Familiar faces grace cover of THQ's WWE Legends of WrestleMania photo

Now I know a lot of you guys shut down when we talk about wrestling videogames. I've heard it all before, including the revelation that wrestling isn't "real" and that it used to be cooler back in the day when you used to walk uphill to school, barefoot in the snow.

Well, this might be of some interesting to you -- THQ has revealed the cover for their upcoming wrestling title WWE Legends of WrestleMania, and you may see some faces you'll recognize. Likeness of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and The Rock will all grace the cover of the upcoming title when it launches next year. Additionally, managers and big personalities Bobby Heenan and "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart are also featured prominently.

Honestly, I don't know too much about the game itself just yet (in fact, I hadn't seen any screenshots myself, so I've included some "old" ones in the gallery), but the names alone have my attention. The game will feature over 40 legends from the 80s and 90s era of wrestling, and the game's presentation will apparently remain authentic to the telecasts of the eras.

Prepare yourselves -- say your prayers and eat your vitamins, brother. WWE Legends of WrestleMania is set to ship next spring for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Whoa those guys look like they had a "Let's so who look the gay and stupidest" contest!

It's supposed to run on the same engine they use for the Smackdown! vs. Raw series with a "simplified" control scheme supposedly. Just by looking at some of these screens I can tell they just recycled most of the animation from Smackdown! vs. Raw as well. I really wouldn't expect much from this.

AKI (now known as syn Sophia inc.) is still the king of wrestling games, with Spike following closely behind.

I watched WWF when they were at peak popularity in the late '90s, and I just recently picked up and read Have A Nice Day and Foley Is Good by Mick Foley, so I've kind of been on a wrestling trip lately. Busted out my copy of Attitude in the N64 and messed around a little. I'm tentatively looking forward to this game in my current frame of mind.

It's weird to see that retconned WWF logo in the image above.

No SD "Special Delivery" Jones, no buy. Actually, I can't see myself buying a WWE/F game that doesn't contain Mick Foley. That is a crime.

I'm just hoping that it's good. I didn't mind the SVR 2008 engine and if it includes a half decent career mode and creater a wrestler for unincluded legends, then I'd consider picking it up.

Ugh. The Legends of Wrestling series is so awful.

@ MrSadistic

What does Legends of Wrestling have to do with this? Similar name, but that's it. Acclaim made those games, and this isn't one of them.

As long as Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka is on the roster, I'm content. Honorable mention to the Macho Man. The guy could really work a microphone.. Oh Yeah!

Well if THQ didn't buy the series off, I'll be surprised as the box art/title/concept sounds just like a "Legends" title.

Macho Man will most likely not be in this game either. He's not on good terms with Vince McMahon, like Ultimate Warrior, so he's got almost no chance of being in this game unless Vince allows it.

Owen Hart will also not be in most likely due to his wife still being angry with the WWE for her husband's death.

Chris Benoit...well, no need to mention that.

THQ didn't have to buy it since it's not the same title, besides Acclaim went bankrupt so they're not really an issue anymore.

Outdated mechanics, stale gameplay, and yet here I am actually looking forward to using Hulk Hogan's corny special move, the leg drop.

Seriously, doesn't everyone do a leg drop?

Real Taxicab Confession: I own Smackdown vs. Raw 2007...just so I can have The Great Muta lay the smack down on today's "hottest WWE stars". THQ very noticeably stripped down the customization features, though. I doubt I'm going back for more.

I've actually been looking for a decent wrestling game. I'm probably the only wrestling fan in my group of friends and I'd probably denote myself as a "former" fan (haven't watched regularly in years, kinda fell out of it once ECW got swallowed up by the WWE). Any recommendations?

Acclaim went bankrupt in 2004, around the same time they released Showdown: Legends of Wrestling. So that Acclaim no longer exists.

Though since then, in 2006, someone did buy the rights to the Acclaim name and logo, but so far just does MMO styled games online.

Ultimate Warrior has no chance of being in this game. Vince McMahon hates Warrior, and Warrior hate him right back along with anything pretty much having to do with WWE.

Hogan never had that much hair in the 80's, immersion ruined.

And fuck you Neonie, don't diss some of the all time greats.
