F.E.A.R. 2 has mechs, new trailer proves it photo

What’s the best recipe for doubling the action of a shooter sequel? Start with a base of large, vehicular robots. Mix in and attach chain guns and rocket launchers. Sprinkle in some creepy little girls. Wrap and then bake in an oven full of blood and carnage for several hours.

It’s a simple, but ingenious concoction that the guys behind F.E.A.R. 2 Project Origin have decided to make a reality. The trailer -- available after the break, but only if you’re 17 or older -- has the final product. It is called Environmental Powered Armor and to say that it will amplify the original game’s action is an understatement.

The video opens as if it wasn’t all about satiating a fundamental desire to destroy. In fact, it might tickle memories of Fallout 3’s introduction. A voice talks about change, a nuclear bomb flashes, and a busted up bus is shown. The difference being that it quickly shifts to mech combat.

I can at least give Monolith credit for at least trying something different, though how well a mech will mesh with the horror theme is still up in the air. It felt sort of odd fighting them in the first game. I think the demo will be a big factor as to whether I pick this up or not.

I always liked how FEAR tried to have both action and horror.

It made me wonder if the next thing I would encounter would be soldiers or teh little girl.

Mech looks cool, and nice to see we can pilot one. I disliked that in the first game, they were just enemies.

That could be pretty fun.

Yeah this game looks good, I read the preview for it in PTOM and it really caught my interest. How was the first FEAR? Is it worth a rental? I have a PS3 if that makes a difference.

I'd rather Fear be a more scary shooter than do the commando thing with some horror tacked on, I could never get into the original fear because of that.

I hope these mech scenes are not drawn out.

The graphics for the most part, look pretty good, but the Mech looks bad - probably because it's not quite finished yet, but they need to work more on the mech's look and animation.... looks like something out of the late 90's.
