless/t-shirt wearing enemies who can take several shots to the chest. Pretty much all the complaints everyone else has had about it really. Oh, and auto save - would it have been asking too much?
Overall, I think it's a solid game, fun in short bursts that could have been much better.
I miss the silly sci-fi elements of the original far cry, but I still think number 2 is well worth it.
I liked it at first, but my happiness has been steadily shrinking. There's just so many bugs and problems that should not exist. Also the multiplayer refuses to work in any way for me.
I like the title, its taken a back burner recently with games like LBP, Resistance 2, and GOW 2 taking up most of my time, and with Mirrors Edge arriving today I probably won't get back to it for some time, but I will finish it and devote some time to the multiplayer as it was fun when I tried it.
When I went to Best Buy to purchase Fallout 3 I was surprised to find Far Cry 2. I thought it'd be a PC exclusive, consoles unable to handle it. Excited, I bought it instead of Fallout 3 (Bethesda's development cycle means I can get a bundle w/the two expansions a year or two from now). It's great fun and deserves these sales. Many of the traits shooters, FPSes, and sandbox games are meant to have this game possesses by different mechanics. My only complaint is saved games are organized by ingame time instead of real world newness, can't be deleted, and don't display data like total playtime so I may be sure which file I want to load.
Easily the most enjoyable and engrossing gaming experience I have had all year, truly awesome game :)
Is a million in three weeks across three platforms really all that impressive? Haven't other platform-exclusive titles sold a million on launch day before?
Loving this game. Taking it easy, enjoying the traveling and gunplay, very immersive, tons of fun. Glad it's doing well.
It's a great game. With a really good map editor. But I was really kinda surprised about the A.I. I didn't really feel like shooting everyone in one of those guard posts again so I decided to race through in my jeep. About a mile down the road I heard shooting. Turned around and saw the guys following me from all the way back. I shot the driver and ran off (car was burning and didn't want to repair it during a gunfight). The guy handling the mounted gun on the truck decided I was too far away and jumped behind the wheel. When I was in range (almost ran over) he must've though I was close enough to shoot me again with the mounted gun because he jumped behind the gun again. Decided to test him I ran off. He jumped behind the wheel and after that on the gun again. Until I shot him and the car.
The multi-player is something else. It felt a bit random. The first level I played was full of exploding barrels and propane tanks. If one of those barrels respawned I shot it and blew up half of the map. A bit too much fire and explosions. Not very realistic (compared to the rest of the game) but fun to play.
Takeshi convinced me to get the game and I'm sure as shit glad I did. The game is not without flaws, but damn it's fun as hell.
Also, collecting diamonds is like catching Pokeman. So addicting!
Indeed that too, running around with your GPS to spot those diamonds. Hell yeah. And the fire and explosions. Looks so sweet and it feels great when you burn a whole village down (no worries, only baddies in the towns). Like Shipero said to me. He was under heavy enemy fire when he shot a propane tank. Everything was ablaze and shooting slowly died out. Everybody was burned. That's great.
Also shoot the top of of one of those propane tanks. The most fun I've had in a FPS. They'll become unpredictable missiles. Watched one shoot into the air as unpredictable as they are it suddenly came down and exploded on my head. I was amazed. And dead.
If I can stop playing LBP and Resistance 2 long enough to focus on anything else, I will gladly pick it up. The problem is that the online components of both of those games are keeping me interested for so long that I've been ignoring everything else, lol. Which is good because it is saving me cash in the long run, I suppose.
I was personally underwhelmed with this one. They made everything so bland and brown and took out all the non-realistic things that made the original far cry games special
I'll go back to it after Fallout 3 and Gears 2
i dunno whats so great about this game...seems really boring to me, the only fun I get from it are the movie themed created maps and map editor...the story just seems gay and dull...and it's in such a boring setting too..why couldn't they fuckin leave it to those nice tropical islands or move it to japan
I miss Aeris :( She always sounded so sultry...
If you actually answer presiano numero dos por Veronica! I have no idea what she's saying but I just assume she's talking dirty to me.
Amazing sales all things considered. Probably won't pick it up unless it hits the bargain bin.
It had great graphics and it was fun setting things on fire, but that's all I really liked about it. I found it tedious and there wasn't very much to do, besides doing generic missions over and over and over, etc.
Sadly it's doing nothing more then sitting on my desk right now. But it sure does a good job of that at least.
WAY TOO MANY WHITE FOLKS IN AFRICA. Are we in South Africa or something? Anyways good to see that the devs are raking millions of dollars and keeping it for themselves to make more better games instead of helping out some poor starving african kid.
I somehow get the feeling some people wouldn't like it if everyone in FC2 were black.
It's decent I guess. I don't see how someone could think it's better than Crysis or especially Crysis Warhead though.
If they released a patch that meant that every time you cleared a Checkpoint, it stayed cleared for good, id give the game around a 9/10. The feeling of accomplisment for clearing the first few was pretty good, considering its just stuff to do on the way while traveling to wherever you need to go.
That feeling was stripped entirely and turned to pure anger and frustration when i realized i had to clear the fucking checkpoints every god damn time. There are certainly lots of interesting things to do in the game but having to kill the same guys over and over again just gets in the way. I cant play the game for more than 20 min or so.
@ MrSadistic - Did your save die at the dj intimidation mission too?? I fucking wish I had had more than 1 save... 23 hrs. gone. I'm going to get back to it from the beginning after gears2 and some others.
I kinda find Far cry 2 dull. Theres no real motivation for me. It feels wrong playing an FPS that doesn't have a solid structure.
Yikes, this game is absolute garbage.
I like it! Finished it last night and will play it again in a different play style. It suffers a little bit from "Assassin's Creed Syndrome" - a great engine and environment but missions that are way too repetitive to elevate it to excellent game status.
Why wouldn't you beef up the story and dramatic pacing if you have put so much work into the other parts of the game?
I was asked to save by the game as some sick joke, as when I reloaded that save from then on I would be instantly gunned down by a hail of bullets. What the hell? Not even a 'continue' screen from the end of the last mission, but just complete Baldur's Gate style death?
Also, I lost interest when my feat of exploration rewarded me with '1 of 221 diamond briefcases'. The other thing I hated about Assassin's Creed. I'm sure there must be someone who LOVES hunting down these fantastical lost trinkets, and the search for the final missing one must basically climax once he finally gets it be dammit all... the guy isn't me.
What do I think? I think it sucks. Ubisoft used gimmicks and bullshit trailers to sell a boring, stale, mediocre game with possibly the worst AI and voice acting EVER seen in a game. The story, forgettable. The graphics, Xbox 360 like. The characters, stupid, uninspiring and just all around forgettable just like the missions and storyline. Malaria and pulling bullets out of your leg with pliers? Just a gimmick that frustrate the player more than adding anything to the game.
Actually Far Cry 2 and Assassins Creed have a lot in common, they're both boring games that rely on you to repeat the same missions over and over and over. Since the game review web sites around the web are sellouts (PC Gamer, IGN, Gamespot) They gave this garbage 9/10 type scores. Shameful. This game gets a 5/10 from me.
