Fan mods his iTouch, gets his own Pip-Boy 3000 photo

The Pip-Boy 3000 is by far one of the coolest gadgets I can imagine owning, and it's no surprise to me that some crafty guy with a little spare time on his hands might try to create the real thing. YouTube user larpcast uploaded a video (see after the jump) of a fully functional Pip-Boy, created using the one that came with the Amazon.com exclusive version of the game and an iTouch. Mix throughly and tah-dah, your very own Pip-Boy!

This guy ought to consider manufacturing these out of his basement -- I can imagine quite a few people might want to own one. All this talk has made me itchy to finish Fallout 3, which has been sitting pretty on my shelf for a while now, not to mention I haven't even touched any of the DLC yet. So much to play, so little time....

Pretty damn impressive - however, I hope he has a way of taking is iTouch out of that case, because I wouldn't want to have to drag around a Pip-Boy sized thingy everytime I go outside.

I love it. It had to take a pretty decent amount of work to make.

He needs to jailbreak his Touch. Why? Because of themes. Like this:

This one's mine. :3 The background is even animated, with a scanline going down the screen every few seconds. It's pretty neat, it's the only theme I use, and it comes with just about every icon in the game to use.

I don't know why, but it bothers me when people say "iTouch". It's the "iPod Touch".

That is a sweet iphone mod, but can he fit it in his pocket? I don't think so, I guess he's just gonna have to strap it on his arm, old school style.

Anybody here has a replica Pipboy clock from the collector's edtion? I was thinking of getting one, but people say that they keep getting faulty broken ones.

Pretty cool, but I'm more interested in Doomsday Forte's jailbroken theme. @ Doomsday Forte: awesome, simply awesome!

Sony's iTouch is crap. I'd rather use Apple's PodStatation!

@Doomsday Forte

the Facebook and Safari icons should be exchanged

Oh my, thanks. I, uh, didn't think it'd get that big of a response. There are plenty of themes out there, and there are four colorings of this one (green, blue, amber, white ala FO3), though I stuck with green for some reason. I wish I could say something like "I made this" but I was browsing stuff on Cydia and liked it, thus it stayed forever.

Monodi: The Safari one is by default, but I used the icon for Facebook as an oh-so-subtle hint of my feelings towards it. =P I wound up not changing the default icons for anything, though whether I will or not I dunno yet.

I would hardly call that thing "fully functional." It's just a series of static images displayed on the iPod Touch's screen.

Gladstone's right. It'd be "fully functional" if the dials and whatnot worked. It's still cool, in a Hallowe'en costume kind of way, but not really "fully functional." Not even really "functional".

I hate it when people call it the "iTouch". it sounds kind of stupid for a cool iPod. Even in WikiPedia it says that it is incorrectly called the "iTouch". Here is the exact quote: "The iPod Touch(trademarked and marketed as iPod touch, but sometimes incorrectly referred to as iTouch) is a personal digital assistant, portable media player, and Wi-Fi mobile platform designed and marketed by Apple Inc."
