Fable Pub Games comes to XBLA next week for 800 MS Points, free with pre-order photo

If you thought Microsoft were going to stop with Bionic Commando Rearmed on Xbox LIVE Arcade next week, you're sadly mistaken. They've announced that they will also be dropping Fable II Pub Games on XBLA for 800 Microsoft points.

Fable II Pub Games is exactly what it sounds like -- a bunch of casino-style pub games that will allow players to start earning money that can be used when Fable II is released this October. Games include "Fortune's Tower," "Keystone," and "Spinnerbox."

If you're not up for spending 800 MS Points on Fable II Pub Games, simply pre-order the game at select retailers to receive a free download code. I was able to pick one up at my local GameStop yesterday, but the code won't be valid until next week.

So for those looking forward to Fable II, are you so adamantly against pre-orders that you'll spend 800 MS Points on Fable II Pub Games instead? Because that's just silly.

I rarely pre-order games these days, but I'm totally grabbing a Fable II preorder after work today. I hope others take note; this is how to get people to preorder your game.

Agreed. This is definitely an incentive that I'm finding hard to pass up. I thought the first Fable was nifty, but incredibly short... but damn, I'm finding it hard to pass on a code for free Pub Games.

Can you preorder then cancel once you have the code?

@matt247:

Depends where you pre-order. Most GameStops won't give you any hassle. Plus, it's five dollars, which is half price of the XBLA game. Even if you never want back to purchase the game, it's a deal.

you can also preorder on amazon and get the code emailed to you August 15th. i'm seriously thinking of going that route. my only problem is: are these pub games any good? anyone at dtoid play them yet?

@kawitchate: I've played them. Two of the three of them are good. Fortune's Tower is an interesting take on pyramid solitaire, and Keystone is great if you like roulette (which I do). Spinnerbox, as far as I can tell, is just "wager some money, and sometimes you'll win some back." It's like slot machines, which isn't particularly fun in my opinion.

Having been burned on Fable I after buying it sight-unseen and being extremely let down, I'm adamantly against giving Lionhead any more of my money until I get some reliable reviews on their future endeavors.

We'll have videos of tutorials for the three games the morning they game hits XBLA. So if you're on the fence, maybe they will help convince you (or the other way around).

@Matt

I can't imagine this game is really worth the hassle. Plus you'd likely burn more than the $5 in gas pulling a stunt like that anyway.

Anyways, I thought about this and ultimately decided I would rather start with a clean slate in Fable 2. Why alter the game experience before I even have the game? Still picking up Fable 2 shortly after release for sure though.

This basically makes fable 2 a 1200 achievement point game. By price anyways seeing as how it wont really cost anything to buy with a pre-order. Maybe the money earned will really set you back and Ol' Peter is building up more expectations that will not come to fruition.
