Fallout 3 release canceled in India 'in light of cultural sensitivities' photo

Our hearts goes out to many gamers in India who will never have a chance to play Bethesda's Fallout 3. Microsoft, who were set to exclusively distribute the title in India for the Xbox 360, has announced that the game will not be released in that territory.

"Microsoft constantly endeavors to bring the best games to Indian consumers in sync with their international release," said Microsoft India in a statement. "However, in light of cultural sensitivities in India, we have made the business decision to not bring Fallout 3 into the country."

When contacted, Bethesda wouldn't comment on the situation, and Microsoft's "cultural sensitivities" statement is broad, so we'll allow you to draw your own conclusions. To help you do so, we'd like to direct you to the above image of part of Fallout 3's wildlife, an irradiated, two-headed brahman cow. (For the record, two-headed brahman meat is tasty, but whether the +3 Rads is worth the +10 HP is entirely up to you.)

Oh yeah, that makes sense now -- after I've looked at the header image. That shit would not fly with devout Hindus.

Luckily, I don't give a damn about religion, and I live in America!

Who knows.
What with LBP being recalled due to that oh so offensive song I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Microsoft and/or Bethesda decided to pull it in order to avoid a similar ordeal involving those that practice Hinduism.

Though wouldn't a two headed sacred cow be TWICE as holy?

A shame, as you'll never see the headline "Indian immigrants in America wear deodorant 'in light of cultural sensitivities'".

I think it has to do with India bordering Pakistan, both countries are nuclear powers, they hate each other, and Pakistan is a couple heartbeats away from a nuclear power descending into chaos which scares the hell out of that region. So the prospect of a post nuclear war world might be upsetting.

But i could be wrong

India is pretty strict about media content, as far as I'm aware. There's still a taboo about kissing in Bollywood films, for instance.

While I can understand the reasoning for cultural sensitivities, I was always a believer in "If ya don't like it don't buy it". People need to get out of their bubble and realize that its not all about them and their "beliefs".

I hope this doesn't start a chain reaction towards the censoring of video games. Two huge games released this month being Delayed/Canceled due to cultural sensitivities. I'm sure they're going to ban Call of Duty in Japan because you're killing them [/sarcasm].

Here's how India can get over its cultural sensitivities;

1. Learn not to kill the (FAKE) cow.

2. Replay a message going, "YOU'RE GOING TO BE NUKED BY PAKISTAN, BUT DON'T WORRY, YOUR COUNTRY IS GOING TO DO THE SAME TO THEM" until viewer is desensitized.
