I normally abide by the "if it's in the game, it's totally fair" way of thinking, but not when it comes to things of this nature. An exploit for Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer has been found, and it's looking like a major pain in the ass. If you thought the "Martyrdom" perk was annoying, you haven't seen anything yet.

Essentially, the glitch allows you to explode upon death using a launcher, with the most popular choice being the javelin. Since the javelin has a pretty sizable blast radius, you could potentially use the exploit to take out a couple of nearby players, and make a few new enemies along the way.

Whether you find this to be highly annoying, or just plain funny, it won't be around for much longer. Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling says a fix is being worked on right now, and that it'll be submitted to Sony and Microsoft "as fast as possible."

Similarly, the update for the PC version -- which doesn't need to go through cert -- will be going out as soon as it's in working condition. Also, getting caught abusing this will result in an Xbox LIVE suspension (thanks, Knivy).

You know what IW fix is don't you. They're just piping Yakety Sax into all matches to make them as entertaining as this.

Problem solved.

"getting caught abusing this will result in an Xbox LIVE suspension"

To be honest, I think that's a load of bullshit. People could easily accidentally use this and get banned for a single infraction. You know what XBL kiddies are like. People shouldn't be punished for the developer making an oversight.

Hell, I know a glitch in L4D2 that lets you skip 1/2 of the first level. Doesn't mean I should be punished for it, since it's how Valve made the level. However they are normally good with that sort of thing (L4D1 No Mercy 1 for example.)

Thing is, it's still nowhere near as annoying or game-breaking as the twin 1887 shotguns.

Jon B, dont be an idiot, there is no accidentally hitting this glitch, it has a pretty specific way of triggering and it is all bullshit. Developer oversights happen, and the patches are a great way to fix them. At the same time, when they can be as game breaking as this one, people should get suspended because it is OBVIOUSLY CHEATING. Not like theyre banning these kids for life dude. Stop trying to excuse it. It's less of a glitch and more of an exploit. If you dont think it is, then you havent played a game of domination lately.

Your L4D2 argument is irrelevant because it doesnt really fuck people's stats up. CoD can get pretty competitive and this really kills the actual fun of the game.

I say IW fixing this (along with the XBL server issues) as fast as possible is something that has to happen. Too many people abusing this. The exploit is a pain in the ass on Hardcore HQ as well.

I'll admit, I used it several times when it was first discovered a few days ago, but not only pull the class out when someone else on the other team is using it (a bit of individual Mutually Assured Destruction...). When I think about it though, using the class has helped me practice my knifing skills. I think about half the kills I've gotten with Javelindom have come from knifing.

Still, it's one of those rare glitches that's powerful, useful in almost every situation, and incredibly easy to pull off. As someone who is barely able to rocketjump in most shooters, I find it somewhat nice that once in a while, there's a glitch that's universal (in accessibility, fun, and in causing anger).

@Jon B:
Yeah, that sounds like horseshit to me (you could argue for bullshit though). I'm the last person to subscribe to the "if it's in the game, use it" field of thought. Not that I'm a scrub, I just don't want games to devolve into broken and unbalanced shitfests that really aren't fun for anyone. But if the dev put it in by accident, they have no right to punish you for using it. Unless you agreed to some sort of contract. Come to think of it, is that the case with Live or IWnet? Is there a clause somewhere that gives them the right to do this?

@Xzyliac:
It doesn't matter if it's an accident or not. All that matters is if the players have an agreement with MS or whoever that says they can be denied use of Live at what would basically amount to MS's whim, considering there's no real way to tell if the people using the glitch knew they were cheating (other than probability and common sense, but that doesn't count for shit matters like this).

Why would you punish someone for something you should have found in your own game? Why not just patch and forget? It just seems absurd that players who use the glitch are equal to cheaters. It's not like they went out and modded their console to use this; they're taking advantage of a developer mistake. Patch the damn thing and forget about it. Honestly, I use to BXR like crazy when Halo 2 was in it's hey day, but I was never banned. You shouldn't be banned because of a developer mistake, period.

@ Ace Flibble i totally agree. the double 1887 is much more game breaking than a little sploding personally. it's like how people treated martyrdom in the first game. a load of annoying dickery that makes for easy oneshots.

That won't ever be patched i guess though.

Why would they patch the 1887s? They work exactly as intended, and aren't game breaking in any way.

The distance they can kill from any AR can kill from, and the kill distance on the Spas is just a little bit shorter.

THIS is truly game breaking, especially on objective games.

TBH, I agree with banning the people that do it, for a day or two. Teach 'em a little lesson on sportsmanship. Yes, everyone can do it, but let's look at it this way: in a football game everyone is capable of facemasking and stomping on already tackled players, but it's not exactly sporting now is it? The people who are doing it are taking advantage of an oversight/code glitch, but, like many other things this game isn't balanced for *cough* more than 9v9 *cough*, the game isn't balanced for exploding dead guys.

Coming from someone who hasn't played MW2, this doesn't really seem all that bad except for really close-range maps. The explosion range is enough so that you can take anybody out with shotguns or the like, but with a good rifle this almost looks like a non-issue. Also, as a CS:S player, I can attest to this possibly happening by accident. Almost tossing a grenade and then deciding it wasn't a good idea before you toss happens more times than actually throwing grenades for me, and getting destroyed shortly after is common as well. Now that this has got such publicity, though, I doubt anyone would just stumble upon it.

It does? I'm sure some Russian somewhere has strapped a bomb to his chest and blew up, but I'm pretty sure not often enough to make any sense. They've never really needed to do that.. they've usually had something of an army.

Funny stuff. I'm never ahead of the curve enough to get up high enough in my class to do this, but I've got a better idea... Why not reset the levels of anyone caught doing this?

I'd say that's a hell of an incentive to keep people from doing it. Reset their stats and lock them out of the perk bonuses they unlocked when cheating. Xbox Live does that if they catch you scamming on your Gamerscore, do it here.

Oh, and block them from being able to hit Prestige.

It ain't cheating, ya'll need to calm the hell down. Anyone getting pissed over this: Seriously? I don't expect anything less from the online crowd, and neither should you people. Banning someone for a developer mistake is not the fault of the player, it's the developers fault for not finding it in the first place. Halo 2 players weren't banned for double-shooting or BXR, and neither should these dudes. IW should accept the blame for not catching this earlier and leave it be. Don't they have beta tests and game testers for this stuff?

Yeah, I BXR'd in Halo 2, and I don't regret it. Don't like it? Stop playing the game, or learn to adapt. You shouldn't expect anything less from online gamers. And it's not like they're going out of their way to cheat, by which I mean going out to buy a mod chip to give themselves an unbeatable advantage. This may be annoying, but any good player will be able to take them down, so at least you have the chance to best them. Modding gives you NO chance, and that's why this isn't cheating.

Been using it in Domination all day. Works really well on maps where B is in a small enclosed area like Quarry and Wasteland. Just sit in the corner and knife anyone that misses you. You'll usually get shot after one kill and take out 2+ guys with you.

I'm abusing it 'til they fix it. Reactions post-game are awesome.

This could easily be a mixture of both accident and purpose.

I start to throw my Semtex grenades and change my mind by pressing Y all the time. Sure, once they found out, they probably abuse it. But the first infraction may very well have been a complete accident.
