Fallout: New Vegas gets loads of preorder bonuses photo

Looks like Activision isn't the only company that can enjoy absurd exclusive preorder bonuses. It would appear that Fallout: New Vegas is following in the footsteps of War for Cybertron, offering as it does not one, not two, not three, but four pre-order bonuses, all available exclusively through different retailers. Classy.

A pick n' mix of DLC will be available, and the actual content will depend on whether you order from GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy or Walmart/Steam. In-game items, unique armor and special weapons are all on the cards. Here's the full rundown of what you get.

  • GameStop: Armored Vault 13 Suit, Vault 13 canteen, Weathered 10mm Pistol, 5 Stimpacks
  • Amazon: Tribal Raiding Armor, Broad Machete, 5 Bleak Venom Doses, 10 Throwing Spears
  • Steam/Walmart: Lightweight Leather Armor, Sturdy Caravan Shotgun, 4 Repair Kits, Binoculars
  • Best Buy: Lightweight Metal Armor, Mercenary's Grenade Rifle, 3 Super Stimpacks, 3 Doctors Bags

I'm quite looking forward to checking New Vegas out, but these ridiculous preorder shenanigans are really starting to piss me off. How about you? Are you annoyed by these silly exclusives, or are you willing to overlook it in the case of a Fallout game? Either way, you can hit the jump for a more details rundown of the items!

We’re pleased to announce Fallout: New Vegas digital pre-order packs are now available in North America through participating retailers and will be available worldwide soon. The Classic, Tribal, Caravan, and Mercenary packs each contain in-game items offered exclusively through  GameStop, Amazon, Steam, Walmart and Best Buy.

The Classic Pack, available when you pre-order through GameStop, contains:

·         Armored Vault 13 Suit - Extensively patched up and dotted with piecemeal armor, this outfit is an homage to the classic ending of the original Fallout.

·         Vault 13 Canteen - This handy device is useful for staving off dehydration and providing a small amount of healing in the Mojave Wasteland.

·         Weathered 10mm Pistol - A well-worn 10mm pistol that packs an extra punch despite its modest size.

·         5 Stimpaks - Food and water are good for long-term healing, but when the fighting is fierce, Stimpaks help keep Wastelanders upright.

The Tribal Pack, available when you pre-order through Amazon, contains:

·         Tribal Raiding Armor - Pieced together from scraps of armor, this outfit provides protection without impacting mobility.

·         Broad Machete - This heavy-bladed melee weapon does high damage against limbs and can quickly deal out a flurry of attacks.

·          5 Bleak Venom doses - Useful on any Melee Weapon, Bleak Venom makes short of work of most living targets.

·         10 Throwing Spears - If you would like to silently pin an enemy's head to a wall, Throwing Spears are the way to do it.

The Caravan Pack, available when you pre-order through Steam and Walmart, contains:

·         Lightweight Leather Armor - This hand-modified suit of leather armor reduces its overall weight without impacting its ability to protect.

·         Sturdy Caravan Shotgun - Despite its rough appearance, this Caravan Shotgun will reliably fire 20 gauge shells until the Brahmin come home.

·          4 Repair Kits - Useful for repairing any outfit or weapon, Repair Kits are a valuable tool for any caravaner.

·         Binoculars – The Mojave Wasteland is a dangerous place, but with these trusty Binoculars you’ll be able to spot trouble coming.

The Mercenary Pack, available when you pre-order through Best Buy, contains:

·         Lightweight Metal Armor - Modified for long-range travel, this Metal Armor sacrifices some protection for mobility and overall weight.

·         Mercenary’s Grenade Rifle - Though similar to other 40mm Grenade Rifles in the Mojave Wasteland, this model has a faster reload cycle.

·         3 Super Stimpaks - When you absolutely, positively, need to keep your blood inside your body, Super Stimpaks fix you up in no time.

·         3 Doctors Bags - Mercenaries and broken limbs go together like Iguana-on-a-Stick and Nuka Cola.  Thankfully, these Doctors Bags take a bit of sting out of the inevitable crushed skull.

Fallout: New Vegas is the follow-up to Fallout® 3 – the 2008 Game of the Year – and brings this beloved franchise to a location only Fallout could do justice: Vegas. Fallout: New Vegas takes all the action, humor and post-apocalyptic grime and grit of this legendary series, and raises the stakes. Published by Bethesda Softworks, Fallout: New Vegas is slated for a Fall 2010 release.

I agree it's annoying regardless of the game. I'll still get the game when it comes out but it's absurd with these pre-order bonuses that are different with each store.

Well, they gotta do something I guess. I understand the argument for these pre-order bonuses, but at the same time, all this stuff needs to be made available to everyone after a certain amount of time.

As long as you can find the other preorder items in the game world im not complaining, its when they only let you have 1 exclusive item from each shop is when i get pissed. Actualy in general I hate when certian consels get dlc early because micro$hit make sure ps3 and pc wait another month for already finished content.

I think exclusive dlc are very unfair to gamers. I would be more ok with this if all 4 dlc come with preorder anywhere n the extra contents can be purchased. I understand the "we want you to buy new" reasoning behind preorder bonuses, but where I buy the damn game shouldn't affect the game itself.

These are pointless. I skipped to the list when I saw the heading and thought HOLY SHIT Armored Vault clothes IRL?!?! Half the time in Fallout3 I didn't pick the cool or high defense clothing. I picked the stuff that looked cool. I wore a hoodie for 85% of the game.

