Factor 5, Inc officially bites the dust photo

We got wind of a possible shutdown of developer Factor 5,, Inc a full five months ago, but of course we hoped that wasn't true. After all, no one wants to see a developer go out of business. Today the official website was updated with confirmation that the rumor is indeed true. See below for the final goodbye from Factor 5 GmbH CEO Achim Moller:

We are sorry to announce the closure of the San Rafael-based Factor 5 Inc. studio, but the obstacles created by the sudden bankruptcy of Brash Entertainment for the continuation of operations have turned out too great to overcome in the current economic climate. 

Moller goes on the clarify that the Factor 5GmbH division (based in Germany) is fine and unrelated to this shutdown of the Factor 5 division based in San Rafael. Well, that's that. Destructoid would like to say we hope for the best for employees who lost their job in this and best of luck in the future.

They did Rogue Squadron 2 on the Gamecube, one of the most frustrating games I've ever played, but decent.

That actually kinda sucks. I know Lair sucked, but the Rogue Squadron games weren't too bad. Best of luck guys.

Oh wait. So there still IS some form of Factor 5?

Is it remotely possible GmbH has the rights to Rogue Squadron or that rumored Kid Icarus thing?

This is really sad... This means we wont ever get another Rogue Squadron or Turrican game. Also, almighty composer Chris Hulsbeck is deeply connected to this company.

HiddenAHB: They did the Rogue Squadron games.Which were some pretty good games. Granted the 3rd game's singleplayer might have been pretty bad it had a great co-op mode(which was just Rogue Squadron 2's campaign).

There were some real technical geniuses at this company, they did some amazing work with the N64 and GC... but yet another studio that bit the dust under the crazy financial burdens of modern games =/. Make one big mistake (PS3 exclusive + mediocre game) and you're screwed. Too bad there's no one around to save them like wih Free Radical.

I like Lair with the six-axis control, I haven't really tried the analog stick method. It is just rouge squadron with dragons albeit easier.
