Famitsu reveals Dead Rising for the Wii

3:03 AM on 07.16.2008, Hamza CTZ Aziz 60 comments

     wii

Here's the biggest bombshell of E3 2008 and it doesn't even have a thing to do with E3! The latest issue of Famitsu reveals that Dead Rising is coming out for the Nintendo Wii. Lots of people (especially Dale North) were expecting Capcom to reveal Dead Rising 2 today at their press conference, but instead got nothing but Lost Planet movie news.

I have no idea what the scans are saying, but there is one screenshot where Frank West is being grabbed by a zombie. The Wiimote comes on screen requiring you to shake the Wiimote to knock the zombie off, similar to Resident Evil 4 for the Wii.

And just to be sure, I just got off the phone with my Capcom contact and they have confirmed that Dead Rising is in fact coming out for the Wii.

[Thanks, Reaprar]

Doesn't look half bad but I'm not sure if I'de want to play through it again.
Depends on whether it's just a half assed port or brings something new to the table.

Hell, wouldn't it have been nice if Nintendo talked about things like this during their press conference?

Never played the original. I hope it's good, my Wii needs some love, specially after this E3.

So if they do a better job than Rockstar's Table Tennis port, we may get our first real look at how the Wii handles HD games.

kinda hard to get excited when I've already played the game to death and back, good times for nintendo owners though.

Lord The Night Knight: Good point. Dead Rising was more of an artistic than technical game though, but it the zombie crowds were definitely something people considered next-gen.

I would have expected a PC port or a PS3 port before this.

Dead Rising on the Wii, wow, I wonder how the achievements are gonna work(they where an integral part of the original) plus how they'll sneak in waggle, not to mention the sheer amount of zombies onscreen at once.

Its a big blow to microsoft because they didn't see this coming.
:p Its not an exclusive game anymore.

I just hope they don't reduce the graphics to much and try to compensate it with copious amounts of waggle.

dear Japanese companies: stop with the ports and just make with the sequels. thank you. that said, if this in no way impacts Dead Rising 2 coming out, then you guys have fun beating off zombies with your Wiimotes.

Pretty neat news. Zombie waggle is still zombie related, so I'm all for it.

Hopefully they address all the problems the 360 version had, since it was a great concept but very very poorly executed.

Oh my god, aiming is going to be so fucking much better now. Well, if they do it as good as they did it in RE4. This will definitely be worth picking up, even if I do already have it for the 360.

What the hell? Why would they not make this on PS3? Whatever, not like I was expecting exclusives to just start being made for Sony but it confuses me when companies go from 360 to the Wii. Makes very little sense to me.

Awesome stuff. It looks like companies are at least trying to bring exciting games to the Wii. Its a shame they just ported an old version instead making a new one from the ground up. But hey, beggars cant be choosers.

@ParaParaKing

What was "very poorly executed"? Sure, the text is hard to read on an SDTV, Otis could be annoying, some of the survivors can't fight their way out of a crowd of babies...but even still, I'm having a hell of a lot of fun with the game. Mini-chainsaws FTW.

That said, it'll be interesting to see how they port this. If they added content, maybe threw in a true free-roaming mode, I'd get it again.

Forgot to mention that it also gives me hope that DR2 is in the works. To put the effort into porting the game to the Wii and not be planning a sequel...doesn't make sense to me.

There's potential here is Capcom doesn't turn it into a waggle fest.

Given the superb job they did with RE4 and Zack and Wiki, I will give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

I never ever thought I would buy a Wii.... HOWEVER, If they have tweaked the save system in this version
then I shall be buying one just for this game.

I love the game on xbox360 but hate the save system (which means I get all excited to play it every few weeks and then after 2hrs put it away to gather dust again for some weeks).

I can't believe Nintendo didn't announce this at the conference... They NEEDED this. It's almost as big as FFXIII coming to the 360.

Why would they hold back with this?

I seriously doubt the Wii could handle a non-neutered dead rising. I need footage before I believe that it could work.
