Fallout 3 Collector's Edition will make you hot and will force you to reserve it

Fallout 3 Collector's Edition will make you hot and will force you to reserve it photo
     PS3

If Tiff's recent preview didn't get you out to your local game shop to reserve Fallout 3, maybe this will. GameStop is listing a pretty packed "Collector's Edition" of the game, which is said to come with:

- Vault Boy Bobblehead: Enjoy your very own Vault Boy with this collector’s item direct from Vault-Tec.

- The Art of Fallout 3: This hardcover book features nearly 100 pages of never-before seen concept art and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists.

- The Making of Fallout 3: Get an exclusive, inside look at Bethesda Game Studios and the team behind the game with this special DVD.

- Vault-Tec Lunch Box: The entire package comes in a fully customized metal lunchbox.

All of this comes at $69.99 price point for PC, and $79.99 on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Bethesda, it seems, knows how to do a collector's edition right -- when Oblivion launched for the PC and Xbox 360, the collector's edition came with some pretty slick extras, including a replica coin, a world map, a sizable "pocket guide," and more.

When I went to Bethesda last year to get our first glimpse of Fallout 3, they gave us the Vault-Tec Lunch Box and Vault Boy Bobblehead, and believe me, it's definitely worth the extra $10. If history repeats itself, these collector's editions will be hard to come by once they're released; even if you're adamant when it comes to not reserving games (you're too cool, you're too cheap, you hate GameStop), you might want to give it some serious thought.

I had to get the collectors addition of Bioshock for Mr. Bubbles. Hopefully Vault Boy's thumb won't break off.

I had this thing reserved since November last year. Looks to me like I'll be going to Gamestop tomorrow to make it a reservation for the special edition. First GTAIV and now this. What next, special editions for Soul Calibur IV, Brutal Legend, and Force Unleashed? Those are the other games I have on reserve. Add a PS3 on June 12th and I'm going to be a busy. broke man this year.

I'm going to have to toy with the idea of preordering it. I never preorder. At the same time, I'm skeptical of the game (being a fan of the originals, and not enjoying Oblivion, but thought Morrowind was pretty awesome) so I also want to wait and find out if it's worth my money. The lunch box might be pretty sweet, and the bobblehead to a lesser degree, but those two items alone aren't worth $70 to me if the game sucks.
Necros's Avatar
Necros at 04/13/2008 03:53
Damn, that's a nice package, but I wasn't even sure about getting this game in the first place, since I knew Oblivion wasn't for me. Oh well, I might pick one of these up for the hell of it.

Still, even if we're getting more in these special editions, I miss the times when they were only $10 more.

Although for me personally that lunchbox needs to have some rocks smashed into it to give it a fallout feel. I mean a nice new shiny box in the fallout world? it doesn't fit.
I guess it would affect its resale value should i ever want to sell it but im not sure i could holy my head up high as i walk into work with a gleaming fallout lunchbox.
Mine will have dried mud plastered on it, bullet scorch marks, sellotape to keep it closed because ive smashed the hell into it.
Thats true fallout.

Not that i know if i can get the collectors edition :/
is it coming out in the UK for the PC?

Seventy bucks?! Man, I can't help but love the crappy dollar, that's less than the price of any normal new PC release, converted to norwegian money. Including shipping across the atlantic ocean, that is.

Guess that'll be one preorder from the US then, if you please.
