Facebook and Twitter arriving on Xbox 360 'before Christmas' photo

When I found out that the Twitter and Facebook applications for Xbox 360 wouldn't be included in the upcoming August-bound dashboard update, I became admittedly sadder than any human being ought to be over such a silly thing.

Microsoft's James Halton was able to reassure us that the social networking functionality is still on the way, noting that autumn was the target release period. However, he did mention Facebook and Twitter would be available for Xbox 360 "before Christmas" at the latest.

For the time being, the newly added Netflix parties will have to suffice. For those of you who didn't get a "sneak peek" (or whatever Microsoft is calling it) of the new dashboard update, they are everything you would want them to be.

Still wondering how Facebook and Twitter will fit nicely with a video-game console.

Jesus, I hate twitter. No one gives a fuck. If you have something important to say to someone, send them an email. If you have something important to say to no one in particular, put it on your blog. Why a service that only allows you single posts of 120 characters has become popular is beyond me. I blame 14 year old girls.

Would the update include the ability to upload proof of achievements directly to Facebook as mentioned a few months ago? If so then I'm very much excited for this

Seriously, who cares about this? Are you really gonna stop playing a game just to write some pointless twatter post? "omg the cake is a lie lol"

I'm sure none of us are sadder about this than good ole Michi.

Well, at least you won't be typing in really long messages with the agonizingly-slow on-screen keyboard (unless you have the chatpad attachment), since Twitter limits you to updates of 140 characters or less.

Phantom Spaceman: It's not something I would just turn a 360 on for. But if I was just messing around the dashboard I'd probably just take a quick look at them.

i still dont get the point of twitter. its stupid. if you really need to constantly tell everyone what you're doing, facebook will let you do the same thing.

The only things I want the dash update to do is make avatars optional, and add a 'feature' where I don't have to select my storage device every single time I play a game. I have never had a memory card or anything other than the hd the system came with, yet every damn time I play a game I have to select a storage device. Or maybe a feature that would make the system stop having E74 errors. That would be nice.

Facebook and twitter are just the latest social fab that's going around and will be replaced with something else in a year or two.

Twitter is for people that don't have ANY patience at all. A minute you say? FUCK YOU, I need my fix NOW.

What's Twitter? Only joking, I'm sick to the back teeth of constantly hearing about the fucking thing on just about any website that is tech related. I'm sure it's handy for journalists, marketing folks and the terminally insecure to keep up to date, release PR stuff and tell everyone how much their day sucks respectively. Here's the thing though - most normal people don't give a good god damn about it. I'm sure in a year's time it will have lost a lot of the appeal and all that time and money spent on integrating it into everything from mobile phones to calculators will have been wasted.

Facebook is at least actually useful for those so inclined.

I can't believe development time has been put up into this instead of something useful... a browser, or anything else for that matter... but... facebook, twitter?... f*ck that sh*t. And f*ck you MS for this piece of crap.

Unfortunately, seeing how 90% of the population are idiots, i can truly see this thing being a success for MS.
