Fuck you Jaycobo, you cunt. Emotion is everything I love in games. As I guided a young man who risked everything to bring back the woman he loved, I felt on a base level this need to help him even if it meant killing these things.
Mario has no personality or charactertistics whatsoever, and judged as a character is completely awful. He is an empty shell you keep putting some sort of emotional weight into. If you honestly try to connect with Galaxy, there's something really wrong with you.

im not hating on the video here, but 99% of the uplifting feeling you get from watching this video is care of the music. its an amazing song and you could attach it to anything and it would make it seem like an emotional triumph.
Sigur Ros can make any video this heartwarming and uplifting. Hell, you could show a video from the holocaust with some Sigur Ros playing in the background, and even your jewish grandmother would be crying tears of joy at how wonderful the music made her feel.

@Indigo Dingo: What GoldenGamerXero said, no one here is saying SotC is shit, no one said Mario Galaxy or other mario games are far better than SotC, we are simply awed by how a mario fan managed to fantastically put together his feelings, nostalgia and admiration into a really touching video and it pisses us off that you seem irrationally bothered because it was a game other than the one you worship (to pathological levels it seems).

Cool little video. Didn't really hit me that hard as it did some of you, but that probably has more to do with how many times I've listened to that song (and in the context of a better edited Half Life 2 "trailer") on my own and how slightly jarring the audio editing was.
That aside though, it was pretty neat, and does make me want to play some Mario 'bout now.

It isn't about story. Because as much as I, like others, respect the series, there's not a damn bit of story there. And when you try to add story to a classic franchise like that, you get the piece of shit hedgehog games that sega has been pumping out lately (unless you completely change the formula, like the RPGs). It's meant to be a simple, fun-to-play game and nothing more.
These people aren't saying they were touched because of the "tragic" story of Mario saving the princess(Well, maybe one of them are). They are touched because Mario was such a big piece of their childhood. Because as they grew up, no matter how much their life changed and grew, the Mario franchise grew right along with them.
So when people see this video of Mario evolve, it reminds me, and others, of their own childhood and evolution. If you hadn't grown up with the franchise playing a noticeable part of your childhood, it's just another video. But to others, they see a sliver of their own lives flash before their eyes.

Sadly, I didn't grow up with Mario games. The only one I own is NSMB for the DS, which I got last year. I also literally JUST got Galaxy, so I have yet to open it. I'm dying for it to be tomorrow now so I can.
Even with a Marioless childhood, this still kinda made me want to cry. My boyfriend is an incredible Mario geek and I instantly think of him when I see so much as a mushroom growing in the ground. Some things just affect EVERYONE somehow.
