Just like it always has, Family Guy has both good and bad episodes.

That episode was easily one of the best Family Guys of the last few years....right next to the Long John Peter episode.
I've only caught maybe two or three Family Guy episodes in the last several years, and it definitely isn't as funny as it once was. That said, I did enjoy the episode where Stewie and Brian went back in time to the first episode.

I think I'm done with Family Guy. Characters are now just excessively cruel and violent instead of merely being socially awkward. Out-of-place soapbox commentary born from McFarlane's suddenly inflated ego just drove me up a wall.
But hey, at least American Dad is still really good, somehow. Maybe it's because its different set of writers have a touch less ADD or know what pacing is.

I get a weird feeling he'd be pissy about being called that, but that's probably because I can't stand the guy because he seems so full of himself all the time.
As for Family Guy: MacFarland said fairly recently he wishes he could end it and do a movie every few years. Is issue with it is the fan base is still to big and he doesn't want the 300 people who work on the show out on their asses. The fan part is take it or leave it, I sense thats mostly Fox talking then really him saying much, I think he'd end it if he really could. But the part about the 300 people under him is respectable enough.
As for the show.. Its okay I guess, not as funny as it was many years ago, but what are you going to do in a world where similar shows like the Simpsons and the Simpson's are almost 23 and 15 respectively, and the much funnier Futurama is about the same age, with a similar history of being canceled and revived on fan interest?
Besides, something tells me I'd rather have this instead of some of the other crap Fox could be shoveling at us.

I hated the early seasons of family guy, didnt laugh at any of the cut-away gags and generally found it a pity. But ive started to watch the newer seasons and i actually really enjoy them...
Family Guy is pretty hit or miss for me. Some episodes are really funny, some are just cool (like the recent one where Brian, Peter, Quagmire, and Joe all wake up with amnesia as the last people on Earth) and then there are the others that have no real redeeming features.
I do find that they seem to be relying on shock value a bit much lately though.

Man, it seems like its become cool to hate on popular shows. Its true, they won't always be able to give us the high level of entertainment they pulled us in with but maybe we're expecting too much. I just know that while I agree shows like Family Guy and The Walking Dead don't always seem to deliver what I want from them, I'm invested and will keep watching them both.
I will have to say though, Back to the Pilot was a great episode...but I don't expect that again every week. They're just nice surprises when they do come.
