While it's by no means a classic, I have a certain fondness for Deadline Games' Total Overdose, a title that melded sandbox, GTA-style violence with a cartoony style and ridiculously over-the-top showmanship. It's with great joy then, that I hear tell of a brand new IP coming from Deadline, with the classy name of Faith and a .45.

Described as a "Bonnie and Clyde" style adventure, Faith and a .45 is to be set in the Great Depression era, certainly something you don't often see as a backdrop in videogames. The story revolves around a gunslinging pair who are out to stop the evil oilman that wants them dead.

Whether you liked Total Overdose or not, you have to give Deadline points for an original game premise. If the gameplay turns out to be as catchy as the name, Faith and a .45 could be one to watch in the future.

I just attempted to prove you wrong with some big game that was set during the Depression, but I came up totally empty. A creative setting in video games is a rare thing, and now I feel kind of tingly. I should apply some WWII games to calm myself down.

The game had me until the setting. Unless there is something I don't know about the Depression era that will make a good action game, then I'm not holding my breath on this being a great title. Unless the gameplay actually way better than TO.

While I am interested about the setting, I don't really care if it doesn't play well. They could have told us a bit more about the story, at least.

Haha, I saw this and instantly thought of Faith. Red hair and everything.

Sounds good to me. I liked Total Overdose, and the premise (and especially the setting) of this sounds intriguing. However, it'll likely be for the 360 and/or the PS3, neither of which I have. :(

There's no way the story is going to make any sense in context, but I don't think that's the point. If it ends up having half the originality they claim it will have then I'd certainly be interested in trying it out. I look forward to seeing this in action.

My interest is piqued. If I get to rob gas stations and banks ala Bonnie and Clyde, I'll be sold.

Can I build my own still and bootleg?

Or at least live out my Grapes of Wrath fantasies... mowing down people leaving the dustbowl with a hail of gunfire. Take that John Steinbeck

I love the name, its got a nice movie like ring to it. The setting could prove inteersting as some of the weapons are likely to be similar to Bioshock's (not tech wise, but era wise as in tommy guns and such.

I'll keep my radar on this one.

Does this have anything to do with the movie "Love and a .45"??

I haven't seen that movie in like 10 years but I remember it was pretty good and was about robbery and murder.

Sounds interesting enough to at least play a demo. I like the idea of setting it in the 30's. It's when the real Bonnie and Clyde roamed the land and if handled right can make an interesting back drop.

Hell I'd buy that game just cus of the name - I'm such a whore for the old .45 Peacemaker - I'll blame that on Ocelot from the MGS series.
Still it sounds like a great game

The original Mafia took place during the Depression. According to Wikipedia between 1930-1938, to be exact.

The console ports of the game sucked but the PC version was excellent.

@foredaddy. I totally thought that was emo Peter too. Creeped the hell out of me

But I'm really digging the redhead with freckles. She looks spunky. Here's hoping the character have some actual depth and that the voice actors, if any, have some talent as well.

Total Overdose is one of the most entertaining games I've ever played, in a cheesy, b-movie sort of way.

I wonder if the gameplay options will be enough to capture your typical action/fps gamer today. It's not like they'll be able to walk around with some ridiculous weapons that have become available in most current-day and future settings. Wonder what they'll do with the gameplay to make it fun throughout.

At least it'll be fun to wield a Tommy Gun, I hope.

Well, the problem is that Total Overdose was pretty ass. I mean, not terrible, but certainly "assy". The pseudo-sequel Chili Con Carnage was better because it was a PSP exclusive and better relegated to the handheld market (also, those of you who are excited about The Club's revolutionary gun-combo system should check out Chili Con Carnage - might be surprised at the similarity). Can this company really handle this sort of scope? Methinks we're going to see a generic shooter, but I hope otherwise.

Please, dear god, don't let it be Kane and Lynch with a chick.

I liked both Total Overdose and Chili Con Carnage, but was depressed that I was one of the few people to play either. Hopefully Deadline Games will get a bigger audience with this new title.
