Fan-created Brawl character Wisp is kind of a badass photo

Why create a Super Smash Bros Brawl character? Because you can. And if you're going to do that, you might as well make it the most overpowered character ever.

The Brawl hacking community has done just that with this new character, Wisp. Why Wisp? Why not? Here's what the creator of this character says on the topic:

Well, (s)he's a conglomerate of all things wisp-like. It's the Wisp from the Mana series, the Plasma Wisp from the Kirby series, even the Wisp unit from Warcraft III. Not to mention it also can be the wisp from just folklore in general.

It can change forms, too. Fire, Ice, Light, and Dark. Nifty, I guess, though I'm not a fan of changing games from their original form. I don't even do DLC costume changes. Still, this one is neat...and pretty. If you've got about nine minutes to spare, you can watch Wisp in action in a moveset demonstration after the jump. I'm not the best Brawl player, but doesn't this guy seem kind of strong?

Definitely cool. I imagine there'll be hundreds of fan-created characters soon. Most will look ugly. All will be broken as hell.

I wish the community would just pick like 5 characters and do them right. (comeoooon megaman)

Wow, the wisp is way too over powered.

Why Wisp? Because the the model is made up of numerous random scribble textures superimposed on one another. No effort was made at all.

Don't count on too many of these types of characters to show up. There's a reason why the character is ethereal: You can't really change the animations or character meshes. This is pretty much a stock SSBB FX running on top of an invisible jigglypuff, with the attack FX changed to other stock SSBB FX's as well as its properties. It's a jigglypuff clone with merely a bunch of settings tweaked.

I don't think he is overpowered, really... just his up-b attack is overpowered.

What Koehler83 and glandseck said. Although it still looks kinda cool.

Hey look we ripped some particle effects and sounds and made a cheap character that's not fun to play against. But let us justify it by saying it's from Kirby or something.

I dunno, I think of Navi when I see this thing. HEY! LISTEN!

I will never cease to be amazed at the amount of free time people have to do weird projects like this.

well I don't know if it's possible but they could take those assistant trophies and make some characters out of them....that would be cool.

also, what gladseck and koehler said.

You know, if they put this into getting a job in video games, they'd make a bomb.

Not sure how I feel about playing against a character when I can't tell whether they're coming or going. Wait. Yes I am: not thrilled.

It's still pretty cool that they tweaked something to this level. I'd love to see them try balancing the character to fit the game.

I had no idea people hacked this game to make new characters. I don't see the point.

That Up+B is ridiculous. I agree with Char-I thought Navi too when I first saw this.

First off: wisp is actually underpowered compared to the rest of the cast.

Second: I'd like to see any of you do better. Making actual characters in PSA at this point is very difficult, and compiling together particle effects is really the closest anyone has ever gotten to to making a new model. If you think this took ZOMG NO EFFORT, then let's see you make better.

Honestly, the amount of ignorance on destructoid when it comes to hacking is simply stunning.

(Double post because I can)

More specifically, Kohler, rockvillain, and glanseck:
You cannot hack. You will never hack. You don't know jack shit about hacking. Stop pretending you know how to hack. Stop pretending you know shit you don't. Because you don't.

Everyone saying he's overpowered:
Play the damn character first.

I swear to god, Destructiod is becoming more like /v/ each day.

@zpope:

It's for fun. Y'know, the entire reason why people play video games in the first place. Besides, this is technically the first entirely original hacked SSBB character ever, so it's obviously not going to be megaman.

I'd may or may not stand up and walk out on you.

But I don't feel like it.

Sweet, I got featured on Destructiod! Ignoring the negative comments, I just want to say the article is a little bias-inducing. Wisp is actually rather weak.

Still thinking my next console purchase may be another Wii... so I can hack it for Brawl +. But then, I'm a bit of an avid fan.

It should be like the Wisp from Knights in the Nightmare, and revive dead warriors to fight for it. Then it'd be worth playing as!

Okay i have two thoughts:
1. Oh crap Navi's mad from the navi abuse from the internet.
2. Damn that up-b looked like it was a final smash..
