If a game manual is in black & white or is only 1-3 pages long, the game should be five to ten dollars cheaper. Just saying. Oh, and I also hate those shitty eco-boxes that have more holes in them than there is an actual case. Publishers need to fucking stop cutting corners when I'm still paying full price.

Better then the Alice MR one. It was the same way but in B&W. Real shame imo as we're still paying the same amount of money for less. Not a huge deal but I remember manuals in the good old days.

damn...I thought for a second that someone, somewhere high up the publisher chain was actually going to sacrifice a few pennies and have a worthwhile manual.should have known better. its only a matter of time before everything manual related is either on disc, or they have a link available to look up the info on the internet...at least nintendo(1st party at least) still has some sizeable manuals,even if you dont count the 2/3 of the pages that are in other languages

I hate how flimsy video game cases feel these days. I want my games to feel like 60 dollars worth of content.
May just be me, but a manual for me is as important as a chapter select sheet in a DVD case... um, great that it's there, but so long as the information is somewhere, either in the case or on the disc, who cares?
That reminds me when I bought Mortal Kombat 2011, and was shocked to find no game manuals at all. I thought my version didn't come with it, but nope it just wasn't there. It was truly a sad day for me.
I don't see the problem considering manuals for video games are pretty useless today considering everything is usually explained within the game itself with things like item information and tutorials. The only recent game I can think of that came out which may apparently have needed one was The Witcher 2.
SquareEnix and Nintendo still have glossy, full color manuals with lots of art. Atlus is also pretty good about it.
@wanderingpixel You took the words from my fingers. Yes, cases are so flimsy you'd think that someone stole something from the inside. Which actually they did.
For whatever reason, it seems like smaller publishers are much better about this sort of thing now. XSeed's games for example have consistently had some excellent-quality packaging and and great old-school informative full-color manuals. Little touches make it seem like they know their fanbase and want to treat them well.

So, you're all bitching because publishers are using less paper and helping the environment? I'm sure that isn't the reason they're doing it, exactly, but it is what's happening. Yes, it would be nice if the games cost less since manuals are almost non-existent, but that doesn't justify a $5-10 price drop, as APeacefulPanda so ignorantly suggested. Get the fuck over it, people. When's the last time any of you actually read a manual? Hell, I haven't read one since middle school. I remember a time when people would complain that there wasn't sufficient info in-game and they actually had to go find the manual. I guess gamers are always going to find something to bitch about. Usually when I see that the game manual is very thin and of poor quality,I can't help but feel like it's gonna be a shitty game. That's how I felt when I saw Epic Mickey's game manual.
My Brother just got home with a copy from work and as usual we had a quick look at the game to an initial impression, and fell about laughing for five minutes at the sheer lack of effort.
Not every game can be Metal gear solid style mini-mangas with tutorials but a SINGLE SHEET. It doesn't even have Staples, STAPLES...

I myself read the manual before I play a new game I bought, and I also know a surprising amount of people that also do. It's just sad that they're on the way out because manuals have always been part of the experience of buying a game. Also, I think a $5-10 price drop is perfectly reasonable. If game manuals aren't that expensive to produce, then why are publishers producing black & white pamphlets? Face it, game manuals are added towards the $60 price tag, so since they are going to be gone soon, the price should go down a bit. It won't happpen, but it should.

goddam it jim, i was ACTUALLY HOPING for a really awesome manual (the last half decent manual i've seen was for littlebigplanet, but i REALLY miss those themed ones, like the twisted metal: black manual). your sarcasm has utterly disappointed me.
I don't have a problem with F3AR and it's crap manual. I bought the game for $25 yesterday at Best Buy. Mortal Kombat too.

First and last good manuals I've seen in a long time were: Fallout: NV, MvC 3, and Radiant Historia. I loves me good manuals. First thing I go for with a new game. Have a shit or smoke, absorb the manual and then set in for adventure time! Mathmatical.
My fave manual was from Warcraft 2.

Is it wrong I like F3AR leet because I really like it alot, maybe I'm just a sucker for split screen... and the fun multiplayer modes. But multiple games have done this just to point out the obvious.
I miss those old Origins games, before EA went insane. "We create worlds" indeed. I remember thinking how cool it was to get a newspaper or something similar that set up background details like you got in the old school Wing Commander games or the Crusader games. Origins killed entire forests to publish those things, and I personally think that's fine. And those flimsy new cases that use less plastic? Those suck. If I'm dropping 60 bucks on a game, I wanna make damn sure I'm ruining the planet.

At least with Manuals it can be used several times. While I like the Color Manuals I would rather have the black and White manual than no manual at all.

I used to love busting out my Morrowind manual and planning character builds. However, I will say that was one of the few times I like/wanted a detailed manual.
Most modern games don't have manuals because the developers don't put enough substance and detail into the projects to warrant wasting an entire page of paper. Also, most complex PC games these days spawn communities of really clever folks who create self-contained Wikis jammed packed with information - sometimes even more than the developer would like.
Another fine point is that if the game in question is being marketed in the U.S., most kids over here can't read anyway...so it's a niche perk in the end ultimately.
