Fable 2 players hate on co-op, developer offers them handbags photo

You have to love game company community forums. When their users get pissed, you soon know about it. I've not played Fable 2 yet (it's not out in the UK until Friday) but over on the Lionhead forums, people are currently bouncing their angry ballbags over the co-op in Peter Molyneux's latest opus, claiming it to be buggy and maligned by a poor camera, as well as forcing players to become mere "henchmen" instead of their own heroes.

It seems that a fair few Fable 2 players are highly disappointed by the multiplayer option, labeling it "watered down crap" and complaining that you cannot be your own character. It all sounds like a big let-down, which is a shame considering multiplayer was a huge selling point for me.

Of course, a member of the game's dev team did little to soothe angry hearts. Clearly not wanting to smoke a peace pipe or make amends, team member "Woody" decided to respond with the question: "Handbag, anyone?" He of course offered a premium selection of handbags (pictured above) for the angry gamers to choose from.

Yeah ... that didn't go down too well. If you'd like to watch to rest of the train wreck, by all means grab some popcorn and beware -- some panties are getting wound so tightly over there that they might snap off and hit you in the eye!

[Thanks, Carlos]

Hand bags?

Probably because all the people wining are being little girly boys!

I actually have nothing to say really, what a stupid way to try and fix something...

Doctor: Mam I forgot to give your son a shot before the operation he died....
Mam: OMG, my Son *sobs*

Eh, both sides are idiots. One side for sucking on the wee wee of Lionhead, and other that's being butt hurt. Yeah it's retarded that co-op doesn't work the way it should, but I'm going to play the game for the single player experience.

This is funny. That's the kind of response I would give them. I don't buy games for multiplayer, mainly because I fucking hate people, 90% of them are mongoloid assholes. If the game isn't good enough by itself then forget it.

I'd like to know how they came up with handbags. I think they took those studies of women playing video games a bit too seriously.

But uhm, there are only camera issues during the couch co-op, and online money, experience, and gear transfer to your character. I don't understand.

I'm more irritated that the Fable II flash game where you got free items isn't working properly. I can't click "submit" at the age gate, so I can't get the five free in-game items, apparently two of which are needed (in addition to some I unlocked in Pub Games) to get some item collection achievement.

But yeah, whining and all...what's up with that?

This sounds like it only applies to co-op on the same Xbox instead of online. Can anyone confirm?

I also thought that as an artistic move, you being a henchman to your mate's hero, it's great. It really fits in with the Fable universe.

I honestly think people have a right to whine considering Peter Molyneux claimed there would be a large co-op experience. Well, and that co-op would be one of the games MAIN focuses. Sure, it doesn't RUIN the game, I mean it's cool there's any sort of multiplayer at all. But Molyneux sounds like he ran at the mouth a bit too much, AGAIN. So it gave a ton of people false assumptions and hope. I purchased the game and I haven't played the original, so I really don't know what I'm getting myself into. I figured the worst thing that can happen is I don't like it and I sell it and just play something else. Though, I'll admit I thought the idea of playing co-op with your personal character would of really been cool and I'm sure it would of attracted a larger audience. So misleading people in the manner they did is extremely lame in my opinion.

FALLOUT 3 ON THIS DAY NEXT WEEK!

@AngelsDontBurn

I don't mean to seem butthurt, but I think I'm going to.

The co-op is functional as a multiplayer component, the only problem people are having with it is not being able to see their avatars. In the world of Albion, it's an amazing design decision in that it keeps you from feeling like the center of show and forces you to take the backseat. You're not the hero anymore, you're just; you know, hanging out.

And again, the co-op is completely functional (as far as I can tell), so it's not as if it's a watered-down piece of crap.

I'd also like to add that Fable 1 is my favorite 3D game of all time, so my opinion is invalid.

Local co-op allowed a hendman to be created. I knew that.

on Live co-op was you jumpinginto someone else's world, where you're not the hero. I knew that.

I'm confused by this. Do we see our character as it is locally? I would rather be able to see whatever is on the other players screen than them seeing a henchman and me my own character.

I've also seen people claim both that only exp, renown and gold can be taken back with you, and others that items can too. Which is it?

All I want to know is if the co-op allows both players to progress through the game together, or being the 'henchman' means you don't progress the same while in someone else's game. Which would be poo.

You see the other players character, and you become a henchman, if you are in a game hosted by them.

Molyneux has noted that its about jumping into someone else's world. So the real affect is you join your friend in their world, and experience their world at their hip. The guys you killed in your game may not have been killed in your friend's game.

Dunno what you get to take back though.

I've been enjoying Fable 2 much more than I anticipated so far. Then my roommate jumped in and we played some local co-op. The fun vanished.

It's not worth even trying. Stick to online co-op...if it's any better.

I just finished reading all the responses in that LH thread. The vast majority of them are incapable of putting together a logical assessment of the feature and giving a clear picture of how it works so I've had to piece it together myself, and could possibly be wrong about some things:

-You do not get to take your gear with you

-You do not get to take anything back with you except your small portion of gold and exp

-Your generic henchman does keep all your skills

Overall I think the co-op is very disappointing, but as I said before I don't buy games for multiplayer, it's irritating. And I'm hearing mixed things about the length of the game, I'm hearing it takes 10-15hrs to complete, or it takes 30+ to complete. If it's the former I am not going to waste my money on it and I'm going to see to it that none of my friends waste their money on it either.

if you're a henchman, do you still gain experience, gold, items and quests?

Ok the whole "have to stay on the same screen" is a little pissy, I mean Crackdown managed to have both of you on opposite sides of the city, and it ran reasonably well too.

Who the fuck cares? I'd rather play Fable 2 for the single player, honestly.

Although I do sort of understand how much it would suck not to be able to flaunt your character. I wouldn't throw a hissy fit over it, though. Just enjoy the fact the game has it. Not many console RPGs do unless they're MMOs.

Big surprise, Lionhead fails to deliver on their promises. At least the single-player mode works. The real question is, since the multiplayer is super weak now, are the special armor and extra dungeon really worth it? I was going to exchange my regular edition for the special one, but since the armor isn't persistent, what is the point? Sure, the extra dungeon would be nice, but the master chief armor would really be for show, imo. Hrmm...

I was surprised to see that you can't go in with your own hero. I don't see why you would even want to go in otherwise.

All in all, I'm so far satisfied with the game. It's smooth. And tons to do.

I did hear that there may be a patch to allow you to bring your characters in your friend's worlds.