Pointless bonus is pointless.

I wish there had been more like 19 pre-order bonuses, just so you would have had to keep going with the "not one, not two, not three..." thing.

Ugh, this is so annoying. Seriously. Why can't there be one cool preorder bonus and it's shared by everyone and WE get to choose where we want to get the game from.

I don't see the point of complaining over this particular example. These items don't look like anything spectacular, just something to give a little boost at the beginning. I'm sure they'll be used up/replaced pretty fast.

This is much better than when one outlet has a clearly superior pre-order offer, one that does haven an actual impact on the game. That's the kind that I don't like to see. This offer, however, is no big deal.

It's a bummer because you know that when it's all said and done, you'll just NEVERF have access to those costumes/weapons. Which is a bunch of bullshit in my opinion. I think all pre-order bonuses should go free after like 4 months or something because it may not really impact my overall game experience to not have one or two items that are locked on disk, but let me tell you that I think I speak for everyone who plays games: It's fucking annoying to be locked out of shit that you already paid for.

Personally? i'm trying not to support this bullshit as much as possible, because it seems to just be going ridiculously out of hand.

Glad you guys on destructoid are pointing out how fucking stupid this is whenever a new pre-order deal comes out. SOMEBODY in the games media has to speak up and let devs know that they're just alienating fans whenever they make shitty decisions like this.

First retailer to throw in a bobblehead or a complete set of poker chips gets the sale. Fuck these bullshit "items" though, what the fuck does anyone care if they get 5 extra stimpacks or 10 extra spears? Get the fuck out of here, this shit is useless.

The only preorder incentive I'd go for would be reassurance that the game wouldn't start becoming awfully prone to frequent crashing after 20+ hours into the adventure. Even as it stands, digital in-game goods don't exactly act well as tempting pre-order bonuses.

I'm fairly sure stimpaks, repair kits, and binoculars can be found even within the game and if pre-ordering is the only way to get a hold of a weathered 10mm pistol, then so be it. I suppose the rest of us just have to grit our teeth and make do with an ordinary 10mm one.

Honestly, none of these matter. I could have no pre-order bonus and my game would almost the same.

They're essentially tiny useless items that you'll stop using maybe an hour into the game.

And if you play on PC, you'll mod them in.

Seriously, griping over these little tiny things isn't worth it.

On a more serious notes, I agree with one of the comments above: this shit needs to be made a free download like three months after the game launches. Granted the pre-order stuff will probably get replaced after level eight or so, it would still be nice to have.

It's annoying, sure, but it's also a smart move -- on the part of the various retailers. If someone wants a game, and wants to preorder it, and has an option (as I do) of preordering from, say, Amazon, Bestbuy, or GS, the right preorder package will obviously sway them.

Me, I preordered from GS awhile back, and since I preordered the CE, I'm not screwing with it. I dig the idea of the Vault 13 stuff anyhow, so I'm cool with it.

The stupid thing is that it's a Fallout game, which means people are going to buy it, regardless of this preorder nonsense attached to it. This is getting ridicules. And why not cool Power Armor instead? If you're going to do it... do it right

I hope that this isn't the future of 'preorder bonuses.' That stuff is just a bunch of trash. There is no incentive to buy any of them. Wow, 5 extra stimpacks... nice. I was using those things like they were candy if Fallout I was finding so many of them. Oh and don't forget those sweet armours that you can get. They'll look great languishing in your inventory once you've replaced them with the first thing you find five minutes into the game. What are they going to do next? I can see the next Mario game. They give you one free starman to use at the beginning of level 1-1... but only if you preorder from Gamestop.

Any exclusive is vestigial if not included in the main body of the game. But then I'm ideologically opposed to these gaming aftermarket parts. It's like buying extra sentences or chapters for a book. Sure, these people have to make money somehow, what with silly production costs and all, but it still drives me mental. It creates too much tension between the worlds of "games are art" and "games are published by cashwhores in suits".

Wait...these items are most likely already in the game, even if its not in the gameworld itself, so chances are someone could just find the item codes for these weapons so people can just spawn them.

If its actually something you have to download, as everybody else is most likely saying, people can just pirate it.

I 'highly' doubt these are actual 'exclusive' bonuses and closer to just early access bonuses.

All that stuff sounds 'wayyyyyyyyy' too normal to get ONLY through a pre-order bonus.

I'd bet even the Gamestop pack is achieveable in game... I mean, the whole game is set in new vegas, wouldn't it be like, idiotic to NOT allow the players to visit vault 13??

Considering you know, the limitations between older games and this one are dramatically different, I imagine New Vegas might give us the opportunity to go visit the original vault in first person. :P

Why? Who would care even a little bit about getting some extra items at the start of the game? I suppose the bright side is that these bonuses are so nothing you don't even get a little twinge of regret for not getting them.

I'm going to wager that these bonuses will be included as a mod file. If so it'll be a matter of minutes before someone has them all rapidshare'd together for easy download. If not, it'll be a day until the modding community has them all out in the open for download.

Bluemeep is almost certainly correct.

In any case, I never give a damn about pre-order bonuses because they're never any good. Normally its a couple of cool looking items that at best give you a slight head-start, and will be replaced just as any gun you find in the first hour or so anyway.
