Fixing a product that has already reached the level of acclaim and sales that The Witcher has is certainly a noble task. This September, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition will hit store shelves with many new additions. Over 5000 lines of dialogue have been both rewritten and re-recorded, as well as 200 new dialogue animations to accompany the changes. There will be a new character differentiation system for NPCs, an “enhanced inventory” to assist with alchemy and even improved combat responsiveness.

The Witcher: Extended Edition
will come in two different forms. Owners of the game will receive the edition free of charge as downloadable content. New players will be able to purchase the game on store shelves in its “premium packaging.” The packaging includes a multilingual game disc, optional voice-overs and subtitles, strategy guide, sound track, map, and even a Making-of DVD. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.

I watched Extended Edition in action, and it looks just as great as the original game. Battle was much more fluid and features fewer clicks. I wasn’t able to get my hands on the new packaging, but I did get the opportunity to read a few shorts from Andrzej Sapkowski’s “The Last Wish” which heavily influences the game. I can’t say I’m impressed by the fiction, but at least the game appears to be running great.

Looks awesome. Since I never got the original edition I'll buy this the day it's out.

I'm still thinking my PC won't run it very well. Otherwise I'd be on-board.

They should have released this shit with the game in the first place. I think anyone who hasn't played it yet, should definitely wait for this version. But with Warhammer and Spore coming out, I highly doubt I ever play through the Witcher again. Make a sequel with some improvements already.

BAWWWWWWWWWWWW

"Make a sequel with some improvements already."

The game only came out last year. Releasing an "expansion" of sorts is perfectly fine for that time frame. Quit your crying.

Bought The Witcher late last year, and I'll probably be getting the Enhanced Edition too just because it's such an awesome game (unless they release a retail upgrade package they were considering). Also, I read The Last Wish and thought it was a very fun read. I would love for the novel series to be published in the US as well.

The problem with translating Sapkowski's prose is that he uses a very complex version of Polish, mixing archaic grammar and vocabulary with newer forms. It's really hard to convey in english.

Also, no offence but there's a lot of translators who are just genius at translating from english, but there are very few who are good at translating to english. You just don't need it, half of the world's fiction is written in english. Ok, I pulled the last number out of my ass, but you get my point, right?

I bought the original, didn't play it when I heard the Enhanced edition was in the works, but now I'm thinking about buying the EE at retail in case the multilingual options aren't in the DLC patch! Only Fallout 3 can keep me from frivolously spending away my disposable income now!
