Fan-made Link's Awakening remake may not be vaporware photo

No matter how cool they may seem, it's always hard to get excited about fan-made Zelda games. Their creators are always faking their deaths or pulling some other wacky stunt to back out of their projects.

This 3D remake of Link's Awakening may be different. First we got a look at the game's overworld, and just a short time later we get screenshots of the game in action. At this rate, a playable demo is only a matter of time, and as I learned from being a part of the Mushroom Kingdom Fusion team, playability can quickly lead to project getting the help it needs to actually get finished.

I've wanted a new 3D cel-shaded Zelda game since I finished The Wind Waker, so despite looking a little rough in spots, this game has me pretty excited. Disgruntled, jealous Zelda-fans are sure to attack the game's team for creating something that isn't up to Nintendo standards, but if you ask me, such criticisms are poppycock. Creating a game with your own time and money, with absolutely no potential for personal profit, is the act of a true artist, and is something to be commended.

Carry on, Jerrel Dulay! I really hope you don't die before this game is finished.

Making games with no intention of making a personal profit? I think the last game I saw to do that was Cave Story since I remember the guy who made wanted to make something everyone can enjoy. And as of now, it's going to be part of WiiWare sometime soon, I believe.

To the topic at hand, it may not look the greatest but as long it is fun and enjoyable, that's all that matters.

Cell shading looks nice, but does this game *really* need be in 3D? If I want to play Windwaker, I'll play goddamn Windwaker. Leave my 2D classics alone.

lol, Nintendo's what now? Seriously, when was the last time Nintendo had standards. 2005 maybe? I'm more excited for this than whatever the hell Nintendo's new Wii Zelda is going to be.

Link's Awakening is probably my favorite Zelda of all, I really love all the shit you get involved around the island and how stupidly dramatic it becomes at the end.

I always liked the GB/GBC zelda games. One of my favourite Zelda games is actually Link's Awakening. I would DEFINITELY play a 3d version of Link's Awakening if it came out.

Link's Awakening is an amazing game, and will be completely ruined by locking on and first person views for hookshot. The games charm and silliness will be decimated in transition to 3D, mark my words. This won't be fun, it'll be a borefest. I can only hope this project does become vaporware, because it'll be more of an insult to it then what it is trying to accomplish.

lol @ haters

If you don't like it, don't play it. Why not fire up the old GB and pop in Link's Awakening, or if you're feeling particularly naughty, GBC+LADX?

It's not like this invalidates every bit of the original.

Clever ruse the creators did. By faking their deaths, Nintendo assumes that production of the game has stopped, and so creater lay low while for a while until an opportunity rises to show off their game. Can't have Nintendo send lawyer hitmen to kill off this game with a Cease and Desist.

Can anyone fill me what is all this stuff about the Mushroom Kingdom Fusion? Maybe sucks to be a Nintendo fan without knowing this.

@Doomsday Forte

I fell in love with this game playing the DX version, fuck you ):

Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is a fan-game that combines all sorts of 2D sprite universes (Mega Man, Mario, Sonic, Metal Slug, Ghosts N Goblins, etc) and puts them all in one game. It started off as a one man project, and is now a huge enterprise with at least fifteen people working on it pretty much non-stop.

I did the sprites and gameplay design for the Spartan Mario and Mega Man Mario suits, the first sprite for Proto Luigi, and that's it. I also did sprites and gameplay design for Akuma Mario (Akumario), but I don't think he's been put in the game yet.

Sadly, I haven't done anything for MKF since then. When I first got involved, there was no one else making original sprites for the project, so I felt like I was really essential. Now they have tons of spriters, which is a great thing, but it makes me feel a little less needed.

Yeah, it's kind like that, except less funny, and more humongous and weird.

Here's the game's site if you're curious.

@Naim Master

It is a fun game for being ridiculously cruel and sometimes extremely random obstacles. It is fun for what it is.

I see how it mocks Megaman on the beat the bosses located in hard levels mechanic but I don't find it offensive.

as for Links awakening, that is great, shamefully, i only started liking zelda on the snes, my nes years were drowned with megaman, contra, mario and adventure island, i really had no time to read.

I'd say that looks pretty fun. I'll keep on hoping it gets released :)

@ Analitic
That's alright, if you played those games on the NES instead of Zelda, I think it's safe to say you still had a pretty complete childhood!

hahaha, you know nothing of what you're talking about...see my point exactly,i remain dyslexic because my childhood was spent trying to avoid understanding what 'candle' meant in the first 5 minutes of Zelda... that makes me a complete retard, thats what it is!

Also spent my real childhood playing 2600 and MSX, which unfortunatly only exasperated the problem as all i had to do was listen to boing boing and follow a ball. Zelda was in my tweens...and remained retarded.
