Fan-made PSP concept causes instant pants-tenting photo

Although not a real, Sony PlayStation Portable concept, this artist's rendition brings about serious technolust.  It manages to hit all the marks of a sought-after consumer electronics product: it's thin, black, shiny, and has a huge screen. Oh, and it slides -- and people love sliding electronics.

This mock-up's functionality has been improved, too. There's the dual analog nubs we've been bitching about for years, and it also sports a PS button like the PS3.

Sony, do you want to win the portable gaming market? Call this guy, get this thing made, launch with Shadow of the Colossus II and Final Fantasy XVII Portable, and send Destructoid ten review models.

Check out the big, sexy, hi-res version in the gallery below.

First and this would win over the DS

I saw this last night on IGN and almost blew my load. This thing is sexy enough to get someone as anti-mobile gaming as myself to purchase one.

Also, agreed, Shadow of the Colossus 2 would be sweeeeeeeeeet.

Besides the fact that it looks top heavy and kind of hard to hold I do like the design of it. Sony should take notes.

Well it's a nice, rough design. But it needs some touching up. I can already see flaws in the design that would make playing uncomfortable and a little awkward. But it is very impressive for something a fan made, and Sony should take notes

It looks really nice, but I feel like the screen would get destroyed almost instantly.

Pretty looking but think of actually playing with the touchpad so near the bottom of the screen. Good theory just odn't know how well it would work in execution. Also needs more games.

Its very cool, but I'm wondering exactly how "portable" it is. The screen looks to big to throw in your pants or jacket pocket, that and it looks like it would be uncomftorable to hold for long periods of time. Maybe I'm nitpicking to much but this is definatly a step in a good direction for Sony to take a look at for their psp re-design. Note: making it slimmer is not a re-design. The coolest thing I saw were the "nubs" for the analog sticks, very cool. If this played ps2 games I would run out and get one in a second.

It's definitely hawt, but I'm with Aerox on this one. I prefer 'flip-open' over 'slide' functionality because it adds an extra level of protection for my precious screen.

Looks pretty cool but Corak had it right as it doesn't look like you can just toss it in your pocket.

Isn't it just a black iRIVER with analog?

I think it would increase sales, but not enough to stomp on the DS or anything close.

Wha, wait....

Can it fit in my pocket? Where are the R and L buttons?

either way you see it, the huge sliding screen is awesome!

Shoulder buttons on the side of the handheld are kind of creepy. Sexy look, but I think Sony could design a more functional sliding-screen handheld.

Would work as a portable movie device.
Playing looks awkward, and i can already see the scratches on the screen.

But, if you slap that sliding screen with a touch screen interface, I'd be all over it.

Maybe I'm too much of a DS fan, but I can only imagine that if they did that, people would complain that the screen moves around too much while they play.

Am I the only person who’s noticing that the D-pad and face buttons look huge in comparison to the analog nubs? Also, this thing doesn’t look like it would be very comfortable in the hands, but then again, we don’t have a view of the back. Either way, it’s still plenty sexy...but I still wouldn’t buy one, because I don’t play handheld games.

If you're introducing moving parts that can fail, why not make it a clamshell that covers the screen. Oh well what do I know, I don't make imaginary devices people go nuts over

It is very nice looking piece of tech...
My only problem is that it feels like the screen lacks serious protection and would get damaged something bad...

Maybe they should do something a little like the PC tablets... have a screen that starts facing down, flips so that you can play, and then folds back so that it's like it was before but the screen is facing up (like in the pic to the right)

The dual analog sticks make me want to touch myself. If they put that on ANY hand held, I would instantly cream my panties.

It looks ridiculous. The screen would get damaged/destroyed the very first time the owner was remotely careless.

The slider would wear out VERY quickly, as they tend to with slider phones.

The reason the clamshell design of the GBA SP and the DS is so successful is because it offers screen protection as well as portability. A big screen is nice if you don't get it at the cost of comfort.

Maybe they should have thought things through and come up with something more functional instead of ripping off iRiver?
iRiver gaming concept
