Not long ago, Bethesda hinted at what was in store for Fallout 3's future in terms of downloadable content, and already the company is throwing out more juicy details our way.
IGN interviewed Fallout 3's lead producer Jeff Gardiner about the three upcoming DLC packs, and you'd be surprised at how much was divulged. The first pack, Operation: Anchorage, has you fighting your way into a Chinese base while inside a computer simulation a la Tranquility Lane. It'll be out in January for 800 Microsoft Points.
Operation: Anchorage will include a new perk, "Covert Ops," and is said to take between four and five hours to complete. Additionally, if you opt to purchase this pack, it can be accessed via a quest marker on your in-game map.
You asked for it, and now Bethesda is going to deliver: the third piece of DLC, Broken Steel, will not only raise the game's level cap, but it will also bring "new foes, perks, and all of the other Fallout 3 staples" along with it.
Perhaps the most excited news to come out of this interview, however, is the fact that players will be allowed to "continue on after the main quest ends in the Broken Steel DLC." For anyone who's beaten Fallout 3, this should be music to your ears.
Guess I'll have to Goozex the 360 version.
Guess I'll just pie-rat the PC version.
Yeah, no love for the PS3 version..
@awesomeToph
still waiting for that G*ddamn patch to make it playable too..
Considering mods on PC have already removed the level cap within days of release and allowed continued play after completing the main quest I don't see why this couldn't have been patched in for all versions. What people wanted according to feedback? I find it hard to believe Bethesda weren't well aware of the feedback they would receive while still in development.
How do you extend/complete the main story with the expansions when (Spoilers!) you fucking die at the end of the game? (end spoilers)
Thats the worst spoiler prevention tactic ever, especially given how big of a goddamned spoiler it is...
At least this post will get that spoiler off the front page...
I agree. Spoiling Fallout by telling everyone that the end of the game has...
Ah... had you goin' there... Just for a second.
@Timmeh
Considering that most people beat the game by around the time you hit level 20, I saw no problem with this. Also considering that I'd picked up Fawkes shortly after hitting level 20, combat would've become tiring and laborious if I had to fight off Fawkes for my XP for my kills. She's already cost me a few hundred caps in lost fingers of evil characters for my Lawbringer stuff.
you just load up your last save before you finished the main quest?
@joe
there are multiple endings..and the ending doesn't even matter just reload up your last save and explore / side quest all you want.
what I think sucks is that after I beat it I went back and explored everywhere and killed so many guys but since I was at 20 already I got no EXP. so now that they finally raise the cap.. all that killing was for nothing.. they should have kept track of my EXP so when it is raised I level up as I should have. why have a level cap in an open ended game.. it makes no sense at all.
Still waiting for the magical patch that unbreaks the game before I even consider DLC at this point.
Damn straight - why throw good money after bad - the game is virtually unplayable on the 360
Im just looking forward to new locations big and small as im still finding new stuff (i dont use guides so i trawl the wastes). The best part of oblivion was the cheap minor locations that they had every few weeks.
Now to add more stuff to my house having just realised, having redone the intro, that you can pick stuff up now using the right stick not just drop them which if i go back and find in Oblivion as well im gonna go nuts!
Also, HOW ABOUT NO SHITTY ENDING PATCH? My god that was complete garbage, one of the worst endings I've ever been privy to.
also,
Is the game really horribly buggy on the 360 or something? I've played it on PS3 and PC and had no problems at all except it crashes every now and then on PC.
!!POSSIBLE SPOIL'ANS BELOW!!
*fade in from white with Elder Lyons hovering over you*
"Thank goodness you've finally awoken! You've been in a coma for weeks since Sarah forced the door of the purifier and dragged you to safety. Alas, her actions have cost her dearly and she too is unconscious and on her death bed. I need you to undertake a long and contrived quest for a special piece of medical equipment to heal her. Then we can talk about you joining the Brotherhood..."
Was that so hard? I'm mostly annoyed that I have to wait until Spring until I can actually continue playing with my main character.
...Also, I liked the ending. It needed to be a fuckton longer, detailing the aftermath of my exploits, but I honestly enjoyed what was there. My disappointment was in there not being enough of it.
There's even one to make Dogmeat invincible, which relieves the stress of there being no command for "Don't fucking attack everything in sight!"
I'm definitely interested in this DLC. All of it will probably be worth picking up, but I'm especially looking forward to raising the level cap and continuing after the main quest.
"setgs imaxcharacterlevel 40" in the console to upgrade your level cap to 40 (you can write the number you want). I'm actually now level 23, trying to finish every quest in the wasteland :-). Oh and this only works for 'good' games. Being evil crashes the game or something...
SPOILER ALERT
YOU DONT HAVE TO DIE!!!! I dont know why everyone says you have to die? Send the bitch in and continue on with the story when the DLC comes out. Although I am VERY EVIL because in a world that is decimated by nuke fallout, Im not shaking hands... Im shaking faces with the Terrible Shotgun.
Also I didnt like that I couldnt get all the bobbleheads since I blew up Megaton but whatever.
Im only missing the speech and 20 bobblehead achievements so I think I can clearly say I have devoted a asston of time to this game. DLC seems cool but I guess I am pissed since I uncovered the entire world (YES EVERY FREAKING PIECE.. not with perk but with getting perk saving it and going back to my main game to get the Vats perk, then reload every now and again to see where a new location is) and now I can never have all those kills add to my level. Guess Ill start again sometime down the road WITH DLC and be a nice guy :P
That's fucking ridiculous.
I realyl don't care that the PS3 isn't getting this.
@ Goon
I DID send the chick in, people weren't really so pissed at whether or not you died, they were pissed that the game doesn't keep going
@ Bluemeep
Yeah, I considered that as a possible continuance as well, but what if you used the poison or whatever the hell it was that Eden gave you, wouldn't all the brotherhood be dead (I'm just assuming it worked as he/it said it did here, since I didn't actually do this myself)
awesome, awesome, awesome
