Famitsu: Last Remnant is good, 38/40 score photo
     The Last Remnant

Square Enix's Last Remnant popped up out of nowhere some time ago, but it was just a name, with no story and hardly any visual content to connect to it. We didn't see or hear much of anything on the title until later this year. Finally, at TGS, we had a chance to play just a little bit of it. And we really liked what we were able to see. In fact, just a few days ago, we called it the "next big Square Enix console release."

Famitsu seems to be on the same page, scoring Last Remnant 38 out of 40 in the latest issue, says CVG. Scores broke down as 10/10/9/9, earning this RPG a Platinum Award.  Of course, Famitsu isn't the end-all in game reviews, so check back here soon for our review.

High Famitsu score or no, I'm still looking forward to the worldwide release on November 20th. How about you?

Hmm. I just assumed this game would suck like Infinite Undiscovery. I'll wait for a few more reviews.

I so want this to be good, I feel like it's bean way to long since I made it through a great JRPG.

I was loving lost odyessy until I got to disc 4 and the party is split up for hours at a time..why? I spend hours leveling up these people to have them split up for the equivilent of like 10 hours...I don't know if I can even go back.

The other big draw back I found was although the enemies looked incredible, there are only about 3 or four of them in a given battle area..so there is no suprise when the battles start..bad moves to an otherwise great game.

I hope the last remenant can avoid some of those mistakes and reminds of the Square of old.

Same score as Mario Galaxy? Wow. Gotta pick this up.

Too bad Famitsu has no grasp one what a "game" is. Anything that evens utters mention of Gundam gets an instant top-tier marks. I mean they gave Gundam: Crossfire 32/40, thats 32 more points than it deserves.

Anyway Famitsu effectively fails at scoring anything really.

And still they don't have a PS3 RELEASE DATE.

Yeah, Famitsu always rates S-E games much higher than they often deserve.

That said, since the game is only $40 on Amazon I still ordered it. I feel the need to support S-E doing something original instead of just pumping out more FF or DQ copy pasta.

@Gen Eric Gui

It's $40 on Amazon? Where? I think you may be mixing this up with Infinite Undiscovery.

Yeah this game is looking sexy. I probably won't be picking it up for a while though.

I'm really excited for this game. Sometimes I just get grabbed by the character designs/artwork, and that attracts me enough to buy the games. That's how I discovered both Kingdom Hearts and Shadow of the Colossus.

Really glad I did the $40 Amazon pre-order :)

@DirtyHobo

On Nov. 11th, Amazon dropped it down to $40 temporarily. It went back up to $56 yesterday.

Shit I forgot this is coming out so soon. Since there's so many other games coming out I think I'll wait for the PS3 version... whenever that's coming out...

@ Drack48

I feel the same way... I made it to the fourth disk and the last boss but gave up cuz it was sooooooo boring.

@ ANYONE:

I have yet to find an RPG or JRPG that has characters change armor and reflect the change on the "in game" character. Has anyone found a game like this?

I'm looking for something along the lines of Final Fantasy or Lost Odyssey with an armor changing deal like Oblivion, Fallout, or (hate to mention it) Two Worlds?

Im really basically waiting for Baulders gate 3.

I have all 3 systems (PS3, Wii, and Xbox360) so it doesn't matter which system just a game I can get lost in...

PS. And dont mention games that change armor by level or time... I want armor changing when I get enough money to buy that said piece of armor.

Thanks in Advance.

While im on this note.. Does anyone know why they don't already have a game like this? And on that note I JUST copywrite'd the idea. 8>P

I'll be waiting for the PS3 version. The notion of not buying a Square game at launch is already killing me from deep within my gooey insides. I preferr not to support the 360 when I can though, and I'll already be caving on that 360 exclusive 4th Star Ocean. I'm glad that I keep hearing good things about Remnant though. It makes me so glad when original IPs turn out well.

Still just looks like an HD Final Fantasy to me...of course if the scores are consistent with Famitsu's then I'll have to rent it to judge for myself...

GooN: Vandal Hearts 2 does that. Although I don't really see why it would be so incredibly important.

DirtyHobo: I thought the deal was permanent. They were offering a $20 discount on the game if you pre-ordered it the other day, which I did.

@Goon Baldur's Gate 3 is just Dragon Age: Origins without the DnD license.

Well fuck me for not paying attention on preorder prices. Damn, that kinda turns me off from buying the game now, I was kinda skeptical about it but now that I know I could've gotten it 20 dollars cheaper I'm having even more hesitation before dropping money on this game.

Famitsu sucks. But if this is actually good I'll get it for PS3 because of Johnny Yong Bosch.

It looks like the 20 bucks off was for IU not for LR

Got 20 bucks off Infinite when ya buy Last... I still think Last Remnant will be a great game worthy of any JRPG lovers attention.

From videos I have seen, the battles are so mared by technical issues that I find it hard to forgive it. ZOE2 has some of those same issues, but that game was relatively short (and awesome).

The art style looks like every other jRPG not named Persona or TWEWY, as well.

Hoderi: My pre-order receipt from Amazon for Last Remnant says $39.99, paid in full. The deal was on Last Remnant. It was a one-day deal.

Wow. I'm glad I got in on the preorder with Amazon. I wasn't sure if it was going to be good, but with this review I'm pleased with my purchase. Now I'm off to stalk the UPS guy.

damn wasn't aware there was a delay on the ps3 version. Kinda makes me wish square enix stayed exclusive then i wouldn't have to wait for this type of ish. Then again i guess it really doesn't matter i've got more than enough games to play right now so whether i pick this up when it does eventually release is to be seen.
