Fable 2 isn't possible on the PS3? photo

Oh, Peter.

Yep, it seems that our beloved Mr. Molyneux has attended the Denis Dyack school of pre-release hype. It teaches you to say as much crazy stuff as possible, every single day, until your game is released. This time our intrepid designer is talking about why Fable 2 wouldn't work so well with the PlayStation 3.

I um and ah because, OK, it's a quite sophisticated piece of tech. These days I don't get involved so much with shaders and the actual 3D design any more, the actual programming. It looks very complex. The 360 and the PS3 technically seem neck and neck. Sometimes I look at a title on the 360 it looks fantastic, sometimes I look at a title on PS3 and it looks fantastic. I can't see a difference.

What I would say, and this is not just me being the good company man, I'd say the thing I love about the 360 more than anything is nothing to do with the hardware, it's all to do with LIVE. LIVE is still underexploited for a game mechanic. Some of the stuff in Fable II we're doing with co-op is only possible because of the way that LIVE is structured. I love playing around with that stuff as a designer. Whereas PS3 doesn't seem to be quite so mature on that side. They haven't got quite the same infrastructure and service but, you know, yeah, I'd love to get games on every platform.

Peter Molyneux calls the PS3 a "worthless piece of sh*t" CONFIRMED!

Seriously though, do you agree with Peter's assertion that Xbox Live is what makes Fable 2 possible? Would you contest that the PlayStation Network is robust enough to support the game's online elements? After all, with Resistance 2 and MAG promising the kind of multiplayer experiences that Xbox Live is yet to touch, I'd say that the PSN can more than easily handle 2-player co-op.

wow yeah clearly PSN can't handle 2 player coop...even though there are plenty of online games...wait that doesn't make any sense at all.

Experience has nothing to do with the ability to handle online coop which if you would read up on Resistance 2's 8 player coop would probably make you STFU.

Peter, call me when you get 64 player DM and 8 player co-op.

I have read up on Resistance 2's co-op, thanks. However, Molyneux sure as hell would know more about Xbox Live and PSN's framework than either you or I, and you'd be a fool to think otherwise. That said, this is Peter Molyneux, he of the exaggeration, so I do take it with a grain of salt.

And yes, experience has everything to do with it. When you've been maintaining and operating an online service successfully for a number of years, you will always have the advantage over a company that only just started their online service in the past year or two. I'm not saying the differences are great, but there is likely to be an advantage there.

Also, Fable 2 is an open-world RPG, which is entirely different from an FPS like Resistance 2. It should be a radically different beast to work with.

This guy really should shut the fuck up. There's nothing in his game that couldn't be done using fucking Wii friend codes, and entering all of those for every one of your buddies would probably be more entertaining than playing fable 2.

just a note for the people who think LBP could run on a 360... apparently its because only the blu-ray can hold enough data the game needs. it has nothin to do with the console

*dont shoot the messenger!

@Everyone who is flaming on the 360 fans and lionhead studios
The fact is, its absolutely NOTHING, NADA, NOUT, NOT A LIL BIT, to do with the systems, its because lionhead has a contract with Microsoft(which makes me happy ^^) which means it CANT come out on the PS3 or the Wii because that would cause molyneux to be sued under the rights of the contract, so anyone sayin shit like oh PS3 is better online so why wont it work(It actually isnt) stfu and GTFO until you learn some shit!
P.S
too all those flamers about to flame me like a house on fire, your only doing it because you know im right in every aspect of the argument, especially when i say Xbox 360 is a better system and always will be, i wouldnt play PS3 if wum1 baught it for me!
